  1. If it is something you REALLY want and want to commit to lifelong changes, then go for it!! I am 14 months post op and will be 62 next week. My only regret is that I didn't do this when I was younger. I had the bypass (which is a totally different story) but have NEVER regretted it. Good luck!
  2. Does anyone have any information on this place?? Their website looks great, but I am interested in personal experiences! Thanks.

    Dallas Texas Area Anyone?

I am in Plano and having bypass 7/16. Where are some good support groups?
  5. I am so glad I found this thread. I too am 60 with 85 lbs to lose. I have been jumping thru insurance hoops since December but finally have a date of May 7. I am looking forward to this life changing event!
  6. Does anyone have any experience with Dr Hodges ar Barker Bariatrics?
  7. I posted here previously singing Dr. Nick's praises. Those of you who are happy with the staff are you self pay?? I have insurance and it takes days (literally) to get a return phone call. Does cash talk faster ??? I am thinking of finding someone else because of this. All input is welcome!!
  8. I have used CPAP since 2006. I have severe claustrophobia so I have a piece that just covers my nose. No mask for me! If you have never used one just give yourself time to get used to it. You will be glad you did. I wake up knowing I had a good night's sleep. I don't worry about the sexy part as my hubby is on CPAP too. It is quite a sight in our room at night. I am still jumping thru insurance hoops so surgery won't happen until late March or April, but I am looking forward to no more CPAP. Hang in there!!

    Microsurgery Institute of Dallas

Thanks for the feedback.. I'm curious why you went there instead of the other places Dr. Nick goes to--was it financial.? Someone in hid office told me they charge a fraction of what insurance would pay for if you paid up front. Your thoughts????

    Microsurgery Institute of Dallas

Thanks. Dr. Nicholson is my surgeon but not yet scheduled due to insurance hoops. Is your surgery going to be there? If so, I will be interested to hear about your experiences there.
  12. I will be having surgery by Dr. Nick in April. Does anyone know anything about the Microsurgery Institute? He is now doing procedures there. It is down by UTSW but I haven't heard anything about it. Any comments?
  13. I have also given this much thought. I am still in the process of jumping through insurance hoops, but will have the surgery in April. Other than my hubby who is supportive, I will tell my adult children when I get the date. I have decided to tell only my sister who is a nurse and my supervisor to explain time off. Otherwise, my story is the one doctors recommend for weight loss...... Diet and exercise. It is nobody's business how or what I do. Let them surmise, I really don't care.
  14. I too will be having my surgery by Dr. Nick at the microsurgery institute. I have been looking for info also. I will be interested in what we can find out from others here. Good luck with your surgery. I will be scheduled in April.
  15. I have just gotten approval for ma surgery pending fulfilling requirements for Aetna. Anyone out there from north Dallas area having or had the sleeve? Would like to hear from some local patients. I will have surgery March or April with Dr Nick.

    Calling All Sixties!

I am bald to find this group. I am 60 and have started this process. Due to insurance requirements , I have to spend 90 days with dietitian. Hope to have surgery late March. Hope to get to know some of you!!
  17. My PCP recommended Dr. Nicholson as he gives you choices of procedures, not just one or two. Since there is no insurance check him out as he has "all inclusive prices" for cash pay patients, as I guess they all do. I have met with him and he is very nice and all of the staff I have had dealings with as well are also very nice, courteous, and helpful.

    Any Dallas Area Sleevers?

Hi! I live in Plano and just received insurance requirements, so will be spending 90 day with dietitian before having sleeve with Dr. Nicholson. Anyone out there have experiences (good or bad) with him and/or his staff? Where was your sleeve done? Anyone have it done at the Microsurgery Institute by UTSW? That is now where he also doing procedures and is supposed to be quite beneficial financially for the patient. Sorry for the long post but have so many things I would like to know as I prepare for this life change. Thanks for listening.
  19. I'm new here and looking for any comments, recommendations, etc. on physicians in Dallas. I've heard some good things about Dr. Jayseelam (sp?) What about others?
