    Sept 2011 bandsters

The start of our second month as bandsters begins today! Before long we will all be slim and healthy and seasoned bandsters. The time is going by so quickly for me, how about you? We made it through Halloween and on to the Thanksgiving holidays which means lots of family and food for many of us. I love that we are all here for each other and can support each other through the holidays to stay on track and learn a new way of enjoying the holiday season.

    How much and how often?

Are you drinking protein drinks? And taking your vitamins? If so, you should be getting in enough nourishment. Yes, after surgery our diets are pretty poor just trying to get some food down, but that is what the suppliments take care of for us. Sometimes it is hard to get it all in at this stage, but just give it your best shot. You definitely need more protein than what you had yesterday because protein definitely helps us to heal as well as giving us energy.

Can't help you with the fills, Peg, but can say CONGRATULATIONS!! on becoming a Grandma. I never understood it until mine came, but there is nothing in this world like grandchildren. I have 7 now, but the love just keeps growing! Have fun spoiling yours and shopping for him/her. They make the cutest things nowadays that grandmas just can't resist! Yay! for you and your daughter and SIL.

    Sept 2011 bandsters

this post is full of shouldn'ts. I had a busy moring with lots of errands to do by a certain time. I got up late and so ran out the door without any breakfast of any sort (1st shouldn't) and starting running my errands. Shortly after one I realized I was weak and had some hunger so I pulled through Taco Bell drive thru (2nd shouldn't) and when I thought about how I was going to have to eat in the car on the run to my last errand, I ordered off the "diet" fresca menu rather than getting the beans I knew I should have (3rd shouldn't). I carefully ate half the Fresca Bean Burrito while driving (4th shouldn't) and finally finished my errands and got home. As I went to enter my lunch into MFP, I was shocked at the amount of calories and carbs were in the "diet" burrito. The sign at TB did say low in fat, and they were right, it was low in fat but that "diet" burrito was 350 calories and 56 grams of carbs!! How does that equal "diet" in any way. Thank goodness I could only eat half. So I learned a lesson today. Never leave the house without some sort of Protein, order what you know you can eat safely, and take time to enjoy your lunch. lol
  8. Congratulations on your weight loss and new lease on life. Having battled gas before the lapband, I just don't really sweat it. It is such a small thing compared to the rest of what is right in my life now.
  9. Welcome to the banded life, Lisa. It is all worth it.
  10. Rachel, I too have picked up crocheting again. But due to my age and eyesight, I can only do it in the daytime. I agree that perhaps you should look into GA or find a mental health professional that specializes in addictions.

    MyFitnessPal

Use the custom setting. I set mine at 1000 calories and set my carbs and fats where I want them. The Protein is super high, but that is ok, all I look at is how much I have consumed that day and it helps to guide my eating. And yes, when I remember to close out my day, it gives me the message that I am undereating, but I just don't pay any attention to it. It, like everything else, is a tool for me to use to help me with my personal journey.

    I think my port popped

I would assume a surgeon would have a better grasp on this than most of us, so yes, it sounds like good advice as long as there is no fever, nausea, swelling or chills. If you are still anxious, call your surgeon's office tomorrow and talk to the nurse. And since you have an appointment on Tuesday, it sounds like perfect timing. Good Luck.

    my crack

LOL, yes, plumber's crack was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title. I visit off and on all day and night. I am a member of several message boards and this is always the first or second one I visit when I sit down and fire up the internet. it is a great site with lots of good information and a fantastic support system. I really like it here and have met some wonderful people through it. Very grateful it exists and it has helped me immensely with this lapband journey.

