Dr. Aceves/sept. 29Th
MissMinnie replied to everlag's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
No my husband went with me but I could have done it alone. I flew from FL. My only suggestion would be to bring a snack of some kind so after your blood work is done you can eat something. I got a headache since I was up early traveling and you can't eat anything until ou have your test. Dr Aceves is really good and so are his entire team. I hope you have an unevevntful surgery and recovery like I did. I was very scared too but it is well worth it. -

Band Removal In Mexico
MissMinnie replied to kparadisek's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI, Yes, Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision 13 months ago at one time. He is in Mexicali and operates in a private hospital. He and his staff are great and they have done 100s of revisions. He isn't the cheapest but I was not looking for the cheapest I was looking for a great hospital and a great Dr. Good Luck to you. -
Just Returned From Mexicali... And Still Smiling!
MissMinnie replied to SmilinGal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
HI, Feel free to ask me anything, nothing is confidential. Dr Aceves usually does an epidural but I didn't have one. There were 2 others getting sleeved the same day and both of them did. You will be shocked at how much you talk to all of the Dr's before your surgery and when you talk with the Dr that gives the drugs for you in the operating room he will tell you what he exactly what and how he does everything. If I can remember correctly it is the afternoon before surgery. I was a nervous wreck and they really did make it as pain free and as comfortable as I could have ever been. Now that I think about it I was told I was going to have the epidural but never asked why I didn't get one. I do remember the Dr saying that he does it AFTER your asleep so you wouldn't feel it. Good Luck to you and if you need to talk to me PM me your phone number and I will call you. -

Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision about a year ago. Glad you did so wonderfully. Like you I had very little pain and couldn't believe it was so uneventful. I don't mind flying but was really surprised that it was only 3 days after surgery and I felt no pain on the flight and it was from San Diego to FL with a 3 hour layover in Dallas. Good Luck on your journey. -
Am I the only Nevada Sleever??
MissMinnie replied to Neoteric Verve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision about a year ago. Both he and Dr Campos did a great job and the hospital was so clean. Good Luck. We just moved to Henderson and after we get settled I will be looking for a support group. -

Anyone Self Pay For Lapband Who Is Trying To Get It Removed With Insurance?
MissMinnie replied to FXDF2008's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
HI, I self paid for my band and when it needed to be removed my insurance would not pay. After LOTS of investigation I went to Dr Aceves in Mexicali and it has been a great 11 months since my band is gone. I do have insurance it has a WLS exclusion and of course when I got the band I never thought it would need to be removed or all of the horrible problems with it. Good Luck and be careful. You might want to get the Fluid out of your band until you get it removed, you wouldn't want it to get worse. -
Newbie - 4 Years Post-Op Lap Band Considering Gastric Sleeve
MissMinnie replied to tjveggie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I'm 11 months out from my revision from band to sleeve. IMO it is night and day. Everyone is different but for me I drink a Protein shake every morning and can eat anything except if milk and sugar are combined. I can drink milk. I can eat something with sugar in it, just not together or I will be in the bathroom. During the first few months I was wondering if I made a mistake getting sleeved due to the small amount of food I could eat. Now I can still only eat 2 ozs if I eat solid protein first. This keeps me full for about 3-4 hours. I might be able to eat more but am really trying to learn to eat more times a day instead of more each time I eat. I also am working very hard to understand that I am NOT hungry. In the 11 months I think I have been actually hungry only a handful of times and really only 2 ozs of chicken and no more hunger. Others might have a different experience. Long story short, I really do love my sleeve and hopefully within the next 4 months I will be at goal. Good Luck with whatever you decide. -

HI, Sleeve done 8 months ago. Moving to Henderson in a couple of months. Currently in Maui. Anybody know if there is a support group there? Thanks -
Hi, I had my passport but my husband didn't. Nina told me the same thing only I think she also said to have proof of payment for the passport. So I had all you listed along with proof of submission and proof of payment. Had no trouble at all getting back across the boarder. Don't know when your surgery is but if you pay extra they will also RUSH the passport. Good Luck......Dr Aceves is wonderful and so is Dr Campos.

Switching to Dr Aceves - Help!
MissMinnie replied to NewLife2011's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Congratulations. Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision in Feb. 2011. Like you I only had a very short time after I decided. Mine went great and I hope yours goes as smoothly as mine did. Just a note: I was scared to death. When Dr Campos removed the fill in my band I was so scared and he said not to worry that they take great care of their patients. I don't know if it made me less scared but it really was the truth, they all did a great job. Good Luck.... -
band to sleeve question
MissMinnie replied to melissa71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI, Yes Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision in one surgery. Had my band almost 4 years. Very happy with my sleeve and looking forward to finally getting to my goal. IMO the band is nothing like the sleeve but others might think differently. Good Luck -
HI, Add me to his list of happy sleevers. He did my revision about 4.5 months ago. I understand it is different for everyone but this was easier on me than my band surgery. Self paid in Florida for my band and self paid for the revision with Dr Aceves. Was very tired of puking with the band and all the side problems I had with my band. We do have insurance just doesn't cover WLS. Decided to email Dr Aceves and within 10 days had surgery. Flew out from Florida and back within the 4 days with NO problems. My husband did go with me. Currently living in Maui and have lost about 60% to my goal. IMHO, he is the best revision surgeon for me. I also love Dr Campos who works with him. Good Luck on whatever you decide.
-
HI, I had those feelings too. Dr Aceves and Dr Campos assured me that the sleeve would be different than my band. So after almost 4 months it is very different and I am very glad I had Dr Aceves do my revision in 1 surgery. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

