I'm a 46 year old, happily married to a wonderful husband for 21 years. I've struggled all my life with being overweight. I used to teach riding and train horses, then moved into the high country and spent a decade logging in the summer and planting trees in the winter. During this part of my life I kept my weight down. In 1998 I started driving truck long haul and the pounds came on up to 235lbs. In 2003 I went on the medifast diet and lost 82lbs in 6 months- then slowly gained it all back plus some.
In 2006 I took an office job with the trucking company that I worked for and first dispatched, then accounting, payroll and safety. In 2009 my ankles kept hurting- I got better shoes and figured it was just extra weight and getting old-turned out to be rheumatoid arthritis which I was diagnosed in early 2010. I started on methotrexate but within 3 months was wheelchair bound and couldn't function without 20mg of prednisone daily. When I started a biologic (Humira) it worked miracles for about a year, then I switched to Enbrel which is still holding coming on a year now.
I know that my wls will be high risk because of all the meds and immune suppression, but my rheumatologist believes it will be very beneficial for me.
Glad to have found this friendly site!
