Sept 2011 bandsters
bromo replied to WannaBeSlimNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck, Chrissy. Hope your fill goes easy peasy. I have only been out once to eat since being banded until last night. I took a young couple I love to dinner at O'Charley's and it went great. Luckily I can eat red meat so I ordered filet mignon, medium rare, broccoli and it came with a side salad with lite ranch on the side. I did as I read about here and asked for a to go box before my meal arrived, so immediately upon the meal arriving, I put half of everything in the to go box. I probably won't eat anything out of it but the steak at home, but it worked for only having the right portion on my plate. O'charley's nutrition labels are online so I knew before I went what I would order. And on fitness pal they were all listed, including the salad with the lite ranch and it was so easy to add it for dinner using half a serving. I came in under 1000 calories for the day and was good on protein, carbs and fat, so I am thoroughly amped to eat out again. -
I love soup. But have not had any since coming off mushies a few weeks ago. I would think that homemade soup would be a good one as it is more solid than soup, at least mine is. It is not something I plan on eating on a regular basis, but I am not excluding anything really from my diet other than processed carbs and sugars. So an occasional bowl a soup is in my future.

Utterly Panicked...
bromo replied to Stacie from St. Louis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember having a "what have I done?" day or two shortly after surgery. It seems to be a fairly common occurance with bandsters. You really will start to feel better soon and in a couple of weeks will be feeling completely like yourself again. I am almost 6 weeks post op and other than the scars from the incisions and the weight loss (yay) I am back to the person I was before surgery. Actually, I take that back, I am feeling much better than I did prior to surgery. Walking to my upstairs apt no longer leaves me winded, even with a couple of bags of groceries! You, too, will soon be back to normal and the pains after surgery will just be a faint memory. Good luck to you. -
Did anyone get their gallbladder removed before surgery?
bromo replied to Princess Jaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine out about 10 years ago so a long time before surgery. I was up and fine in a day or two with that surgery. -
It really does work. Everything just wipes right off even if you fall asleep and forget to clean it that night. :embarrassment:

I am very happy with my weight loss. The ticker includes the weight lost on the preop diet which was 10 pounds. I am learning how to eat healthier and trying to get my calories in at the same time. It can be a challenge to follow the guidelines set out my surgeon's office and get in enough calories. Although I feel so much better, I am just happy to be losing weight without feeling like I am on a diet or being hungry all the time. I think the lower carb part of the diet helps with that as I don't crave the processed carbs anymore and get healthy ones from whole grains and fruit and veggies. Another thing that I think is helping my weight loss along is the fact that I had plication along with the lap band. It seems to really have made a difference as I have not experienced "bandster hell' and am not scheduled for a fill and am fine with it.

You are correct, Corrigan. Having just begun this journey of trying to eat healthy vs. the daily whopper and fries, I just am trying to make good choices, eat a fairly balanced diet that is lower in calories, fats and carbs and high in protein. Learning to eat properly and staying within the guidelines from my doctor's office is definitely a learning curve.

I was wondering where you were, Texasbandit. I am so sorry that things have worked out so badly for you. There has to be a reason somewhere as you are doing everything you need to do to lose the weight. Hopefully your PCP will find out what it is. I am glad that you have scheduled an appt with her. Just letting you know that some folks on here will miss seeing you around and I really hope that you can find something that works for you. Good Luck to you. Pam

Three meals a day does not work for everyone. I have 3 healthy meals and a healthy snack to try to get in my calories. Which I have a hard time sometimes getting enough calories. While you are on mushies, try not to worry too much about calories. Just eat what you can and be sure and try to get in your protein which helps with healing. Good luck.

The one cup means all the food at that meal should equal one cup, not a cup of each thing. And yes, any liquid counts so your protein shake will count towards your liquids. Find something that works for you with drinking the water. I find that if I drink it out of the half liter bottles, I do better than if I try to drink it out of a cup. I wash and refill my bottles with tap water for a bit so I am not being too wasteful with the plastic they come in. I can easily drink 4 of those a day just by sipping on them along all day and that gets in my 64 oz of water. Perhaps you can try different things til you can figure out what will work for you. Good luck to you.

