Pain under right rib area sharp shooting and aching
MelissaAnd replied to gonnagetthere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this too! It ended up being my gallbladder. So at 8 weeks post-op, my doctor took it out. He made me wait until 8 weeks so my tummy would be all healed. Let your doctor know right away so that they can check this. It is a fairly easy surgery to recovery from and I felt better almost immediately! -
I had the same problem. I couldn't drink my Protein shakes almost immediately after surgery. I still can't drink milk, eat yogurt or very much cheese. I also cannot stand mayo anymore. About 3 weeks after my sleeve, I developed gallstones and I thought that once my gall bladder came out at 8 weeks post-op that these things would improve. I am now 4 month out and still on the same road. Maybe in a month or so I will try again. The sleeve amazingly changes many things for all of us. I had a hard time on soft-foods too. There weren't many choices. Mushies does get better. Now I still avoid the foods mentioned above and also red meat as it doesn't sit too well on my tummy. From what I have learned, we are all different and some of us are able to introduce foods quicker than others. OH, let your doctor know. Maybe they can prescribe Nexium or Prilosec. It might help. It did help me some.

favorite chewable vitamins & supplement brands?
MelissaAnd replied to jennifer6791's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I didn't like any of the ones mentioned above. My husband uses Opti-Source, which isn't the most recommended, but they don't taste awful. I can't stomach those either. I am currently taking gummy One a Day's as it is all I can take. Someday, I hope to take the ones they recommend, which are called, Fushion. Until then, it's gummies for me! -
Scared of how bad I will feel after surgery
MelissaAnd replied to cass3057's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully, that is the case! Remember to walk as much as you can. It really is the trick to the healing process. I found out the hard way during a different surgery. Once I started walking after it, I felt so much better. I was determined to not go through what I did before so I started walking within 2 hours of being back in my room. The first time getting up was a bit tough as I was really groggy (not sure that's how you spell it). After that, I was good on my own. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you are as happy as I am with the results! It is truly amazing what this sleeve can do and how fast it changes your life for the better! -
How much time should I plan to take off of work?
MelissaAnd replied to cass3057's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say take 2 weeks. That way you have one week of your surgery and recovery from the anesthesia and then another week to get used to your new way of eating and living. That way, when you go back, you will have a clear head and lots of energy! -
Congrats! You will be so happy to join all of us on the loser's bench!! Keep us posted!!

Scared of how bad I will feel after surgery
MelissaAnd replied to cass3057's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, the first week went OK. I was just sore, not really in too much pain. I was a bit nauseous, but the doctor made sure that I received anti-nausea meds in my IV the first and second day. The day I did get out of the hospital, I slept for 3 hours solid and it was the best sleep ever! Be sure to walk often. It really helps with the discomfort. I had a routine the very first day that I put myself on and stuck to for the first month. I would drink my alloted liquids, walk a lap at the hospital (at home I walked the length of my house and back), then took a short nap for about 15 minutes. I did this every hour during the day and evening. Healing goes pretty quickly. Just remember to drink what you can of your Water and protien and walk often. You will do fine! I was also very nervous about the pain, but after it was done, I was relieved that it really wasn't much at all. -
Hey how long till PIZZA
MelissaAnd replied to BIG BOY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first attempt at eating pizza was at 2 months out. I had very thin crust and it was all meat with olives. I didn't eat all of the toppings or all of the slice. It took me about 2 hours of eating off and on to eat the whole slice. It was heaven! Now, I pretty much can eat a whole slice in about 30 minutes and most toppings I can "stomach" on most days! I try not to have pizza more than once or twice a month, but it is a nice treat once in awhile! -
Sleeved on Friday and still in the hospital
MelissaAnd replied to lyndynojo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh! How scary! I am glad that you are doing OK now. I still cannot drink the Protein drinks. I use food to get my protein now. In the beginning, I would sip the unjury chicken broth. It does get better in time. Even though you had complications, when you are healed you will be so happy that you did the surgery! I know I was and I had a couple of complications! All is good now, 4 months out! Hang in there and keep us posted!! -
How are you doing? I haven't been on for awhile and I was thinking about you and wondering if you are doing better. I have hit a major stall again! No weight-loss in almost 3 weeks. I even gained one pound! UGH! I have about 30 lbs to reach my goal, but at this rate, i will never get there!

How are you doing on your weightloss? I commented on one of your posts. I am a slow loser too! I am currently stuck at a loss of 56 lbs. I can't seem to get out of it! I am now 17 weeks post-op and I have about 35 lbs to go to reach my goal.

