Question about Recovery
nursiepooh replied to lapband4meNOW's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"My surgery is Feb 8th. I am pretty nervous. All the info here has made me feel better. Just wanted to know your experience with surgery and right after surgery. How long until you felt like you could get up and say go to the office? Someone else told me a couple days and they were back at a office job. Want to know if you are aware of it inside you and did you vomit at all. Just mostly curious about what the experience was like and the first week after. Any answers would be greatly appreciated!!! " Umm I was supposed to be in the hospital for an overnight stay. My surgon does a spinal anasthesia and a general. I was not able to walk till the next day. I was able to stand 12 hrs post op, but could not walk. I couldn't move my legs at all. My respiratory status bombed out a bit, and my oxygen level went down to 85. The normal is 95 and above. I also had Potassium depletion which showed up in my heart rhythm. I stayed for 2 nights and then went home. I am 9 days post op, and while I can walk and take in puree foods, I am in pain. I am a nurse and so my surgon will not let me go back to work until 4 weeks post op. A friend of mine had an infected port site and after antibiotics, they had to go in remove the old por and put in a new one...which of course was worse then the initial surgery because she also had a wound on top of it. Anyway, I am nto trying to scare you, but rather prepare you for what might never (hopefully) occur for you. -
ok I am confused. what is productive burping? is that vomitting? I burp alot, sometimes after I drink. Is that the same thing you are taling about?

I have BCBS in NY. I had my surgery a month after starting this quest. Your BMI has to be between 40 and 50 to have the surgery in most cases. Mine was 56 and no problem getting approval. There was no wait time. I started on Dec 12, got all my consults done by Jan 16th and had the surgery on the 22nd. Also you only need a BMI of 35 or above with one co morbidity. I have none. BCBS has many different policies out there. Each one is different. In NY there are approx 15 different policies and several riders.

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

nykee, 100 pounds is alot of weight to lose. Do not give up hope. maybe you need another fill? Maybe re evaluate what you are eating? Maybe shock your system with an increased excercize routine? Just remember you didn't put all the weight on in a year, don't expect to take it off in that time. You can reach your goal weight, it will just take time. -

Hi there Lizrbit, My insurance company said i had to be between 40 and 50 on a bmi. My surgeon pursueded them and I got my surgery. If you use an out of network surgeon sometimes the insurance will reimburse you 80% and you pay the other 20. however I will tell you the surgery is expensiv and the post op room is 16,000 on average! If you can find a surgeon in network I suggest switching. Also find Lap Band support groups in your areea and talk to the people. find out who they used. I would never use a surgeon I didn't know, or didn't have reccomended to me. -