Sept 2011 bandsters
bromo replied to WannaBeSlimNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am doing fine on the 600-800 calories a day. I don't feel deprived at all, I just try to eat as healthy as I can, as that is my main goal, to reclaim my health. I treat myself to things I like such as I found the Starbucks Frappaccino drinks in a Light version yesterday. So for breakfast I had one with a half scoop of Unjury protein powder and it was about the same as the shake I have most mornings. I have never been a breakfast person and so the shakes are pretty much my go to thing to get some protein in first thing in the morning. The taste of the Mocha Frappaccino made me happy happy. For lunch I had a Chicken wrap with light Miracle whip and brown mustard, lettuce and mild banana peppers. It makes a pretty large wrap and I am full and it tastes good. For dinner tonight I am either planning on grilled salmon with a veggie of choice or a serving of noodleless lasagna, which I can hardly hold a full serving of it, even though it is just about a cup and a half. I will still have a snack of some Oikos greek yogurt with honey or a sugar free fudgecicle. I don't feel deprived at all eating that for the day and I know I am losing weight and getting healthier for doing so. When I start getting more intense on the exercise by joining the Y, I will increase my calories to make up for some of them used with the exercise and when i reach goal I will increase them again to maintain. Each of our journeys are different and some take my road and others take another. All of us have the same goal to be healthier and slimmer. My road is working for me and I am happy with it. -
I Backed Out Of My Lap Band Surgery!
bromo replied to mztmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone has to make the decision that is right for themselves. I am more concerned with my health down the road if I remained as heavy as I was/am than I am with something happening to the band in a few years, so I made the right choice for me. Hope you can find a way to lose the weight you need to in a way that works for you. Good luck to you. -
I was never a fish eater either and I am just learning. I have been using lemon pepper and lemon juice on my tilapia and cook them in my little toaster oven on 350 for about 6 or 8 minutes. It depends on the thickness of the filet so test it with a fork and if it flakes it is done, if not, cook a little longer. I squeeze on some more lemon juice and found Kraft Fat Free Tartar Sauce which is low in Calories, Carbs and Fats and use that as my condiment. I am learning to enjoy the fish more all the time. I also have a little George Foreman Grill that I use for pork loin chops, filet mignon and such. I am going to try some salmon on it tonight or maybe tomorrow. Clean up is easy if I put a wet paper towel in it and close it after I am finished cooking.

Sept 2011 bandsters

Isn't it great to start feeling like your regular self again but better? We are all going to succeed with our lapbands and that is exciting in itself. Hurrah for passing up desserts and not feeling like we are on diets. Love it. So I am watching my BMI and so excited to see it get below 40. I am moving from Morbidly Obese to Severly Obese and that makes me happy. I am almost there according to the weight ticker, however this morning on the WiiFit it said my BMI was 40.11 and the weight was the exact same on the regular scale and the WiiFit scale. Do you think that there is a difference in the BMI calculator on each or is it due to rounding? I was delighted when my ticker said 40 even and a bit disappointed when the WiiFit said 40.11 Not enough disappointed to dampen my spirits with the great weight loss I have had so far, but it did make me wonder about the calculations. -
First day of mushy foods,Im starving so why am I scared to eat?
bromo replied to sheriah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, nothing is wrong. You are still swollen inside and it doesn't take but a few bites to fill you up at this stage. Enjoy the weightloss and feeling full with just a few bites of food. In a couple of weeks you will be able to eat more. But be sure and try to get in your protein still. Shakes are still the best way at this stage. -
I worked on my closet this morning and could button my smallest 22 jeans with ease where I could not 2 weeks ago. I put all the 3x tops in a bag for the Salvation Army today along with the size 24 pants!! Hurrah for working my way through my closet. Hopefully I will move to the size 20s on the other side in a couple of months. It feels sooooo good. NXVs are the best. Congratulations to all of us!!

bromo replied to sheriah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sheriah, I think you may be worrying unnecessarily. Just start slow with a few small bites from a baby spoon. You should be fine. We all have to go through this stage and do it. You can too. Just take your time and small small bites. You will probably be full on that and then remember to STOP as soon as you are satisfied in your stomach, not your head. -
So mad at my nutritionist!
bromo replied to Kellysue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
kellysue, glad to hear that you talked to the office and got it straightened out. I felt sure once they understood what you meant that everything will be fine. Good luck on the rest of your journey. -
Congrats on the weight loss even if it is hard to give up some of your best clothing items. Enjoy shopping in the regular sizes today.

Yes, what Pat's fan said. It is not forever and you can do it. Just keep telling yourself how good you are going to feel and look when you are thinner!

bromo replied to Kellysue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seems from your post that there may have been miscommunication between you and the nutritionist. Explain to her as you have to us what you meant by not following the diet. IF you need to, talk to the bariatric coordinator or the surgeon's nurse to get your point made. There is no reason for your surgery to be cancelled from what you posted. Good luck in getting it straightened out and on your surgery. -
I feel like I have food in my throat:(
bromo replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had severe allergy/sinus problems in the past sometimes having up to 6 infections a year and now take a Claritin everyday. I have gone a whole year without one sinus infection (knock on wood) and I know the proactive approach is what is working for me. Have you seen an ENT about your infection? A month is a long time to have one. Hope it gets better for you soon. -
Sept 2011 bandsters
bromo replied to WannaBeSlimNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you had a good night out eating Mexican, Jin. I ate a chicken quesadilla a week or so ago and was really happy it all went down well. We are moving on to really living a banded life. It is exciting to me. Actually now that I am eating better and much more healthy it seems like I am eating a lot just trying to get in 600-800 calories a day. Some days it seems like I have to eat way too much to get there. LOL So much for eating a box of Little Debbies and still being hungry. I think it is proof positive that eating all those carbs and sweets really do make you hungry for more. I don't even miss them now that I don't eat them. -
