Mommy Dearest - Continuing issues with mother
Scarlett replied to DynamoMini's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Michelle, Thanks for starting the thread. As I stated in the other thread I also have issues with my mother. A common thread I see is we where the good girls for our parents, always trying to get atta girl or a pat well done. I liken my relationship with my mother as like a relation with a friend that always brings you down. I stay away often. I love my mother and long so much to have a "Waltons" closeness but she is very high maintence and it is tiring. It does not matter what I do for her someone elses daughter did it better or bought more expensive one etc. The irony of all this is she is a wonderful person to everyone else. I am to much of a wimp to stand up to her!! -
Will try again...lost my long post!! I got all of my pre-op stuff out of the way and its good to go for Thursday at 10:30!! I am 90% ready but the 10% still shouts did you try everything else??? I so need to have this work for me and will make every last effort to do the correct thing. This comes from years of trying and failing other diets. I have thyroid disease so I have always had to fight for every pound. Good luck to everyone that has a coming date and I will check back later when I have crossed over to lap land.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Scarlett replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
:clap2: Love the Miss Scarlett...Gone with the Wind is my favorite movie. Count me in for the mom thread. I sometimes think I would like therapy for the bits she throws at me. There was never any physical abuse from her but looking back it was a control abuse. My mother is very petite and thin and she has a tall and heavy daughter and a very, very obese son so she is a very sad lady in the parenting (what do people think of me) department. LOL..see how quick I jumped in here? I have not told her about the surgery!! -

Michelle.. My mother sets me off to need sugar and carbs also:help: I would think at my age I would know better!! I have all of my pre op tests done and surgery is scheduled for Thursday at 10:30. I am 90% sure of this but the other % has me thinking of the what-ifs! What-if I tried harder or did something different. That 10% keeps making me feel like a failure. -

Debbie.. Gosh you wrote such a good post that is so me!! We are married 36 years also and my husband said the same thing. Almost word for word! He has never said anything about my weight but wants me to be healthy. He has seen me slow down with the pains in my joints. Thanks for the :clap2: it helps to know someone else is in my corner. I am also addicted to chocolate and sweets. I could never understand the "one square and I am satisfied comment" I want to kick them!! I am hoping the band helps me with my cravings, like when I was pregnant with my kids. Got sick on some food and stayed totally away from the enemy food. Got another class tomorrow and a meeting with the doc to pay and the 15th is right around the corner. -

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hey guys!! May I join your group of 50 youngsters? I will be banded the 15th. I am a complete ninny that keeps wishy washing about the whole thing. I keep reading supportive posts to keep myself up and then I know I am doing the right thing. Then my eyes wander to the throwing up and sliming and its panic stations again. I really have no choice in the matter, my arthris is slowing me down and I know the weight is not helping. I know when I get this 100 pound evil twin off my back my joints will thank me. -
Hey guys, Still here counting the days until the 15th!! Some days I am so good with my eating and others well....hence the reason for the band. My doctor must have seen it on my face that I have no will power so he told me he would not put me on a diet. LOL Joking aside,my day can not come any faster for me. Big thanks to the banders that are giving us blow-by-blows. It sure helps the nervous ninnys!! Momlambert...10 children!! Wowsa!! I lived in Sandy when we where first married. Lots of good memories. I saw a reflection in a store window today. I walk like a fat person. Funny how your mind plays tricks on you and makes you think you are not as big as others might think. I am ready for my mind to match the scale and the real thin and healthy person I know is hidden inside of me.

I got a call from the doctors office asking if I wanted to change my 15th date to next Wednesday? Heck yes I shouted!! I so want this to be over!! But we at home base can not change our plans at such a short notice. The 15th will be here before I know it and you never know the pound fairies might be back to take some more pounds of me.:heh: lol...lol
-
I hope my day goes as smooth as yours!! Good luck tomorrow for an even better day!!
-
Hi, I am having my surgery March 15 at the same place as you with Michael Thomas. As pointers appreciated to make my day smooth? I am a nervous ninny!!
-
Atta girl for a job well done!! You sound like you are doing well because you have a good attitude. I so agree with your earlier post...it is the waiting that is hard. I can handle pain and things now it is the unknown that freaks me out. On another note down 5 pound on my pre-someting diet!! Yippy-skippy.
-
WooooHoooo....is right.....you rock!! Kick those pounds to the curb!!
-
Annalee.. You are not alone because I also come up with reasons to not go through with it. My biggest fear is I will be in the small % that the band does not work or I will be a stupid and find ways to eat around the band!! I wish food did not have such a strong hold on me. My main reason for doing this....cutting the cord to get rid of the monkey on my back. (Weight loss would not be bad also):clap2:

Morning gals, I tend to stay away from the posts that are negative. I sooo need for this band to work and need to surround myself with positive. It sounds like the majority of people love their band and do not regret it. I am looking forward to finding the real me hidden under all of this outer shell. lol Tammy I liked your pictures and think it is a good idea. Will show your progress. Did you take any unclothed ones for yourself. I was thinking they would not lie for me. Good luck going out to surgery banders today. Looking for pointers!!

Tammy, Since I do not like milk does the protein power kill the taste of the milk? I am more then willing to try anything but the packages are so big and expensive wish they had sample stuff. Also you seem to me to have a L_O_T of will power because you are doing what you have been told.
-
Sue, I do not have a pre-op diet also. He just said do not gain any more weight!! I have gained 5 doing the nervous ninny thing but have taken 3 off and *WILL* have the rest off in time for the surgery. I do not know what I would do if I had to do a preop diet my will power is ______ dead! Russia in on my list to do before I die:) Hubby has been for business. I am originally from England and enjoy historic trips.
-
Tammy.. Wish I could say the protein shakes keep me full!! I think I am a muncher instead of a slurper:faint:I did put a couple of strawberries in a slimfast and whirled it in the blender and it seemed to improve the taste. Three pounds down of the five of the weight I was not supposed to gain. :help: I just keep repeating I know I can...I know I can!! I really admire the ladies that have their heads on straight to do the correct thing!!!

Hi March banders.. March is really filling up with dates. I still can not believe I am doing this, it is kinda scary!! On the other hand I keep thinking about all of the years that I have lost *trying* to get my weight under control to only get bigger. It will be like going back in time with no pain in my knees and ankles, being able to buy younger clothes and smaller shoes. I guess you can say my body will be the age my head still thinks it is!! lol
-
For the fellow lap banders that have many days under their belt do you find the band helps with binge eating??
-
Thanks for the answers!! That puts a big ole smile on my face !!
-
Tammy and Traci.. You guys are doing super!! I am still trying my best but I need to get better because our date is getting closer. Yikes!! The cheats are getting smaller but dang I am always hungry and I am not a nice person when I am hungry. lol A question...does any one know if the band helps with binge eating?
