Banded for 7 months and now too much restriction
igirls replied to karebare714's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a problem with a band that was too tight and slipped. I started to have problems in August of 08, but had corrective surgery to install a larger band in Feb. 09. It took that long to really have serious negative effects from not being able to eat well. The problems I wound up with were low potassium levels from the nausea and really bad constipation. Like emergency room bad. The point being, that some restriction problems that last a few weeks may not be an emergency. But you need to know yourself and how you feel and whether it's really bad. But you won't have a problem overnight. -
I had surgery two weeks ago to upsize my band and fix a bad slip. I had previously lost all my weight and since the surgery, only two weeks (!) I have gained 10 pounds. Granted, I was dehydrated and under weight actually, but I am freaking out until I can get a fill. I can't go to the gym yet either because it's been so soon after the surgery. No retriction after being way over restricted is a shock.

What kind of cheap food or meals you eat?

This isn't really a recipe, but a tip. As a stay at home Mom you can go to the store in the mornings. Go to the grocery store Monday morning. All the expensive meat items that they loaded up on are often now Manager's Specials. Most of us working Moms did our shopping on the weekend. When I'm off on a Monday I usually go. I can get several different packages of meat under $5.00. I like bone in chicken breasts and then marinate them during the day with lemon juice, garlic, olive oil salt and pepper. Then bake them for about an 1.25 hrs on 350. Even if I make more than we eat one night, they reheat great. -
I have to start the day with exercise. Somehow, if I do that, I'm compelled to keep it together for the rest of the day. You don't want to eat whatever because you put the effort into working out. And then if you veer a little, you still exercised and be a little forgiving. Exercise is supposed to help depression too.

Make sure you're getting enough protein. I eat badly or get hungry when I don't drink the protein shake I'm supposed to. Try drinking that first before you decide to eat or overeat.

Hi. I was banded on 1/23 and my surgery was at 9:30am. I stayed that night and was discharged by noon the next day. It was good to stay. The want to make sure you're not dehydrated (they check your output, let's just say). Also, there is a morphine pump for pain. They gave me intravenous antinausea medicine and kept an eye on blood pressure and temperature because of infection. I probably could have gone home but it was good to have someone really make sure you're ok before you leave. You need that time so that they can check up on you.
