How many grams of protein is everyone eating daily? Just curious.

I just had my first fill. It wasnt so bad. Whoever said it compares to getting an IV was right on. My doctor says I now have 3 cc's. He also did an ultrasound and checked the band and my liver. Says everything looks great. I was really surprised because I havent thought I had been losing any weight. They said I lost over 4 pounds since my last appointment!! That made me so happy! So for the rest of the evening I am supposed to be on liquids only. He says I can start eating regular again tomorrow morning. My doctor almost didnt want to give me a fill because I lost weight. I made sure to tell him how hungry I get between meals. I have to be in a wedding in 3 weeks and I am really hoping for the scale to get moving!! Sending happy weight loss thoughts to you all!

Hi guys! Tomorrow I have an appointment for a fill. It will be my first time and I am nervous about the needle. Technically, I got my first fill on my surgery day so this will really be my second adjustment. Hope this time makes a difference in my hunger. I cant wait until I get this band adjusted to really start working for me! Hope you are all having a great weekend!

GG, Thanks for your inspiring post. I have been feeling really horrible because I am not seeing quick results. You reminded me that this is no overnight fix. I was feeling guilty that I just paid a lot of money for a surgery that wasnt helping. Now that the weather has cooled off here in AZ (finally under 100 degrees), Im going to start walking my dogs more often. Exercise has been my weakest area. Thanks for the motivation. You are a blessing to us all!

Hi guys! I havent checked in for awhile. Been feeling really discouraged. My doctor wont give me a fill until I go 6 weeks post-op. He wants me completely healed first. Since I've been on solids I have not lost any weight. I am so worried that I am going to gain weight because it seems like I am hungry often. I have been chosing the right foods, however I have made some very bad choices. I really hope that when I get my fill on 9/26 it will change things for me. I have this horrible fear that now that everyone knows about my band that I am going to be a failure. To date I've lost only 10 pounds, not much. I sure hope that things will change after a fill. Sorry to be a downer.

Ms. Lady, I feel the same way! It will be 3 weeks for me next Tuesday and I have barely lost 10 lbs! I dont understand how I cannot be losing weight if I am not eating! My doctor says I can start soft foods on Friday. I am so worried I am going to gain weight. My next appt wont be for almost a month and I know I will need a fill. The doctor says a fill is needed if you cannot go 4 hours in between meals. I know for sure that wont happen! Good luck to you. You are not alone.

August 2011 Bandsters????
kristenaz replied to killerhighlights's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bodychek, Good luck tomorrow! I expected surgery to be a big ordeal and it wasnt anything to worry over. I was home 2 hours later. Tomorrow is the first day of making your life better! I didnt have to do a pre-op diet either. My doc did have me cut down 3 days before surgery with one meal and 2 meals protein drink. Your doctor knows whats best for you. Just know that you will be sore and you need to use the meds they give you for the first couple of days. Wishing you the best! -
Dont beat yourself up! You know what you did wrong and all you can do is start fresh again. Do you feel sick at all when you eat? I am still on liquids however I have cheated and have snuck some crushed saltines in my soup and have stuck my finger in the jar of peanut butter. I think when your doctor gives you your first adjustment you wont feel that feeling of hunger. Did you have your adjustment yet? My doc wont do it until 6 weeks post op. As far as your birthday goes, it comes once a year, dont feel bad about that. Hang in there girl! You are not a failure.

Hi Trevebyn, I was banded the day before you. My doctor has me doing 3 weeks post op on liquids. It seems like most people here only have to do 2. The reason my doctor says 3 is because studies show that the extra time healing prevents band slippage and band erosion. I am hungry and sick of tomato soup and protein drinks. I see my doc tomorrow so maybe he will allow me to go onto mushies. Take care!

Caryn, I never answered your original question. Starting weight 295. I am 41 years old and am married with a 16 year old son. Two more weeks of the liquid diet for me. It is so difficult to see food and smell food. Looking forward to getting back on solids. Cant wait to see the pounds start dropping!!!

My surgery was last Tuesday, the 16th. What about you? Have you had an adjustment yet?

Hi Bailey, You and I have the same doctor!

Day 5 here and I am having bad gas pains in my chest and around port area. Seriously feels like a heart attack! Supposed to go back to work tomorrow. Not sure if I can handle teaching a class full of kindergarteners feeling like this. I guess I will have to wait and see how I am feeling. I hear many of you are frustrated with the liquid diet. So am I! Just remember that we agreed to this when we decided to do this. Hope all of you are having a great weekend. What kind of protein powder are you all using? I am looking for some that doesnt have that yucky taste.

Sending prayers your way! Good luck.

Hi guys! Day 3 here and I had my first check up with the doctor. He says everything looks good and that I am doing good. I feel bad for those of you that are in pain. I am still very sore on the port side and it hurts to bend over and cough. Since I ran out of the protein powder that my doctor gave me (Unjury), I went to Walmart today and picked some up. I got the Body Fortress Whey Protein in Chocolate. Im worried because it looks like it is for muscle builders, I hope I got the right stuff. What kind of protein did you all buy? The dietician told me as long as it is whey or soy protein it is okay. On the downside, I am supposed to start walking but the temps out here in AZ are so high! Today it was 112 and tonight it is still over 100. Dont know how much exercise I will get. Boo.

Sorry to hear about the gas. I think what took my gas away was walking. I walked around and around my house like it was a track. The worst was on Tuesday, yesterday it was less, and today I dont think there is much left. I swear the walking helps. My biggest complaint on day 2 is the soreness. It feels fresh and bending over or getting up really hurts! When do you see your doctor? I have an appt tomorrow morning.

need to buy new scale
kristenaz replied to kristenaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
give it time, you may have to get weighed at the doctors then go home to compare. I have and old version of the Health o Meter and liked it. Good luck! -
I am looking to buy a new scale. There are so many nice ones that I'm not sure which one to get. The Weight Watchers and The Biggest Loser scales looks good. I like the large digital read. Does anyone have a good recommendation for me? I just had the band put in yesterday and I want to keep good track of my weight loss. I dont want to spend too much. I would like to pay less than $50.

need to buy new scale
kristenaz replied to kristenaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats good to hear because I was leaning towards the WW scale, but after hearing about your inconsistancies now I may stay away from that one. My mother in law had the WW scale from costco and I liked it. I will let you know if I find a good one. Thanks! -
Hi friends! Got the band on Tuesday and started pre-op diet last Saturday. As of today I am down 10 pounds!! I am so excited! It is so strange to not be hungry. So far so good. Tonight I go to a support group at my doctors office. I will let you know if I learn any new tricks! Take care!

Hi S2B! Glad your surgery went well yesterday. Mine went good too. I did have a lot of gas pains in my chest and back. Today, everything is sore. I am especially sore where they put the port. They said I can take a shower today but I am afraid for anything to touch it. I got on the scale and it looks like I am down almost 10 pounds. My pre-op diet started on Saturday so thats not bad. I think you are safe about the gas pains. You would have had them by now. Maybe your doctor didnt need to use as much. Take care of yourself.
