    Sept 2011 bandsters

Thanks, Dawn. It is hard sometimes to follow the rules, but this is for life not a diet, so it is just pick yourself up and get back on track. I just wish my dressing wasn't so darn good. lol Christmas dinner here too, although not as extravagant as Thanksgiving. Much simpler. Glad to hear you are doing so much better, Texasbandit.

    Sept 2011 bandsters

I haven't done as well as I would like this past week, but back on track today. Sharilo, that is great that you had a 4 pound loss this week. You rock, girl!!
  3. I did good at the meal, but indulged in leftover dressing afterwards. Today is a new day for us all and the leftover dressing is going in the garbage.
  4. Ate off my salad plate although it had more on it than a normal day. I couldn't eat it all. Then waited a while and had a sliver of pecan pie. Later on I had a mimosa and it made me sick and I had to visit the bathroom but only dry heaved. I should have left that off as I was doing fine until then. Other than that, all was good.

    Daily Nutritional Goals

My daily intake is a goal of 1000 calories, more than 64 grams of protein and less than 60 grams of carbs. I have never heard of the requirement by hours.
  6. I plan on eating a bite or two of everything. I will still use my salad plate while everyone else uses their big old dinner plates. I have decided I not even attempt to keep up with my calories and carbs that day. This is a lifestyle change for me, not a diet, and so I will just have little portions but still enjoy the day with family and friends and the foods that only get prepared once a year.
  7. Up until this week I was losing 1.5 to 2. Gained a pound this week. A lot of the big weight losses seem to be while folks are still on the liquid portion of the healing diet. I know mine was. I am happy with a slow but steady loss.

    The Turkey Challenge

Pam Weight is 234.8, up a pound. sigh. Congrats to you Cindy, that is great.
  9. Was able to get into 2 pairs of my size 20 jeans today!! Others are still too small but it won't be long.
  10. I have my first complaint. The default font size when replying is way too small. And it has to be manually changed with each reply to make it larger as far as I can see. Could the default size be made larger for those of us who have a hard time reading the really small print?
  11. After raising a family of four children and cooking every night for nearly 30 years I became widowed and all my children grown. I moved into an apt by myself and stopped cooking for over a year. I ate out, mainly fast food, everyday. I gained probably 40 pounds in that year. Realizing that I could no longer do that and making the choice to eat more healthy foods, I started finding ways to cook for myself that required a minimal amount of time and energy including very little cleanup. I bought myself a little George Foreman grill which I probably use 4 nights a week, a toaster oven is used for the other 3. I use "pans" made from aluminum foil for the toaster oven so there is no cleanup on those nights. I prepare a veggie once every 2 or three nights and store it in the fridge for easy heat up or buy the individual size frozen ones to microwave. I no longer dread preparing dinner as it is quick and easy. It was not a hard habit to get into now that I think about it, although before I got the surgery I was dreading it a little.

    Nexium After Lap Band Surgery

I take Prilosec and my bariatric surgeon told me I could probably stop taking it. But I see my PCP in December for my semi annual checkup and decided to wait to talk to him about it. I think he put me on it due to the meds I take and I don't want to stop it and start getting heartburn. I get it still if I forget to take the Prilosec at least 30 minutes before taking the other meds. So unless I can come off of the one causing the heartburn, I guess I am stuck taking it.
  13. I am down 39 pounds (on a stuck plateau it seems) and had my hair cut a month or two before my surgery. When I run into someone that I haven't seen in a bit, they all comment on the haircut and how it slims down my face. LOL. I want to yell at them "It's not the haircut" but I don't, I just smile to myself and say "one day they will realize it is not the haircut". I think around 50 to 60 pounds is where it really starts to get noticed for a lot of people, though.

    Sept 2011 bandsters

Planning Thursday's big dinner and realizing that there are lots of things I always kept on hand in the past that I no longer have. I will be buying the smallest size of all these things so that I won't feel so bad throwing them away after the holidays are over. Brown sugar, regular mayo, shortening, and things like that I never use anymore, but my recipes are old and tried and true and I don't want to try to change them for this one meal.

    Approval After Lap Band Surgery??

I have medicare and was not really worried since I easily met the criteria. They approve after the fact, as corrigan said. Not a problem at all and only owed the doctor 72 cents more than we figured. lol
  20. Not sure, either. It always takes a little bit to get used to change.
  21. You are in the normal bmi range, not even overweight much less obese. This surgery is not preventative medical care and I cannot imagine any surgeon doing the surgery on you at your bmi. Why would you even consider going under the knife for a major surgical procedure to lose 20 pounds? And although many of us are able to come off meds and have better and healthier lives with some relief from medical problems, not all medical problems are cause by weight. This surgery is not a panacea for all things that are wrong with our bodies.
  22. You have to do what works for you. It is a personal choice whether to share or not. I have told most all my famiy, including extended, and all my friends. Lots of acquaintances know as well. I have had almost all supportive responses and those few that have started into a convo that seems to be against it get cut off at the beginning with "I know I made the best choice for me and would appreciate you keeping negative opinions to yourself." That has seemed to work and nipped those convos right in the bud. I could care less if they get mad at me for saying that to them. I could get mad for them saying something negative to me, but don't. I just don't want the negativity about one of the best things I have ever done for myself.

    Stupid scale!

I like to weigh daily to keep myself accountable. I also have one of those scales that vary depending on its mood. I finally got rid of it as it was just too frustrating and rely on my Wiifit scale now which is accurate although more of a hassle to weigh on first thing in the morning.

    A Tiny Thanksgiving Dilemma

glad you don't want to lie to him, as that is no way to start a relationship. I could not have gone anywhere on day 4, so you may or may not feel like going anyway. Good luck to you on your surgery and your new relationship.
  25. I did a stress test on a treadmill with something injected in my iv line to show up on the scan I had before and after. It was called a nuclear stress test on the paperwork. I had my ekg before the stress test began.
