I am a wife, mother of 3 and grandmother of 5. My grandkids call me GG (I say it's for georgeous grandmother but actually our last name starts with a "G") and I'm from NC. I am 61 years old and have struggled with weight most of my adult life. I am the same size as my mother was when she was alive. I did pretty well with my weight until I had my first child at 23 then with each chlld I did not get all the weight off and added a little more each time. You have to remember when I was growng up exercise consisted of those silly bands ladies put around their waist and the machine shook them! I did start dancing aerobics in my 30's and wish I had stayed with it. I look at pictures of me then and I thought I was fat then. I was not. I know my eating is emotional. I eat when it's hot or cold, rainey or Monday, if I'm happy or sad, bored or just cause it tastes so darn good! The other problem is I love to cook for my family. I am a 22 yr breast cancer survivor and have had a lot of surgeries over the years for various other things. Now I have lots of arthritis in my feet, knees and back problems that are getting pretty bad. (another thing like my Mom) I have lost 1 1/2" in height in the last 3 years from the arthritis, scoliosis and degerative disc disease but ironically it was because I am shorter now that I qualified for my insurance to pay for the surgery. One of the main reasons I am having this done is so my back might get better. There is no surgery option to help me. I pray if I loose 60-70 lbs it will help my back, feet and knees. I developed high blood pressure last winter and do not want to get all the things my parents had that were weight related so I am having this surgery to stop it once and for all. My loving hubby of 41 years is very supportive of the surgery and he has always been my best friend, nurse and cheerleader. I am truly blessed. I will tell people eventually of my surgery but untiI I loose enough weight and they start asking if I have lost weight and then ask how, I will keep it between my close friends and family members. I've been reaing a lot on these pages and really think I am well informed now because of your posts. Thanks for the help in this journey I'm getting ready to undertake.
