    October Bandsters!!!

Hi All- Hoping I can slide into your chat! I was technically a September bandster (September 29th) It has really been easy sailing so far, and this is without any pain meds. It turns out I am allergic to most narcotics so this was done oh natural. The gas pains in my neck and shoulders were horrendous, but I can thankfully say they are gone! I find my problem has been that I have not found my self full over the past few days. I am following the diet from my doctor and started pureed food today, and the 2-3 tablespoon portions are not cutting it. I am also yo-yoing with weight. About 10 down since surgery, but I go up a lb and down, but not lower than 10 yet. Frustrating. I am wondering if this all will just be the way it is until my first fill...?? Good luck to everyone!
  4. Hi Everyone! So I am two weeks post surgery and feeling great! The incision site is still a little sore, but really feeling good. I had to do a liquid and semi liquid diet for two weeks and that was rough, but I really had no problem keeping anything down or with feeling nauseous. Today I started my pureed diet and have some questions. Again, all of the food I have tried so far has been tolerated well. My only complaint is that I kind of feel like I have food stuck in my throat, kind of like I can't get a good swallow in. I am not sure if I am just coming down with something cold wise, or if its related to my surgery. Anyone else every experience that? Is that normal? My other questions is related to the fact that I am HUNGRY! Now, I have not had a fill yet, so is this normal? They say eat 2-3 tablespoons of pureed Protein, 1-2 tablespoons pureed fruit and same for an allowed starch. I had that all, sat for a while and was still hungry. Is this normal? I guess I was under the impression that after the surgery I would feel full after small amounts of food and I just don't feel that way. Will that change after I get filled in two weeks and I just have to wait till then? I was at a group nutrition meeting yesterday and I was the only one who had the band; everyone else had the sleeve done. I felt like such an outsider because they were complaining of keeping food down, only being able to eat small amounts of food and lots of food tolerance problems. I just couldn't relate. I am just outside of the norm? Thanks for any suggestions and comments. Emily
  5. Thanks for all the suggestions, tips, and well wishes. Overnight, this surgery became a little less scary, knowing that I can talk with people who are going through this journey as well. Thanks again!

106 pounds lost in a year!

I am about one and half months till my surgery and am nervous to say the least. Your post was very inspirational and I thank you for it. You confirmed my thoughts, that it will be hard, but it is doable! I hope I can be as successful as you! Thanks.
  7. Hi Everyone. So I am scheduled for surgery on September 29th and as the date gets closer, boy has the anxiety increased. Today I had my second appointment with a nutritionist and after leaving that I know am on the path of getting my supplements and finding Protein shakes that I like. I am a little overwhelmed since there are so many different types and they are kind of costly. I know they say you have to just try them out, but I don't want to spend a fortune just trying all of the different products. Any suggestions on which products taste the best? I am a teacher and am have a Thursday and Friday off from school, so am having the surgery early that Thursday. Do you think I will be able to get back to work Monday or will need more time off? I am not anticipating needing more time due to pain but possibly more to getting the liquid diet in. All in all, I am excited for this new change, but am still on the nervous side. I think the liquid diet and the puréed food part of the diet are what I fear the most right now. It seems like a lot of work...making sure you eat the right stuff at the right time, allowing for time to eat the meals, the fear of how I will physically feel after eating. I know this will be a huge life change and that scares me. I am sure that anyone who has made the decision to have this surgery had the same relationship or one similar with food that I do. I love it! And honestly, it is scary knowing my relationship and feelings towards food will change. Even though I have been told over and over how I will feel towards food after the surgery, it is hard to imagine that actually happening. I know these feelings are normal, but I guess I just wanted to reach out to people who were in the same situation and see how they got over this hurdle, acclimated to their new life. Thanks for the suggestions, feedback, and help! Emily
