Sept 2011 bandsters
DawnH replied to WannaBeSlimNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the info! We have Trader Joe's here so I will have to check it out. Those sound good! -
So funny because when I told the dr that is what I was craving she said that a lot of people say they crave them. Funny!
-
Haha, that's what I had for lunch as soon as the dr gave me the thumbs up for soft foods I had refried beans with a little cheese on top, so yummy!

Sounds like we both are on a similar path . Mine went really well too, the healing, the diet, being able to tolerate all the liquids (what variety there is there). She said the port felt good. I am still a little swollen on the left side but she said it is because the stitches at the port incision are really tight but that my abdomen felt soft so that is normal. Congrats to a good appt!

It went really well! Everything is healing perfect and I think that is due to my patience with being on the liquid diet. Just stick with it and it will pay off. I advanced to soft foods so I am so excited to have more variety! I told her I was so tired of the after taste the shakes leave in my mouth and she said I can suck on a sugar free lemon candy to sort of neutralize the taste. I have lost 7 lbs since surgery and 25 lbs since the pre-op diet so she was happy with that especially since there is no restriction in the band yet. Thanks for asking!

The whole bed thing sounds familiar! I slept all night in my bed with the hubby for the first time since Sept.12, just last night! I would try but I am not a back sleeper and so laying flat on my back hurt too much. I have been feeling good the past few days, like pain free, and so I tried laying on my stomach and I was scared, lol. It didn't hurt so I slept in bed all night, lol. Silly little triumph It did feel so weird to not sleep with him.

Since being banded, do you notice how much people eat more??
DawnH replied to screeden's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's funny, my husband gets annoyed with me telling him how/what to eat too. Last night I was practically counting his calories as he ate. He is 5'10" and 175 so he is totally average size but man he can eat. -
I have my 2 week post op appt today and I so can't wait to see if they advance my diet. I am so bored with the liquid diet, lol. I was able to sleep on my stomach last night too and that felt so good! Hope everyone is doing good!

Are you on a clear liquid or full liquid right now? I am a lot less frustrated since I have more options being on the full liquid. I have my 2 week post op tomorrow and I am hoping they advance my diet so I can have more variety, we will see . You just have to remember this period is only for a short time. My friend was banded 2 years ago and she kept reminding me of that too, it is only a short period of time that seems like it will be forever till we can eat regular food. -

I agree with you on how hard it is preparing meals for the family and not being able to enjoy it too. I would be a lot happier mommy if I could just serve them a Protein shake for dinner too, lol. I think it will get better once we are transitioned back to regular food Keep your head up! -
I had mine at a hospital and stayed overnight. I preferred that for the same reasons as the above 2 posters.

Should I go or not go ??
DawnH replied to Nicole0425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like the others have said you will just have to see how your surgery goes and how much pain you are in. I was feeling pretty good on the 3rd day and ran a couple errands with my husband and that evening I was hurting. I feel like it sort of set me back a day but everyone's experience is different. I am 2 weeks out and still sore. I am a lot more exhausted than I expected to be. Make sure you don't push yourself though, let your body heal. Good luck! -
That sounds good! May have to try that! I need more variety.

I never thought cream of wheat would ever taste as good as it does, lol. My father in law had a good suggestion, to add a little flavored sugar free coffee creamer in with it to add different flavors too. I haven't tried it because I have the maple brown sugar now but I am going to try that next. I thought that sounded so good.

On the Fudgesicle - counting the Proteins in junk found is not considered a high vale Protein. In my nutrition class there are only certain high value foods with protein that we are allowed to count - they said do not count the others. I understand if it is sugar free fudgesicles but don't we need to change our bad habits of thinking about sweets so much and think healthy foods and portions. If the fudgesicles are not sugar free, you are not starting out too good at changing poor nutritional decisions that got us in this position of having to get lap band surgery. I said they are the sugar free fudgesicles and I think we all got to where we are for different reasons.

Let's talk about gas, shall we?
DawnH replied to JinTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Gas X won't help with the gas pains but they will help with all that gurgling. The walking as painful as it is is what will help with the gas that is in the chest area but the gurgling, def the Gas X helps. -
The sugar free fudgesicles have protein and I mix the cream soups with milk instead of water and my thinned out cream of wheat I use milk in too to boost up my protein but still am only getting about 50 grams a day.

Yeah I do by my big incision. It is from where they cut through the nerves and it takes a little while for the nerves to heal hence the numb feeling. It will heal. I had thhe same thing when I had my gallbladder out
-
Just till completely healed

Get the GasX strips, they dissolve on your tongue. My stomach was so gurgly after that they helped with that too. Take you meds if you need them! Rest is good for you -

I was banded on the 12th and am on the full liquids. I think things are easier diet wise because there are more options on the full liquid than on the pre-op diet. I feel like there is a light at the end of the starvation tunnel, lol. I was hungry the whole time I was on the pre-op diet. I didn't cheat on the pre-op and I haven't on the full liquids but I can't wait to go to my post-op appt and am hoping they move me on to the pureed food stage . Good luck! -

Sorry for all your struggles! We all know all drs. are different but my dr said I can have thinned out cream of wheat. I was banded on the 12th and am on the full liquid diet. Once I get to the pureed food I can have it regular consistency. Good luck! -
One cream soup I want to make is cream of carrot. I thought that sounded so good! Yeah, you may want to wait on the tomato soup
