First fill tomorrow. Any tips for me?
cheryl2586 replied to Cat225's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You may or may not feel any difference but most of us were told to be on Clear Liquids for the first 24 hours because swelling does occur. -
Cheating the Band
cheryl2586 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just think to yourself how hard you have worked to come this far and you will be right back where you started and it's not easy to start over. No amount of fills in the world are going to help you with that. You have enjoyed your new life why settle for less for the sake of cheating. It's not worth it and in the end you will feel bad. -
"Lap Bands are becoming obsolete"
cheryl2586 replied to Deb 57's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are not becoming obsolete. Doctors are just becoming lazy and don't want to provide the after care that comes with them. They actually have to be responsible for something. If it was becoming obsolete and so many complications why would thousands of people still be getting them. I would not have either of the other surgeries. If there ever comes a time that I need my band out then that will be that and no other surgery will be rerouting or disfiguring anything in my body. -
Had my fill..Im at 5cc..and its TIGHT!
cheryl2586 replied to lapbandchic73's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You need to work your way back up to real food or you are going to end up with food getting stuck. You are swollen after a fill just like after surgery. That to me is a bit much but that is your doctor. I would say go slow until next week or call them and tell them you think it is too much. People like me have a sensitive stomach and I have had to be on liquids up to three weeks. Just saying either wait it out and do liquids to full liquids to mushy to solids or call them tomorrow and tell them to unfill you a little before the weekend comes and you cant eat or drink at all. -
Does it hurt when ....
cheryl2586 replied to sleepingarby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have lost that much since surgery they may not give you a fill. Usually you only get a fill if you have stopped losing weight, are hungry all the time or foraging for food. If none of these exist then I would say no to the fill. -
Borderline Shopping Addiction - Clothes, Shoes and Accessories

Well my saying is a woman can never have too many clothes, too much jewelry or too much perfume. So if that helps then great -
Hope you feel better soon.

Yes a big difference and I am sure you are much happier now.

The problem with Protein shakes for breakfast is they don't keep you full. liquid diets never worked hence Slim fast being one of those loser diet scams. Restriction is not about restricting your food intake but keeping you satisfied for 3 to 4 hours. I would say that you need more substance for breakfast. Oatmeal even though it is good for you is a carb and within an hour you are going to feel hungry. What about some breakfast sausages or bacon that is pre cooked. Greek Yogurt with some Cereal added. I still eat every two hours because I have too. My blood sugar bottoms out if I don't. Try some lunch meat or cheese for Snacks and the correct amount of protein is 70 to 90 grams to sustain weight loss. Or if you have to have shakes in the morning then you should add some good bulk fruit to it to help keep you satisfied.

The Bratt diet is for upset stomachs and diarrhea Bananas, Rice, Apple Sauce, Tea and Toast. I would call them and see if you could eat something else or if they could give you something to calm your stomach.

If that is all you can eat then you need to go get an unfill. Seriously if you don't you are going to lose muscle and once that is gone you can never get it back.

Just found out my husband is trying to cheat!
cheryl2586 replied to takingaleap's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
First of all him trying to and doing is two different things. If this is not the first time why let it even get to a second time. There are two things I despise and that is a liar and a cheater and if either then you have to go. There is no second chances for taking my trust and throwing it away. If you don't get away from him now he will continue if this isn't the first time. Just my two cents but once a cheat is always a cheat. -
I can attest to all of that because I was going to do it. I lost more then 60% of my weight. It's all about choices and what we choose to do. It will not come off all by its self and you have to work at it. For those that didn't and have no appetite or want food then good for you but for the most part most of us worked hard. I never cheated one day while losing and that is why I reached my goal. Patience and honesty will get you where you need to be.

