sharonk replied to madsville's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes, it definitely helped me feel more positive again. Hopefully I can lose the 10lbs I gained over the past year in the next few months, and then some. Good luck on your journey! -
Lost Fluid in Band ~ ? Revision
sharonk replied to madsville's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just went through something very similar to this! Went in for a fill a month ago and the dr tried to withdraw the saline to measure and according to the records I should have been right around 9cc. Well he was only able to pull out 2-2.5 cc. We set up a fluoroscopy 2 weeks ago to see if I had a leak and during the session, no leak was found and everything was where and how it should be. He refilled the band with a mixture of 1/2 saline and 1/2 glowy/contrast stuff (sorry don't know the name of it). I went back last week to see if any of the contrast was showing outside of the band and port. Surprise, nothing!!! So now what the heck. Even the dr didn't know why I don't have the cc that I should. Immediately after my first fluoroscopy and getting 5 cc put in my band I have been able to tell a big difference. Thank goodness! I was starting to fear being a failure but maybe it's not all me. But we still don't know why I didn't have the cc that I should have had. Only answer was that my leak is so slow that it just takes forever to empty out?! Ugh. It's nice to know that the band wasn't working as it should and I'm not totally failing at this but then again it sucks that we don't have a clear answer and that the band isn't working 100% as it should. Ahhhhhh What was your end results @@madsville? -
I feel the exact same way. I have had the band for three years now. First year was great but now its almost like I don't even have a band. I am reminded only when I eat something to fast and/or when I eat Pasta. Yes, I already know that those are two big no no's!! If I didn't know that then I would probably be commenting on a different string about why I am not losing weight. I already know why. I don't eat the right foods and too much of the wrong foods. I don't feel full because I'm eating carbs and not Protein. The One thing I can say that I have stuck to, is exercise. I work out a min of 4 days a week and really try my best for 5-6 days. Of course I do slip here and there when there is a lot going on such as holidays but I do put more effort in then I ever did before the band. I too just feel like a failure because I am not losing and I've recently put on 10lbs. I like control and structure in my life yet I can't seem to control my eating habits. Figures! Someone explain that to me. It's one the area I seem to always let my guard down. I never met my goal but hope one day I can still lose more weight. My goal right now is to lose the 10 + another 5. I would like to do that by Spring. Good luck to all who are struggling. I too feel your pain and know what it's like.

New to forum, having surgery doubts
sharonk replied to Want2behealthy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree. People said the same thing to me. They thought i wasnt heavy enough. I was 239 lb at 5'4. Go with your heart and what your body is telling you! -

Oh and i left out that i have lost 35 lbs since being banded. Yes, thats great and all but 25 of those lbs were lost between the 2 week pre-op diet and within 3 weeks after being banded. (A month time frame) I need to see weightloss now. I have another 55 lbs to lose to my goal of 150.

Oh goodness...i can SO relate to this! I have been banded since July 18th 2012 and have gone in for quite a few fills. I have the realize band also and if i remember correctly, I'm at 5 or 6 c.c. My last fill was Dec 11 and it was done under fluoroscopy. I requested this because I was concerned i wasnt feeling any differences between the 1 c.c. fills and that the Dr was unable to withdraw the previously added c.c.s. Everything seemed to check out. Since the last fill i have only noticed that i get stuck episodes more easily if i eat too fast. I can still eat anything i want. (I know i shouldn't so know need to barate me on that comment. :/ ) Any who, i work out 4-5 days a week and haven't lost a lb since early December. I have my next appt scheduled for feb 21st. Each time i go in for a fill i pray it will be the magical fill that will have me only wanting that 1/2 cup of food. Sometimes reading this forum is discouraging because you hear some people say that there is no specific green zone but then sometimes i just need to know that other people may be feeling the same way i do! Good luck to you all!

I too had my first fill recently, 8/23 to be exact. I am ashamed at my eating habits right now! I started off strong (239lbs down to 211lbs) within the first three weeks of surgery. 16 lbs down just from the preop. At this point i have been fluctuating between -26-28 lbs. I already know i need another fill because i have been eating a little more than i think i should. Granted it IS less than what i used to eat pre-band. But i also have ate Pasta and have used flatbread with my tuna. I have also snuck in a piece of apple pie with reg vanilla ice cream two nights in a row this week. I feel horrible for making these choices!! My Dr said at my first fill apt to come back in two months and we will see where im at but i think I'm only going to go a month and try to get back in for a small fill the 1st part of October. At least i hope too!! As for my food choices, i will continue to fight the urges to the best of my ability. Good luck to you!

I had this pain...felt it all the way through to my back. Although mine happened 4 weeks post op. Found out it was indigestion. I usually take prilosec every day but had stopped taking it because i wasnt feeling the normal heart burn pains. I ended up being out of work sick for two days from all the pain. Went to dr, they first said it was constipation but after taking milk of magnesia it didnt clear up. Went back to dr and thats when we figured out it may be the indigestion. I went home and immediately took my prilosec. Two days later, i was feeling a world of a difference. Now, 4 days later, i feel great. The indigestion just wasnt showing itself like it normally did before surgery. Hope u feel better soon!!

Just on the side of telling people- i get tired of explaining what it is and what it is about....its like i constantly have to repeat myself and it gets annoying. I have told most people close to me....only a few at work.

Has Anyone Experienced This Type Of Pain?
sharonk posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not totally sure how to explain this so i'll try my best. To start i'm about 4 weeks post op and no fills. For the past week i have had extreme back pain...ive never had pain in the spot i have it in before. The pain gets worse throughout the day and i end up almost being hunched over with pain. It's directly in the middle of my back and the pain can be felt all the way through to my stomach (not sure how to explain that). I also can feel the pain when i take deep breaths and that prevents me from taking too deep of a breath. I cant help but think it has something to do with the band only cuz i have never had back pain like this before and i dont recall pulling it at any point. Am i just over thinking this?? Anyone experience this? -

I guess the verdict is in...bloodwork=normal. Xray shows band is fine but i may have constipation. Yes folks, all this pain im having may be from the big C. Who knew constipation could be this painful and if it is in fact the problem then i never want to be EVER again!! Ugh!! -

How Soon After Surgery Can I Go Jet Skiing? (Realistically)
sharonk replied to Lapbandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im not allowed in the water till a month out from surgery. Im okay with this only cuz i wouldnt want any bacteria getting pass my incisions anyway. I am missing the pool and lake though during these hot summer days! -
I think i know the answer but then i'm not so sure so here goes.... Are the slurpees from 7-11 carbonated?!?! Man i could go for one of the sugar free ones but then im not sure if they are carbonated or not?! My guess is they all are because that's how they stay so light and fluffy...Anyone know for certain?? Are slurpees officially gone forever?

sharonk posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anyone have issues with diarreah (sorry, hate that word) after surgery when you had gall bladder removed? I am 7 days post op and have had a spell of diarreah at least once per day since surgery. With or without taking in a full liquids it hasnt failed that in some point of the day, it comes and im running for the ladies room. :/ I have my post op appt on Monday the 30th and will ask my dr then, but in the mean time was wondering if anyone else has experienced this??