    For the millionth time people

Yes, you can post what you want here and by posting it, people will read it and comment on it. That is the way of message boarding. It is incumbent upon posters to acclimate themselves with a message board and the tone of the board and what is the general acceptable way of posting upon it. If you choose to post outside the norm of the board, then you have to expect replies that are not favorable to you. This board is about support and information and has a general tone of everyone being nice to others. It is not a place that accepts slams, flames, or trolling very well. There are plenty of places on the internet that does accept those and you can easily find them with a little bit of searching. When you choose to insert yourself into a community that is very nice and supportive with slams, flames and negativity, you can expect those who make up the community to respond. Perhaps this community is not a good fit for you. I can think of another WLS forum that is much more into bashing than this one. It is very easy to find. I do not think that anyone here is offering medical advice. Most posts in response to a serious problem gives personal experience and contains the words "contact your doctor" in some way, shape or form. I see in your profile that you have not yet had lapband surgery. I wish you good luck in your journey and hope that if and when you do have lapband surgery you will find support for questions you may have like others here.
  15. I would ask my doctor.
  16. Having watched the clips, I noticed the woman who was banded 6 years said the one who was banded six months had food that was for right after surgery. I was glad she said that, but don't know if it was caught by many. It bothered me just a bit that the food they showed could not possibly have the Proteins necessary for health. I think it is another of those "extreme just for the tv" type shows at this point.
  17. I agree that you should do what YOU want. There will always be naysayers and other people will always offer their unsolictited opinions, but in the end, they are just that, opinions, and should not affect your desires for yourself. Congrats on the weight loss and yes, although you do look great now, just think about how it will feel to be in what is considered normal bmi! That is my goal no matter what anyone says to me.
  18. I hope you soon find a PCP that will refer you. I had been working with mine to lose some weight but nothing was really working and when I mentioned lapband he was estatic that I was considering and made my referral that day. You definitely need a primary care that is supportive of you and your Quest to become healthier. Good luck.

    Sept 2011 bandsters

I am loving my band and plication right now!! Having been out all afternoon and not have anything to prepare for dinner ready, I stopped by my absolute favorite BBQ place brought home some pulled pork, collards and green tomatoes. In the past I could have finished the whole plate and still had room for dessert. The first bite was heaven as I haven't had any for months. I fixed my salad plate and it was full but less than half of what was in the take out box. And I couldn't eat it all!! This would never never ever have stopped me in the past, being full, but now I am super satisfied and still have another meal, or more, in the fridge. I couldn't be happier right now.
  20. My weight loss in 6 weeks since surgery has been 23 pounds and I am averaging 2 to 3 pounds the past couple of weeks. Although my ticker shows 33 lbs. that includes 10 pounds lost on the preop diet.
  21. I had the lapband with plication 6 weeks ago and am loving it. I believe it is the reason I have not gone through "bandster hell" and am hardly ever hungry. My portion sizes are around a cup and I am thoroughly satisfied with that amount. I am not scheduled for a fill at this time since I am losing at a fairly steady pace. I would recommend it to anyone considering it.

    1st NSV in a while!

Yay!! Great job Jenn. Yeah, I think it may be time for you to move out of Lane B and into the regular sized clothes stores. This is a great NSV. Ms. Lady, I am watching the clearance racks at stores now for 18, 16 and 14s. Just the other day at Stein Mart I got a cute spring/summer dress marked down from $68 to $3.95!!!! in a size 14. I have no doubt I will be out of my 22s and into a 14 by next spring/summer. It is the only way I can figure out how to clothe myself on my fixed income while moving through the sizes. I am trying to only buy a few things in each size and shopping only the clearance racks. I hope when I get to each size I won't be in them long enough to need much.

    Sept 2011 bandsters

I just have to post a "Thank You" to Texasbandit. Several times you posted about spaghetti squash and it got me curious. I finally broke down and bought one and cooked it for supper tonight. With 2 oz chopped grilled chicken and a 1/2 cup of some Prego roasted garlic and parmesan sauce over 1/2 cup of the spaghetti squash I found a new meal that I really really like and will be having often!! I can't believe I went 57 years and never tried this!! Thanks again.
  24. It is absolutely normal. If you have the time, read around the site, especially in this forum and you will find lots of posts about this. This is a time for healing, not weight loss. You are doing fine.