This seems to be an ongoing issue with people of how much Protein I need and I am not losing weight. The correct amount of protein that people need to be eating per day is between 70 to 90 grams. Why? Because protein burns fat. If you fill yourself with carbs and slack on the protein you will expect a slower weight loss or no weight loss or being stuck for weeks with no weight loss. Yes plateaus happen. It is normal to have or hit plateaus but to keep things moving at a slow but steady pace your body needs protein in order to burn your fat stores. I have eaten as much as 120 grams of protein in a day. In order for your fat stores to burn, you have to feed it protein. If you are giving it carbs they carbs turn to sugar which then turn to fat. Yes carbs as in veggies are good except for the starchy vegetables such as peas. If you do not fuel your body with the amount of protein that it requires to burn fat then you are going to have many stalls or no weight loss along your journey. If you don't believe me then for one week eat very little protein and a lot of carbs and see what happens. I guarantee the end result will make you cry. Protein it does the body good so eat it. For those of you that can still eat red meat it will help you lose weight faster also because red meat takes longer to digest therefore burning more calories. You also have to have a deficit in calories to lose a pound. If you want to lose a pound a week then you have to have a 3,500 calorie deficit that week in order to lose a pound. If you are counting everything you are putting in your mouth at the end of the day your protein should out weigh your carb and fat intake.

This can't be true...
cheryl2586 replied to cutlass6521's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be eating any where from 70 to 90 grams of protein daily and staying on the higher side for sufficient weight loss. -
Whenever you feel the need to ask should I call my doctor? The answer is always yes.

please help! need caloric intake
cheryl2586 replied to starfish n coffee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say 6 to 8 weeks but 8 to 12 just to make sure. Of course not be on Clear liquids all that time. You would increase to full liquids at 2 to 4 weeks then soft foods from 4 to 6 weeks then on to solid food. -

cheryl2586 replied to starfish n coffee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depending on when your surgery was and at what point of your food you are at determines when you should count calories. In the first weeks after surgery I would say up to at least six weeks or your first fill then no but you still should be aware of what you are consuming. If you are a fresh post op then I would not no matter what my surgeon said would be consuming any food products no matter how soft they are. But that is just my opinion and what my surgeon does. Once you are at the point that you are consuming real food then yes you should still count calories until your band is properly adjusted. I can not stress enough the importance of letting your surgery heal. This is the time that some people run into band slips or other complications because they were told to go ahead and eat real food. The band and sutures need that time to adhere to your stomach. -

cheryl2586 replied to starfish n coffee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now its not about getting in calories or Protein its about you healing. For any nutritionist to expect a certain calorie intake after abdominal surgery does not know what she is talking about and yes I have taught nutrition classes to lap band patients. The only thing you should be worried about now is staying hydrated and healing. Other then that you should not be worrying about how many calories you are consuming. Every time you put food in your stomach it has to work hard to digest it. That is why most surgeons put people on Clear Liquids at least for two weeks so that the sutures have time to heal before your stomach starts moving. I know each surgeon is different but the anatomy of lap band surgery is not. -
How to stop sugar cravings during AF?
cheryl2586 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in The Gals' Room
I am the biggest sugar addict that ever lived in the United States and the only way you will stop craving it is if you quit eating it.. That mean even fruit until you have kicked that habit. No starchy carbs either. I know it's tough and just know that I know exactly what you are going through. There was never a piece of sugar that did not go through my lips. You just had surgery in January and if you want the weight to come off you have to stay away from sweets. I know people say everything in moderation well I don't believe that when you are losing. I never cheated once when I was losing weight. I can't eat sugar now because I know I will binge on it for weeks. You have to want the weight loss more then that piece of cake. You have to ask yourself when you go to reach for something sweet is this helping me or hindering me. If the second answer is your answer then you don't eat it. -
woke up n something seems stuck! help!
cheryl2586 replied to Karen85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you have a lap band you should not drink soda and especially if something is tuck. Carbonation will stretch your pouch. Still call your doctor asap. -
I'm sick before surgery! HELP!
cheryl2586 replied to jaybro's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are not better by Monday you need to call your surgeon to see what he says. I know you don't want your surgery canceled but going under anesthesia sick could cause problems. Hope you feel better soon. -
magnesium oil for sore muscles
cheryl2586 replied to moonlitestarbrite's topic in Fitness & Exercise
If you stretch good after exercise your muscles shouldn't be sore. That means you are not releasing all the lactic acid in your body after a work out. -
That's is great success. Congrats and happy birthday. Keep it going you are doing awesome.