16 weeks and in a bad stall
MelissaAnd replied to MelissaAnd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are probably right! It just seems so odd to just halt my weight-loss after 16 weeks! I have hit stalls, but nothing like this. I am still not loosing and I am now at 17 weeks. Although, on a positive note, my friend said that I look like I am loosing even though the scale is lying to me. She always is so positive:)! Thanks for the post. I was beginning to feel frustrated and upset. Even though I am still not loosing, I am trying to think positive and stay upbeat! -
Good for you! I also just realized that I have hit the same BMI! It feels great, doesn't it?!!! Congrats on your success! Keep up the great work!!

What is up with therapist
MelissaAnd replied to gettingpissed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is obvious that your therapist needs therapy! I wouldn't go back to them. They should be providing you with support and guidance with your own choices. They shouldn't be telling you what their opinion is of you! Get as far away from them as possible! There are plenty of great therapists out there. That one is definetly not one for you! -

So Much Conflicting info
MelissaAnd replied to samantha209's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have pretty much the same story as everyone else. I am also a slow loser, but I am happy with where I am at this point. I do hit stalls in my weight-loss, but I keep doing what I know is best. It is usually because I need to switch things up a bit. I am currently in a stall, but I am OK with it because I know that it will stop and I will begin loosing again. Keep your chin up! We are all in the same boat, we just might be hitting some different bumps along the way! -

I think you are doing a great job and you look great! I think that I am a slow loser too! But you are right, the important thing is that you are loosing! What a great accomplishment! Pat yourself on the back and tell yourself that you are doing it! You look amazing:)! -
Still in pain after panic attack
MelissaAnd replied to bonbon85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
About 2 weeks after my surgery, I woke up at 4am with horrible abdominal pain that radiated to my right side and back. I found out a few days later that it was my gall bladder! After an ultrasound and blood work, I found out that my gall bladder was going bad, so to speak. I never had any problems with it before surgery and just all of a sudden, it went bad. Your problems sound similar to what I experienced. I know that I am late posting this as the last post was in January 2011, but I am wondering if you had your gall bladder taken out and if it helped you at all. Mine came out 3 weeks ago and I feel sooooo much better! -
How long does a stall usually last??
MelissaAnd replied to quints's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have hit 3 stalls now since i had surgery on Feb 28. They are very discouraging! So far, I haven't gained during my stalls, but just didn't loose any weight. However, I did loose inches during all 3 of my stalls. The best way I found to break the stalls is to increase my exercise a bit, take in a little more Protein, and make sure to drink all of my Water. It usually works! Hang in there and know that we all experience them! They seem to be part of the process!! -
IS THIS NORMAL???? ONLY 22 pounds lost in 4 months
MelissaAnd replied to mbridgeman27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are all loosing weight, but at different rates. I agree, you need to write down everything that you are taking in. I hit plateaus about every 6 weeks and I don't loose anything for a week. It is really hard to stay focused when I hit these stalls. I usually can kick off my weight loss again by increasing my exercise and increasing my protein by just a small amount. So far, it has worked, but I am also not loosing a huge amount. There are a lot of on-line resources that can help you track your intake. The most important thing is to not give up! This will work for you. Set small goals for yourself and celebrate your own success. Don't get caught up in to comparing your loss with anyone else. Keep your chin up and celebrate that you have lost weight! Re-evaluate your own goals and work towards those! Hang in there! You can do this! -
How exciting! I wish you great weight-loss success! We all can't wait for you to join us on the losers' bench! It's a great place to be!

I did have a hernia and they repaired it during my surgery. I did have acid reflux, but didn't know it until I had my surgery. I was put on Nexium and I am still on it. You need to go to another doctor, it seems. The information that your current doctor is giving you is not correct. My doctor encourages the sleeve over the bypass, regardless of acid reflux. Surgery changes your body's system and conditions that you have before may improve after. Seriously, you need to seek additional advice from another surgeon.

Today I went to my PCP and discussed a pain that I have been having in my right side. At first, when it started, I figured that I had pulled a muscle or something because it wasn't too bad. Although, it has gotten worse each day over the past week. So, now, he is worried that I am having gallbladder problems! Just what I need 4 weeks post-op! Had blood tests today and have an ultrasound tomorrow. I am so upset, but maybe this is part of my weight-loss stall?? I really don't want to have another surgery! However, everyone tells me it is pretty minor and you bounce back quick. Has anyone else had gallbladder issues?
