Cavemen (Paleo) Diet and the Band
Texasbandit replied to Cpt. Ahab's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my hubby was forced on a low fat/ very low sodium diet due to his congestive heart failure. We dont eat anything processed. My husband has a cheat day once every few weeks, but we cook almost everything from scratch. We dont eat chips or frozen food. Even canned soups. I make my own Soup, Pasta sauce, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, Desserts, etc. Its wonderful and has saved us so much money. The only thing we really buy is bread, but my hubby eats that. We buy fresh fruits, veggies, meats etc and cook. -
OMG! Gas pains are no joke...
Texasbandit replied to chucktodd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my gas pains were horrible but it lasted 5 0r 6 days. I ate gas x, took my liquid pain killer to dull the pain, i stretched my turso every house, I took deep breaths. Walking did just a little for me, but i did that too. I had a rotation of all of those. -
Hi, I am 7 days post op and I have a question regardling Starvation Mode. I know what it is and I've been told over and over again that you will not lose if you drop too many calories. Your body will go into starvation mode and not lose any weight. But, since we are on really limited diets post-op with a small number of calories, does that mean I'm in starvation mode? So i'm confused on how lap band patients can all be losing weight when they are basically in starvation mode. Or is starvation mode just a red herring? Or does the body just give up and start buring fat after a certain amount of time?? I'm confused. Help!!! Opinions needed.

Starvation Mode questions
Texasbandit replied to Texasbandit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I dont understand how healing stops weight loss?? Shouldnt it enhance weight loss or at least stimulate it? And if the body takes 6 weeks to heal then why are we encourgaged to start working out etc? I just started getting back to the gym, but I dont want to work out for the next month or so and no lose. This will seriously mess with my head. -

Today I can eat eggs. I'm beyond excited. I had oatmeal today, one envelop and I am so stuffed I can't believe it. Ugh!! I feel like I ate a whole plate of food. So just 2 eggs tonight. I've lost like half a pound. The scale isn't budging. I know, healing. I just don't know how healing stops weight loss but ok. -

You don't remember nothing. I had an iv and the gave me the anesthesia and a minute later I was out. When I woke up I was just laying there. My incision had dermabond so no bandages. I felt nausea and the nurses injected this stuff in my iv to stop it. I laid there and felt so sleepy but I was told to get up and walk. So the nurses helped me get up and walk to a chair. I was covered up and finally started to be more alert. About 45 minutes later my ride was there and I got dressed. I was given instructions then I went home. It was simple. My incision didn't hurt. Just the horrible horrible gas pains that lasted 5 days. Walking is suppose to help. -

I was banded 09/02/11 and was knocked out. They did stick a tube down my throat, but i dunno what type. I've had so many surgeries that is no big deal really. Once the happy meds kick in you will wake up in what seems like minutes, but you will look down and see that they have operated. I had bad gas pains and thats all. It was from the gas they use to inflate your stomach. -
Fat free/ Sugar free/ original????
Texasbandit replied to formykids2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There are tons of lite creamers. Da vinci does a whole host of flavors to add in your coffee. I'm not a coffee drinker so that's all I know. You can make your own sugar free desserts. I buy all my goodies on netrition.com. I buy tova low carb flour. Get some fresh fruit and mix with splenda, cinnamon, vanilla. Mix an egg, low carb flour, butter, splenda and vanilla. Put fresh fruit mix in pie plate and pour baking mix on top then bake. Bam! You have pie. -
Starvation Mode questions
Texasbandit replied to Texasbandit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I'm averaging 500 calories per day. Tonight once again not hungry and I ate chilli and sugar free jello. My tummy hurts though. Not gas just a rumbling and sour stomach. -

Would you get the band if you had a chance have a "do over"
Texasbandit replied to Jim1967's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not trying to be rude but if all I could eat was mushy foods then I would be headed back to my dr. I'm 12 days post op and have to force myself to eat, but I wasn't a big eater before the band. What does the gastric sleeve do differently? I've been told you can't eat certain things with that too. -

Is your band not working or is it you?
Texasbandit replied to YngGram's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know i'm a newbie, but this question came up over and over again in Low Carb forums. So this is not unique to lap banders. For me its how you look at food. In the past I saw food as something emotional and it surrounded my social events and my friends. I was on low carb for 2-3 years and people didnt know how I did it. I just had a mental sit down with myself. Is a donut really gonna make me that happy? Well no, its just food. I had a cheat day once a month, but I'm a gung ho person and suffer serious guilt if I failed. So yeah it depends on personality too. I've come to see food as sustainance. My husband is the opposite. He has to have different varieties and he loves fatty stuff and fried stuff. Being low carb actually reshaped my taste buds. I have a weakness for sugar, but I found ways to make healthy sweets. For me food is just food. Nothing more or less. I'm not that picky. It took a year for me to learn my triggers and to also open up to a different variety of foods. I really went on a food journey. Vegan food, indian, asian, fusion, etc. I like to cook. Once I tried other things hamburgers and pie wasnt cutting it anymore. So go on a food trip. Get healthy cook books and go from beginning to end. -
Why are people afraid to call their doctors
Texasbandit replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree. Or people saying that they are throwing up, cant keep anything down, not losing weight, or in a lot of pain and they are 3 weeks or more past their operation date. So it makes me think is there another side to this story? Maybe they are wanting validation for something the doctor has told them is a no-no. -
Would you get the band if you had a chance have a "do over"
Texasbandit replied to Jim1967's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank god I've never been to other sites but then again I'm not influenced by others. There is no way I would get anything snipped in my intestines or stomach in order to lose weight. Plus I want to have another baby. I needed something reversible, that's y I got lap band. I agree that some people have other food issues than just portions. They have food addictions or emotional eating. I cant imagine trying to battle those demons and lose weight. -
Would you get the band if you had a chance have a "do over"
Texasbandit replied to Jim1967's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm new but if anyone is complaining that all they can eat is ice cream and wonder y they haven't lost weight then I don't think research is needed to answer what her problem is. If you can eat ice cream and then make excuses as to y you can't eat other soft food alternatives then the problem was with in her. I've only know one other person with a lapband and she was a co worker s few years ago. It failed for her cause she overate all the time. I had no clue about lapband so I didn't say anything but knowing what I know now I can see y she failed. She didn't want to workout and she ate fast food all the time. It was smaller portions, but still same food. She didn't follow up with her surgeon either. She said she was embarrassed. -
Well I'm new to all this bit still a skeptic and hopeful at the same time. I lose weight so slowly and I kill myself in the gym everyweek just to lose one or 2 lbs every 3 weeks. It sucks. This time I'm hoping with the band I can lose weight more consistently.

I bumped up.. is that so wrong?
Texasbandit replied to StewsHunnyBunny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with ya Josh!!! I'm confused too. I feel that my dr. Plan is too fast. I have tried pudding and stuff but any large amount hurts going down. So I'll take is slower. -

Well my dr said mushies at day 8 so I've been eating chilli. I'm terrified of everything. Don't want to ear too much or too little. Don't want to eat too fast. Us newbies need a little help. I'm not hungry but just need flavor in my food. I can have thin oatmeal but I dint want the carbs so I'm back to jello.
