Much, Much Hunger And Too Many Calories
TexArkgirl replied to TexArkgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all for the feedback. I weighed this morning and the scales are starting to go down again. I have a very inactive job where I'm chained to a desk and phone, so I think I need to actually exercise more. As far as the stomach growling, it is the really bothersome kind and not just regular digestive noises. I had them last night when I knew I shouldn't be that hungry, but I felt desperate to eat something to make my stomach feel better. I chewed on some rolaids and the pains did ease some. I think it is acid related, whether or not it's an ulcer remains to be seen. I read somewhere that one of the complications of the sleeve can be ulcers, so I may be one of the unlucky few. I have tried three different PPI meds now, but maybe I need a prescription strength. I never had acid reflux this frequently prior to surgery, so that makes me think even more it's acid related. I just hope to get to the bottom of it soon b/c I don't like feeling hungry all the time! -
Much, Much Hunger And Too Many Calories
TexArkgirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved in Sept 2011. I have lost about 35 pounds, but only less than 5 over the past couple of months. I am hungry all the time!!! My surgeon advised that I should be eating about 800-1000 calories daily, but I can eat way more than that. I eat and then I'm hungry again within 1-2 hours. I usually eat closer to 1200-1300 cals daily. This is not what I hear people refer to as "head hunger". It is stomach growling can't wait to shove food in my mouth hunger. For instance, I ate a protein bar that had 20 grams of protein and over 200 calories. My stomach started growling as soon as I finished. I'm taking an acid reducer daily already. I have to go for a consult with a GI doc b/c it's possible I have developed ulcers after the surgery. The surgeon said it's difficult to tell the difference between ulcer symptoms and hunger pains, and both are relieved by eating! Has anybody else had this problem?? I'm tired of feeling hungry all the time and can eat so much more without restriction than I thought I would be able to. Now, granted it's less than before, but still much more than I thought. Comments/feedback please!!! -
4 days post-op and RAVENOUS....is this normal???
TexArkgirl posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I had my surgery four days ago. I was terribly nauseated the first day, and the second day I was just thirsty. By the third day, I was absolutely starving. I just didn't anticipate being this hungry. Is this normal???? I have been on clear liquids but got permission today to add the protein shakes back in. I'm so sick of shakes, since I had them two weeks pre-op, that I can't hardly stand to drink them. I have tried Isopure, but I really don't like that either. I'm one of the lower bmi patients, so right now I'm sort of wondering what I did to myself and if I should have just tried WW again or something. My stomach is constantly growling, I dream about food, and I literally almost cried from hunger tonight when my family was eating. Please tell me this will change as soon as I'm allowed pureed food. -
4 days post-op and RAVENOUS....is this normal???

Thanks for all the replies! Unfortunately, I can't have yogurt yet. I wish I could! I definitely don't sit at the table with the family while they are eating. In fact, I've made my husband cook every meal or get takeout for him and the girls since my pre-op diet started! I saw the doctor today and while I am having some acid problems, she agrees that it is mostly true hunger at this point since I'm not getting to eat pureed food yet. I did get the go ahead to add creamy soups as long as I strain them. I have already had some mushroom soup and that has helped a lot. -

Yes, I'm taking an acid reducer. My doc also prescribed the Prevacid Solutabs, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. I had to get the capsules and open them. I have also taken another acid reducer that I cut in half, but I can't remember what it is called right now. I was hoping that was it also, but the meds I've been taking so far sure haven't helped. I'm going to see the doc tomorrow! -
I started mine this week also. I'm on day 4 of the diet, and it's killing me. I can have 4 shakes and a cup of broth daily but no food. I have two little ones, and they are always trying to feed me! I have another week and a half until my surgery, but it feels like eternity at this point! I know it's for the best and will be happy I did it in the long run. I am so looking forward to not being hungry constantly after the surgery!

Hi all! I'm new to this forum. I have some concerns about the pre-op diet. I have to be on a strict liquid diet of protein shakes for two weeks, and it's limited to 800 calories. I tend to get symptoms of what may be hypoglycemia when I get hungry, so I worry about this. The symptom I worry about most is the really irritable mood and fogginess. I work in the mental health field, which means a very high stress job. I don't want to snap at people! Will the doctor know I've cheated if I drink a little juice or have a hard candy or something to bring my blood sugar back up??

Pre-op liquid diet worries
TexArkgirl replied to TexArkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the feedback! I'm the same way with sugar free stuff. I don't like to eat anything artificial. The sweeteners actually give me a stomach ache, so that's another worry. I know the liquid shakes my surgeon makes us drink pre-op all have sucralose in them! I'm thinking I'm going to have to have a little juice with stevia at least or something when I get super cranky. I just hope the doc can't tell when he does the surgery and get mad at me!
