living in Florida I have been through this a lot. Lived through Wilma a cat 5 no fun one bit we had no electric for three weeks.
-
Stay safe hopefully it will be over soon
-
and it says about three small meals it doesnt say you must.
-
Do what you want this is ending on my end. If you choose to eat more then you're supposed to then do it. It's not affecting me one bit. I have been successful so eat how you want and when you want. Done here.
-
It doesnt say divide it in to three meals anywhere on that website you are assuming it is three meals.

doxipupp whatever you think I really don't care. I have been banded long enough to know that reading everyone's post they eat way more then they are supposed to. Then you get filled and are tighter and still eat more then your supposed to. That is why people have issues with esophageal dilation and other problems. The pouch is made to hold two ounces if you eat more then that then be prepared for the problems. I dont care who doesnt like what I say. Most people eat more then they are supposed too.
-
Well the facts are that most band pts do over eat. The pouch is made to hold 2 oz of food and most eat more at a sitting then 2 oz of food. Most go for a cup of food or a cup and a half. If you have a pouch that only holds two ounces of food and put more in it then that your pouch is being forced in to the band causing erosion. Who said I was blaming you but I guarentee most are eating more then 2 oz of food in one sitting causing erosion. I dont care if you like it but its true.

Im in Jacksonville. Lived in Fort Lauderdale for 10 years. It's coming so get prepared they said on the weather channel it has no where else to go but inland once it reaches north. Be prepared. Im sure there will be no electric for about a week so they are saying. Sending in trucks from everywhere in the US to help restore power. You can always have your surgery worry about the storm for now.
-
No I dont have any of that done. He just finds the port and does it. I think something is wrong that you would feel no restriction at that much in your band. You are either leaking fluid or you dont know when you're full. I can not fathom being that much filled and not having any restriction. You need to tell him to check it for leaks. Ultra sound will not give you radiation either is the xrays that do.

I dont take vitamins. My vitamin levels are fine except B-12 which I get injections weekly. My doctor told me if your not deficient in vitamins then they are pretty much a waste of money because if your body cant use it then you just paid for expensive pee. If you're not deficient in vitamins I would say not to worry about it. Its more for the by pass patients that need the vitamins. We can still absorb nutrients.

I'm in Florida and its odd that now I have to worry about my family in New Jersey for once. All I can say is I will pray for your safety. Living through Wilma was enough for me for the rest of my life. Hope it down grades to a tropical storm by then.

When Was Your First Bowel Movement?
cheryl2586 replied to kittylove32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if your only on liquids you may not go until you start solids. If you can tolerate prune juice it works well. I didnt go for about two weeks once I started eating solid foods but I took a laxative before surgery also. -

I make a good black bean casserole Ingredients 1 cup roasted garlic and olive oil couscous, A Taste of East makes this product 2 15oz cans black Beans washed and drained 1/2 cup chopped peppers 1/2 cup chopped scallions 1/2 cup to a cup kraft fat free cheddar cheese 1 cup mild Salsa 2 eggs 1 cup Fat free mozzarella cheese 2 tblspoons Sour Cream 1 tsp chopped scallions cooking spray Directions Make couscous according to package directions. I used a Taste of East box mix. Takes less then five minutes. Add all ingredients except eggs and salsa and mozzarella cheese. Add one table spoon of fresh chopped garlic, and pepper. I did not use salt because the couscous is salty enough. Mix Salsa and eggs together in a seperate bowl then pour on top of the bean mixture. Do not mix it together. Pour in a 9x 12 baking dish that is sprayed with cooking spray and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake on 350 degrees for 30 minutes Let dish sit for 15 minutes before serving Top with sour cream and scallions for garnish Enjoy! -
I dont think one thing she said was condesending. You're just emotional right now and I don't think she was being rude. Cheer up it will get better but you can't take everything that people say thinking they are being rude because I don't think she meant it that way.

Some people just have the misconception that after they get the band they will never get hungry and that is not true. You're going to get hungry maybe not as often but you will get hungry. I love feeling hungry.
-
Even at three years post op I still get hungry. I can not wrap my head around this why people think they will never be hungry. Hunger is the bodies natural response to lack of food. You may not eventually be hungry as often but you will still get hungry. You have to just try to hang in there in these first few months after surgery but to think you will never be hungry again is a lot of people's misconception.

I dont understand why you call it hog wash. Erosion happens because the band is too tight around the stomach and over eating pushes the band in to the stomach wall and the pressure causes that same band to erode. The band can not or will not erode unless it is too tight on the stomach or is placed incorrectly. Erosion happens but 9 times out of 10 it is the patients fault. You may not be in that 9 but it is mostly due to the patient not doing what they are supposed to do. Nsaids sitting in the pouch over and over again along with caffiene and soda (which we are told not to consume) will also cause erosion in the pouch.

I just googled it and about 20 sites came up.

If you over eat the food will put pressure on your band causing the band to erode in to the stomach. Over eating does cause erosion. Foods that typically cause bloating, such as carbonated beverages, can lead to increased stomach pressure. The pressure exerted can cause the band to expand and contract, leading to erosion of the banding material. As a result, sodas are not included in post-surgical diet plans. Cause of Erosion: Anti-inflammatory Anti-inflammatory drugs pose a dual hazard for Lap-Band patients. First, the anti-inflammatory drug will attack the band and attempt to treat the area where the band was surgically implanted. Second, anti-inflammatory drugs--like aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen--can cause serious stomach problems. Bleeding, perforation and ulcers are all stated side effects of anti-inflammatory drugs. Both will lead to erosion of the band. My friends band eroded because she ate too much and had to have it removed.

Im sure google has plenty of articles but the main reason for erosion is over eating and drinking things like carbonated beverages, taking nsaids, drinking caffiene

Start Of New Journey!!! (I Think)

I paid about 1,000 out of pocket. That sounds about right. -
Maybe your band has a leak in it. You should feel something if almost full.

Do You Count Calories? How Many???
cheryl2586 replied to DanaAdams's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I stay under 1000 I rarely go over. At three years out I pretty much know how many I am eating. I eat high protein foods and it is fine. I dont so much worry about carbs. I only eat veggies as carbs and sometimes drink V-8 because I dont get enough. I feel fine though and all my vitamin levels are fine so I will eat this way.
