What do you count? Calories/protein/carbs?
bromo replied to formykids2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah, everyone's journey is their own and what works for one does not necessarily work for another. I do track my calories, carbs, proteins and fats. I think later on down the road I will not be as obsessive about it, but as a new bandster this is what I need to do for me. I asked my nutrionist about the above and she gave me a set of guidelines that work for me right now in this phase of my weight loss. 1000 calories, 60g carbs, 65g protein, and 28g fat. I find it fairly easy to eat a variety of foods and be satisfied and stay within the guidelines. If I occasionally go over I am not worrying about it as I figure it all balances out in the end, as some days I am under. Good luck to you. -
Not feeling right after stomach bug
bromo replied to jenjaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you have been sick and having a hard time. Glad your doctor is seeing you today. You may very well be dehydrated and that is causing the severe weight loss. Having vomiting and diarheah can easily cause that. Especially if you have not been able to replinish your water loss. Hope you feel better soon. -
thanks for the idea for the chicken enchilada. I am eating mexican tomorrow with my son's family and wondered if beans were going to be it. I am transitioning from soft to regular foods and I think that will work just fine.

Just curious as to what a 3000 dollar professional fee is? I had to pay 300 dollars to cover the nutritionist, fitness and mental health professionals for a year. Other than that, I paid $220 to my surgeon and $1100 to the hospital which was my 20%. Keep pursuing this until someone gives you a real answer, not blaming someone else.

Feeling low energy on pre-op liquid diet
bromo replied to Poodlelover56's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get some Carnation no fat powdered milk and add it to your Instant breakfast. It will up your protein in them. You can also get some protein shots at GNC or walmart. They taste really nasty to me, but are a way to get more protein. I used them right after surgery and just held my nose while getting them down. I just used half at a time and they really helped upping the protein but with very little volume. -
I set my fitness pal to 1000 calories, 50 carbs and 28 fats so it has my proteins at some wildly high number. I usually eat around 700 calories a day and manage to stay on track with the carbs, fat and get in at least 65 g protein. Today I did 900 calories, less than 30 carbs, way over on my protein but also over on my fats. I had prepared some chicken thighs which my nutritionist suggested over breasts for ease of eating. Between that and my scrambled eggs my fats went too high, so won't do those two foods on the same day again. Anyway, I figure it all balances out in the end as long as I stay in the right calorie range and keep my eyes on the carbs. Some days if my calories drop for a few days in a row I start feeling weak and will intentionally eat something that has more calories. Like after 3 days of baked fish for dinner, I have been eating some noodleless lasagna with ground beef, part skim ricotta, fat free mozarella, spaghetti sauce and parmesan . It is a learning process and I am cooking more but I am enjoying the food more than mindless eating of a whopper and fries and afterward feeling bloated and tired. I am not getting hungry until 4 - 5 hours after eating and feel satiated when I finish my meals. So far so good. Also trying new to me foods is exciting. Harvarti cheese with dill, hummus with flatbread crisps and baked fish are just a few of the new things I have found that I am enjoying. I thought fish had to be catfish and fried, cheese on a sandwich had to be american slices or velveeta and never considered eating hummus and the flatbread crisps over potato chips and dip. Really am not missing the carbs and last weekend I went to a grandson's birthday party. There was chocolate cake which I used to love and I had absolutely no desire to eat any. That made me really happy. Sorry to be so long and rambling but I really am enjoying learning to eat healthy and it really is satisfing me which totally surprises me. Plus I am consistantly losing and feeling better with more energy.

Good luck to you. Although it seems like an eternity, soon you will be banded and on your way to a healthier you. Keep your eye on the prize. -
The gaining once starting solid foods seem to be quite common for many. Don't worry about it now even though you want to do so. This is the healing period. Soon the time will come for consistant weight loss. Good luck to you.

Sept 2011 bandsters
bromo replied to WannaBeSlimNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I purchased something called Flatout Flat Bread Light and the Flatbread crisps yesterday at Publix. I plan to use it with hummas. Yay! need2lose, I am eating closer to a cup at meals and am struggling to get in my calories each day. My weight loss continues right along so I am happy with it. Not having hunger between meals, just that dreaded head hunger in the late afternoon. -
UPDATED I need to complain to people who will understand
bromo replied to Rachel412's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think I would share my concerns with the surgeon. He needs to know what is going on in his office and if no one tells him then he doesn't know. Don't be afraid to address your problems with him. Just tell him as you told us. Good luck to you and I hope you get resolution soon. -

I didn't have a pain pump, but the IV morphine sure helped me feel better!

Another addict here. When I learned that I would have to give them up I began to systematically wean myself off them. Have a glass of water, then I could have one. I later increased it to two glasses before I could have one, then three. After a few weeks I was done completely. I haven't missed them really yet after surgery. I drink water and the sugar free hawaiian punch pouches in my water and so far that has satisfied me. I know I am saving money already not drinking a 12 pack od diet pepsi every day or two.

Sorry that your experience with your doctor has not been informative. I was inundated with info. Your diet seems more restrictive than many here, but each doctor seems to have their own post op plan. Hope that you do well.

I had to stay overnight due to the plication. I am glad I did so as I live alone and it was nice to have help that first night with getting up and such.

It could be the lactose causing the problem. I battle this problem every day and the shakes make it ten times worse. Try some lactaid to see if that helps and if it does you know it is the lactose causing the bathroom visits. I don't know if that it is what it is for you as I am not a medical professional, but I do know the lactaid helps me with this problem.

I am using the babybel cheese light as a snack when I just need "something". Fifty calories, low carb, high protein. It works for me.

Banded 9/22 and now I'm sick and in pain
bromo replied to JinTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jin, call your doctor. About the pill swallowing. I take numerous pills each day and have been swallowing them since day 2. My doctor told me that my stoma was about the size of a dime right now without fills and I could swallow any pill smaller than an m&m. So check with them and they will tell you what you can take to get some relief without worrying about doing something wrong. -
My doctor also said 6 months on the alcohol and I didn't ask about the sex since I am a widow who doesn't date.

A center of excellence is MUCH more than a business designation. The before and after care from them is far beyond what is offered at some places. My COE doctor was fantastic and so is all his office and the by extension the hospital to which he is attached. I could not ask for more information, better care or a more professional, experienced doctor than I got by going to my COE. Good luck to you.

I was told to not take my multi vitamin and calcium together but to allow several hours between them. Something to do with absorption, I don't remember exactly. -

Being banded 10/18,nervous. Anyone banded with encouraging advice?
bromo replied to sheriah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of encouraging advice all over the board. There is a section with success stories, before and after pictures and lots of threads talk about the surgery and the aftermath. I was excited and nervous for my surgery. It has been all good so far with the first week after surgery being a bit harder for me than some, it still wasn't unbearable. Nearly 3 weeks out and I am feeling like myself, losing weight, feeling MUCH better after the weight loss, having small non scale victories like smaller clothes and such. Just read around the site and you can find lots of inspiration and help. Good luck to you. -
Flintstone Vitamins Complete
bromo replied to craigmorganfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Flintstones used to be on my doctor's accepted list but no longer. I take Centrum chewable with Iron. They aren't too bad and I prefer them over the Bariatric advantage brand. I take Viactiv chewables for calcium. -
My doctor said 6 weeks for anything other than walking, treadmill, elipical, type stuff. After 6 weeks he said I could begin to do anything. Check with your doctor would be my suggestion.
