  1. I was banded last week - 1/10/08 - and I am doing great - pain is not too bad - feels like when I had my daughter cesarean. Mushies aren't too bad - have had Soups, jello's, Protein shakes, oatmeal, applesauce, yogurt. my thing that is killing me is that my sweet tooth is going nuts.... is that possible? I am not hungry but I really want something sweet.... is this normal - or is there anything out there any of you can suggest? I am going to make some pudding with protien powder later.... maybe that will help. Thanks for your help! Helena Banded 1-10-08 Dr. Needleman, Columbus Ohio
  2. I have been lurking around for months now - am in the process for surgery - right now the paperwork has been sent to my insurance for approval and am waiting to hear back from them - anyway - I went to a class last night (Pre-Operative Dietary Counseling) which is required through the hospital - some of the things the dietician said freaked me out big time..... help me with these questtions..... There were 4 people in this class and the other 3 are all wanting to have gastric bypass surgery - so I am the odd man out - is portion size for the band the same as for bypass patients - I thought it was much much smaller than a normal portion - but not shot glass size - and that is what she was using as a reference..... she also said we would not be able to drink large amounts of Water or crystal light - we need to practice drinking a little amount, wait, then drink a little amount, wait, then drink a little more - is that true? thank you for helping me out - I really did think I was "well educated" about LapBand surgery but after last night I am not sure..... Thank you! Helena
  3. I have a tentitive month for my surgery and need to talk to my kids - my daughter is 6 1/2 and my son is almost 4 - we eat healthy foods already - but my portion sizes will change. Any advise will be appreciated from those with small children have done this. Thank you, Helena <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_10960--> <!-- THE POST -->

  6. I have a tentative surgery date and want to talk to my kids - daughter is 6 1/2 and son will be 4 in August. My question to all of you is how to talk to my children about this surgery. Don't know how to approach them - especially my daughter who is very smart and tall and skinny and is already aware of fat and skinny. We all eat very good - my kids eat a ton of things most kids won't touch.... so the eating healthy will not be a change. But portions will and the funky food the first 6 weeks will be different. any help from those of you who have had the surgery and have small children I would appreciate it. Thank you, Helena
  7. I got a letter today - and I am starting through the process - I am a tad excited. My appt with the dietitian and psychologist is in a few weeks. But I have a questions for all you who have gone before me.... I need to go through a 12 week Professionally-Supervised Weight Loss Program - supervised by a registered dietitian, PCP, nurse practitioner, or behavioral health counselor. Now the hospital that I am going to offers a program - but I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions on programs. also - I know from reading all of you have lost weight prior to surgery due to the diet programs they make you go through in preperation for the surgery - this is silly but what if you are "too" successful and you loose weight - can they say - see this is all you need to do...... thanks for your wisdom.... Helena
  8. ok - yet another dumb question from a newbie.... but I tried a search and came up with nothing.... after being banded - can you eat salads and raw veggies? :hungry: I told you it was a dumb question! Helena

    columbus ohio lapband surgeon?

Hi Mike - I just sent my paperwork in to OSU - I feel I have researched this To Death - good luck...
  10. have been "thinking" about weight loss surgery for years - made the very first step and sent in my paperwork. Scared and hopeful at the same time. I know there is no straight answer - but how long from time you sent paperwork in to actually having the surgery? My family (my mother - who has been overweight her entire life and has serious health issues at 61 and is a nurse and my brother who is also a nurse but has not one bit of fat on him) are not being very supportive - they don't think this is the answer. My husband is very supportive and he is the one that is going to be with me forever..... glad I found this site to read and read and read.... Helena