Are you guys real people and patients?
MissMinnie replied to CCinINdiana's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am also a "real" person and have never been paid anything or been asked to post comments about Dr Aceves. After LOTS of research I chose Dr Aceves to do my band to sleeve revision due to the large amount of revisions he has done. Also was scared to go to Mexico so it was a requirement to stay in a hospital in case there was some problem. Was pleasantly surprised at how little pain I had after surgery. Had no gas pains which was great since they were really bad after my lap band. Self paid for both surgeries but I had the lap band done in Florida. Good Luck. -
Revision Procedure By Dr. Aceves
MissMinnie replied to Patti Sue's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow so many with band to sleeve revisions. Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision 3 1/2 months ago. My experience was totally awesome. My husband went with me and I am such a baby with pain he was saying "this is going to be bad". Nope! No throwing up, almost no pain and no dry heaving. I couldn't believe it. Another girl was there just getting the sleeve and she was doing really good too, then there was a guy there and I felt so sorry for him. He was not feeling too well. I have emailed both of them and they are both doing great now. I had my band for 4 years and am so glad it is gone. I decided not to be a slave to the scale and the last time I weighed I was 3 months out and down 53 lbs. More than half way to my goal and looking forward to the rest of my life..... Good Luck to all of you....... -
Revision in the morning!!!
MissMinnie replied to Ricky's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi, Good luck and well wishes being sent. Dr Aceves did my revision 3 months ago and was very surprised that I had almost no pain. I am a baby and my lap band surgery was awful, it was done in Florida. Now the guy who had his sleeve done before me was sicker than a dog but he also smoked so I don't know if that was some of the reason. They were very good to me and I am sure they will be to you too. -
HI, Glad everything worked out in the end. Dr Aceves and Dr Campos were great with me. This was the first time I went to Mexico and actually couldn't believe I was doing it. The hospital, the testing, the doctors and their staff was MUCH better than any hospital I had been to in Florida, California and AZ. This incident should help them with others that have the same condition. I found them to be very positive and helpful. Also through all of my research they are the best revision surgeons around. Just my 2 cents and I am really glad it all worked out and now on to drinking and Protein for you.....

How my life has changed
MissMinnie replied to Suzannesh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Also a band to sleeve revision by Dr Aceves. Self paid for the band in Florida and the sleeve in Mexico. Doing all of my research he was the most experienced revision surgeon other than the one I also really liked in San Fran. Since I was self pay Nina was able to schedule within 10 days. Dr Aceves and Dr Campos are worth whatever they charge. My husband went with me and was really surprised at how great everyone was, how clean it was and how the Drs were so informative. Congratulations on your new life and hopefully I will be able to do as well as you have. NOTE: I have not been paid for my review of Dr Aceves! It is just my experience. -
Is. Dr. Aceves really THAT great?
MissMinnie replied to Roudoudou's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm a band to sleeve revision and in short Dr Aceves is well worth the money. Self paid for the band in Florida and after all my research he was the best revision surgeon for me. I could go on and on about why I am so happy with Dr Aceves but since the others posted above with the positives it would be redundant. Everyone should do what is best for them. DISCLAIMER!!! I have not been paid for this positive opinion from anyone. Am just glad that during my research I had other opinions to guide me and then I made up my own mind. Good Luck to you. -
Introducing Jess... just Jess!
MissMinnie replied to Just Jess's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations Jess! At almost 2 months out I am still amazed at how 2 or 3 tablespoons totally fills me up. Your type A personality will do great at using your sleeve as a tool. Within a few weeks you will feel so much better and be able to drink more. Now I can actually get down the required amount of Water but I am still using Protein shakes to get all my protein since I am not hungry and can't eat that much yet. I know for a fact that you will be a ROCK STAR at using your sleeve. -
Going with VSG after Lapband slip
MissMinnie replied to theresasweeney's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Viola, The US medical insurance is a SHAM!!!!! Like I said we pay a lot and it wasn't covered. In saying that I am very thankful we are in the position to have the money to pay for the revision. Strange enough I agree with the 1 WLS per life some of the policies have. The hospital I went to was much nicer than the hospital I went to for my lap band in Florida. Dr Aceves and Dr Campos spent a lot of time with me before and after the surgery. I could find nothing negative to say about my revision which actually surprises me since I am not a fan of Mexico in general. Good Luck on your upcoming surgery. Miss Minnie..... -
Going with VSG after Lapband slip
MissMinnie replied to theresasweeney's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
HI, Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision about 7 weeks ago. I was self pay for both the band (done in the US) and the revision. Never in a million years did I ever think I would go to Mexico but after researching revisions and how many the surgeons did I went with him. Obviously it was also 50% + or - of what most surgeons wanted in the US. There is also a Dr. that I wanted to use in San Francisco but ended up going with Dr Aceves after talking with several of his band to sleeve revisions. I don't know anything about any of the other doctors in Mexico and would suggest that you find out how many revisions the surgeon has actually done. I would also not shop for a doctor in Mexico based on price. Mexicali is much different that TJ or Juarez but have read that several who have had the sleeve are also happy their surgeons in those areas but don't know if they had revisions. There also is a lot of good doctors in the US I am sure. I read a post earlier from someone complaining about those who talk about how great the Mexico surgeon is/was and was actually questioning if the posts were actually "true". Sure wish she lived in my shoes maybe she wouldn't be so judgmental. We actually pay A LOT of money every month for our health insurance and WLS is not covered. In any case good luck and my advise would be to do it as soon as possible so that you don't continue to gain weight. -
You have done so well. Congratulations!!! Dr Aceves was also my surgeon and I am very thankful for my sleeve. I can only hope I am as successful as you have been.
