Will My Doctor Refer Me For Lap-Band?
ccsbulldog replied to efizzle34's topic in Insurance & Financing
Initially my doctor would not support my decision for lap band. I started the process without his approval and when it came down to it and I had to call him, because he was going to get my test results, I called and told the nurse that I was going to get the lap band but needed a letter of support from the dr. I explained that he had said no, but if he could not support my decision and write the letter, I would need to know because I would look for another doctor. Later that day I got a call saying my dr would write a letter of support but he would need to see me. So, my point is you may have to advocate hard for yourself and do not take no for an answer. Good luck. -
I was told that bananas were a no, but I love bananas and I've eaten one the last two mornings. Does anyone else eat them?
-
At Pink Dahlia - I was told they would get stuck. I haven't eaten them until yesterday and today. I missed them, and since I really don't have any restriction yet, I thought why not. I had no problem, but I guess I shouldn't chance it.

YEAH FOR YOU! Great Job.

You had to do liquids for a couple of days? I only had to do liquids for 24 hours following the fill then soft for a day.

thanks everyone. I looked up the symptoms of gall bladder and I have some of the symptoms. I will keep track. Thanks.

How do you know if your band has slipped? Every once and a while I get this horrible pain that starts in my stomach (front) and travels through to my back. This morning the only thing I ate was a greek yogart after walking this am (finished the walk around 6:30) and the pain did not start until about 7:30. It's 9:00 now and I've just taken some tylenol. I don't undertstand this pain and I mentioned it to my surgeon on my last visit as it seemed I got the pain after eating salad. But I eat yogart all the time. Does anyone else get this?

Thanks everyone. I will start writing everthing down. It's so weird. I can go days without the pain and it doesn't matter what I eat, like I said salad sometimes, and this am a greek yogart and about an hour after I eat it starts and builds, peaks and then in a blink of an eye it's gone.

He basically told me he thought it was the brocoli, and maybe that I didn't chew enough. the nurse at work said something about gall bladder. I go back on the 31st of this month. I will ask again. I don't know if it's gas because I wasn't burping or anything to have the pain go away.

Okay, as fast as the pain comes on, it's gone. So it's 9:15 and gone. This is typical, the pain has last about 2 hours. anyone else?

Am I Being Sensitive
ccsbulldog replied to lappyloo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I fixed meals for my family while on my pre op diet and after when I was on liquids/soft, etc. I signed up for this lifestyle so I did not "punish" my family or make them feel guilty for what they were eating. I think you're being too sensitive. What are you going to do when you're other places and people are eating and drinking things you no longer can eat, make them leave? It's like every other addiction, you have to work through it. If it bothers you to see your husband/family eating things you can't, maybe it should be you to leave the room. -
I get this same pain when I eat salad. It travels right through to my back. It's about the worst pain I've ever had. I asked the doctor about it. He thought it may have something to do with the types of veggies I had in, ie. brocoli, carrots.

i had to buy shakes for my pre op diet from my doctor. After surgey I have been drinking carnation sugar free drinks with 1% milk. Each packet has 5 grams of protein and 1 cup of 1% milk has 8 grams of protein. I tried both ensure and the special k drinks and had a hard time with the taste of each. Good luck.

I'm really not seeing much restriction with this last fill. I started journaling today to see what I'm actually eating, calorie, fat, and protein. If I don't see much of a change by 5/31 when I go back I will show the dr.

I went in today for my 2nd fill and have lost a total of 40 pounds since my pre-op appointment December 21st.

How Are You All Doing Now?? Updates?
ccsbulldog replied to kr8160311's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Banded 12/30/11. I'm down depending on the day 40 or 42, I keep bouncing back and forth. I've had 2 fills, up to 6 cc's in a 10 cc band. Not sure I've hit the "sweet spot" as I still can eat about 2 cups of food and at times am still hungry between meals. I also seem to now be dealing with wanting to eat even if I'm not hungry. i am glad that I seem to be on target with all of you who have had surgery around the same time. Good luck to everyone! We're doing great!! -
Congrats to you also!

My doctor put 4cc's in on my surgery date. My first fill he added one and yesterday another one cc, so six total. I'm on liquids today so I'm unsure about restriction yet. 4 cc's was enough until about mid March, so the first week in April I had my first fill. I really didn't notice much difference from 4 to 5. I'm hoping 5 to 6 makes a difference. If not, I'm scheduled to go in in another month. I did still lose 4 pounds from the first week in April to May 4th, but I was able to eat more than one cup of food and found that I was still hungry. We will see what 6 does.

Considering Lap Band Need Advice
ccsbulldog commented on mojojojoooo's blog entry in mojojojoooo's Blog
The lap band is the best thing I've ever done. There isn't a day that goes by that I'm happy with my decision. I've been overweight all my adult life and am sorry I waited so long to do this. I was banded 12/30/11 and have lost 40 pounds. Good luck with your decision, it's a big one so take your time. I'd do it all over again. -
I am also completely addicted to Okios Key Lime greek yogart! I eat it "all the time" for a snack.

December Bandsters!
ccsbulldog replied to sherrypep's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 12/30/11 and to date am down 37 pounds. I had my first fill last week. -
Mine is on my right side of my stomach. When my Dr did my fill he had me do a slight sit up so he could feel around to find it. Now that I know where it is, I find that I can find it when lying on my left side.

I had to have a sleep study because they said my pulse was high, which I found out from my pcp that my pulse has always been high and found out that several family members have high pulses. Also because I told them that I snore on occasion. I'm glad I have insurance because it's quite an expensive test just to find out that I do not have sleep apnea. (my insurance was charged $2,400). I think I move alot because I kept getting tangled in the wires on my legs. Horrible night sleep considering the cost, just glad I don't have it!
