Leak Test Nastiness- Will This Help?
Lissa replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My leak test "stuff" didn't taste that bad. I was given a straw and a cup with blue liquid. Once I drank it, we waited half an hour for it to process through then my drain was removed. Not bad and no pain. -
How Long Do 'stalls' Last?
Lissa replied to amber1974's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
stalls last as long as they last. Start really looking for the NSVs. Are your clothes looser, do you have more stamina? It will break and you will continue to lose as long as you stay on plan. Good luck! -
There are other options, like mexico, or care credit/medical loans. The interest rates are high from what I understand but it's an option to look at.

Good luck to all of you! I know how nerve-wracking it can be to wait, but it will be SO worth it when you're the ones posting success pictures!!

Day 3: Swallowing Question
Lissa replied to Cobrargc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To prevent the air, try taking smaller drinks and letting it trickle down your throat instead of normal size drinks. Someone suggested using a spoon to drink with and said it really helped them with getting liquids in without air. Also, that uncomfortable feeling is probably your "full signal" right now. Mine was shoulder pain at your stage and I had a good bit of needless pain because I didn't recognize it for a few days. Good luck!! -
Jason, Great job of looking out for yourself! So many would have ignored that as random pain. You saved your own life!! There are two things about DVT's to remember. To prevent them, you must be active, and they can kill you in seconds. I assume you're self-injecting either Lovenox or Heparin. Be alert to any changes in your perception or ability to walk, talk, stand and do not hesitate to call for an ambulance if you or your roommates/partner notice any changes. I had a DVT 3 months before sleeve surgery and my doctor actually put me in the hospital for the critical first three days because I live alone. Once you are cleared for activity again, be sure you get at least 30 minutes of activity in per day (which works great with needing to increase exercise levels after surgery anyway) and be prepared to take warfarin or another blood thinner for at least 3 months, but probably more. I'm on month 9 of mine. Good luck!!

To Barf, Or Not To Barf?... That Is The Question.
Lissa replied to sabrina140's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only actually been sick once since surgery at six months out. I ate at Carrabas with friends. I grazed on seafood, a bite of Pasta, a tiny bite of the bread with olive oil and was doing okay. But, as we got up to leave, I drank a sip of my drink. By the time I got to the car, I had to leave my delicious dinner in the parking lot. It was just like burping it up instead of the more intense puking sensation I had before surgery, which I thought was weird too. I'm definitely glad to see that I'm not alone. It gives me hope that I'm not totally weird! -
Congratulations! That's an awesome feeling!

Paola, That's a wonderful NSV! Congrats to you!!

Stacey, You're doing SO well! Congrats on reaching Onederland! My weight fluctuates a pound or two, but has a steady downward trend, and that's what matters most! I'm working on getting to Onderland myself, but my short term goal is to reach 250. I can't wait until I hit Onederland either. I'm happy dancing for you this morning!

Rosy, I'm sorry that you're having such a difficult time. I'm also appalled that you call this the "NO" diet because you think everything is forbidden. NOTHING is forbidden, in my opinion. I still eat many of the same foods I ate pre-surgery, but I concentrate on eating Protein first and drinking enough Water daily. Somehow I missed that you were having difficulties until today. From your post above, it seems like you are making a great effort, but not getting the results you expected. Is that true? I have no idea of your starting weight or how much you have lost, but I do know that I have seen dramatic results in my health and my stamina from my workout/weight loss efforts...and I will be the first to tell you that, if you are truly working out for an hour a day, you are working out much harder than me!! I started at 352 and couldn't walk from my car to my front door without being out of breath. Now, at 265, I can walk over 3 miles (slowly) on the treadmill. I sweat, etc, but I can do it. I just had another sleep study, expecting to get rid of my CPAP machine, but my sleep apnea hasn't improved enough to remove that yet. I can choose to be upset or I can choose to accept it and be patient with myself and my body. Since I don't like stress, I've chosen the patient route. Favoredone said something yesterday that really hit home for me. She posted that she was learning to "submit to (the) journey". I think that says it all. This is a journey and we can either relax, follow the rules, and enjoy the ride, or we can stress about it all and make ourselves crazy while on the same trip. I am choosing to relax. I'm not attempting to minimize your experience, but, aside from having a surgeon with no bedside manner apparently, you seem to be losing well and you are able to work out, which is phenomenal. Those are wonderful things! For some reason, though, I'm thinking you had a leak or a complication? If so, then I understand why you're having a tough time right now. I hope things get better for you soon! ((Hugs))

I Have A Trip Scheduled 3 Wks After Surgery?
Lissa replied to starsleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't tired or nauseated at 3 weeks post op, but we've already established that I've had freakish energy boost since surgery!! You'll be fine as long as you do some pre-planning and take along protein shakes/powder, IMO. -
I would hope so! It is done that way on houses and cars.
-
Congrats! I'm amazed at how early you were posting!!
-
(((Pookey))) I don't think I understand, but here's a hug to hopefully help you deal with it all.

Rediscover, I looked up the Protein pills. They are ONE gram of protein per pill. I think I'll eat a mini babybel instead. Kim89, try drinking warm instead of cold drinks. I loved chicken and beef broth on Clear liquids.

Life Changing Muffins/cheesecake
Lissa replied to bellabbr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was gonna ask how well they keep. Since it's just me here, I'll be eating these for a few days. Can they be frozen do you think? -
Welcome to the loser's bench!! It gets better VERY fast from here!!

Yay! What a lovely post about the WLS team!!
-
Sorry. I had to look a different way to find your post! I didn't use any pain meds after the first night. My legs hurt worse than my tummy because I was using my legs instead of stomach muscles to get up and down. Good luck on your revision!!

Congrats on starting out on the sleeve journey!! Here's praying that it goes quickly for you!!
