Well you have to change that attitude and really want it. You can't get there if you dont want it. Chin up and get back on the wagon.

Surgery done but ohhhh what a day/night!
cheryl2586 replied to Brittb1987's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything that is happening is normal. I stayed three days because I couldnt keep anything down. All the pain, swelling and everything you both are experiencing is normal. -
I did not. It was my last resort and I am thankful every day for doing it. Fear is normal for any surgery. Good luck on your decision though.

Congrats on your weight loss. You will do great! -
Gas, bloating, belching, right flank pain. Usually when you eat dairy, high fats it triggers attacks

um, my band is broken...
cheryl2586 replied to BandedBettyBoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So why arent you eating vegetables. 3 cc's is not going to make that much of a difference. You wont feel much til maybe 5 or more cc's. Right now you have to have control. You dont have to just eat meat and eggs there are many other things out there you can surely eat. -
Maybe he only put in 0.7 cc's I can not imagine any doctor would put that much in a band at surgery. If he did I would find another doctor that is ridiculous. Portion control or not.

I had no pain once I was medicated after surgery. None at all once I was home and I was able to eat regular food that night. I have had no issues except for some discomfort when I eat dairy and then I only have bloating so I dont eat it anymore. Other then that I was doing laundry by 3 days post op. I have had a wonderful recovery and I had no gas after surgery. Piece of cake.

Love this and needed it so much today.

Am I doing something wrong?
cheryl2586 replied to lexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
weight loss stalls happen to everyone. You will lose and then stop. Its normal. -
There should not be any absorption problems because nothing was rerouted or disconnected like with the other wls. Only with a lot of weight loss will the dosage sometimes have to be adjusted because of the lesser weight.

Finding that my food is getting stuck
cheryl2586 replied to Connie S.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
How much of a fill did you get. You are probably eating too fast or too much at one time. Time to slow down now and take smaller bits. After you start getting fills its time to learn to eat with your band and I think that is what is happening. -
I know winter puts a damper on most when you don't belong to a gym and even if you do who wants to venture out in the cold, but there are ways to exercise and keep yourself motivated during the winter months. I have three walk away the pound cd's. The 1 mile, two mile, and five mile. I do the 1 mile in the morning because it's only 17 minutes and gets your day started, then I do the two mile at night. I also turn on the tv to one of the best music stations and dance the night away. When I was younger I used to go out dancing at least three nights a week and kept my weight down. Take the clothes off your treadmill, stationary bike, or any other equipment you have and use it. Dancing burns a lot of calories. Use your husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend and burn some calories. There is no time like the present on this first day of January to get yourself in the exercise mode and get moving. Not only does it relieve stress but it makes you feel invigorated. So who is with me to some good old hard working fun exercise? I am going to start today off with 30 minutes of heart pounding, good feeling, get me motivated for the day EXERCISE. COME AND JOIN ME.

Does anyone else worry they will fail with the band?
cheryl2586 replied to dolphintattoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never thought I would fail either. You have to do it and stick to it. I was not going to fail this time. -
Which foods to avoid for new bands
cheryl2586 replied to Sav22age's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had an issue eating anything in the beginning and as time goes on and you get fills it is only then that you will be able to know which foods wont work for you. I can eat salads and some cant. It all depends on what your band decides it will like and not like. -
If you are eating more then you should is it because you just want to? You can't just eat as much as you want and still lose weight. If a cup or less of food keeps you satisfied for 3 to 4 hours then you don't need a fill. If you are waiting for things to pass through your band to continue to eat, you are over eating. I would suggest to measure exactly a cup of food and only eat that and no more. You need to see if you really need a fill or if you are pushing your band. Over eating will make your pouch stretch because you are putting too much food in it. It is only supposed to hold 2 to 4 ounces of food. When I eat and need to let things pass through my band then I am full and quit eating. I think you are eating too much and yes plateus happen to all of us sometimes up to three months or more.

high protein breakfast ideas
cheryl2586 replied to lifewillbegood's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you get the quaker oatmeal weight control it does have 7 grams of protein in it. Cottage cheese, I eat eggs everyday and my cholesterol is fine. You can eat hummus, couscous, I also eat black bean casserole for breakfast which is good. Recipes.com has tons of protein meals. You don't always have to eat breakfast food for breakfast. -
I agree with Floridadays. I didn't have a preop diet but knowing I would fail early on kept me accountable. I still cooked the same for my husband I just ate other things. Learing to eat differently was my biggest challenge but it was not that difficult

Weight stalls are normal. It happens to the best of us. Increase your protein and wait it out it will eventually start coming off again. -
Pain suddenly ended, should I worry?
cheryl2586 replied to ManilaKyle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Of course its normal. You won't have pain forever. I don't even know my band is there unless I get something stuck -
Love this idea for salad for lunch. The possibilities are endless!

mourning the loss of food
cheryl2586 replied to banded121512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's times like this you have to learn to stop thinking about food and put that energy in to some positive goals. Take a walk, exercise dims your hunger and makes you feel good. Read a book, watch a good movie without food commericials. Don't mourn what has made you miserable for all these years. Consider yourself lucky to have had something that a lot of people will never have. Freedom from food. -
Betrayal comes from many aspects of our life. From friends, family, spouses and children. Everytime you are betrayed by people you love it hurts. So why with the band do you betray yourself by eating things you are not supposed to and in the long run feeling guilty and hurt by your decisions. Life isn't always easy and we have enough stress without letting the band stress us more. It's supposed to help us feel better about ourselves not feel miserable. As the new year approaches, stop betraying yourself with the band. Follow your instructions that you were given and even if your weight loss is slow, a pound loss is a loss no matter how you look at it. I betrayed myself for years with tons of food, feeling miserable, feeling overly full and depending on food to get me through rough times. I stil have rough times, but I don't use food as another means to betray myself. I use it to make myself feel good by getting rid of the horrible self image I had when I was almost 300lbs. Sometimes it's not easy dealing with problems without the comfort of food but I have learned to stop letting meaningless things get on my nerves. Happy New Year with a new attitude about band life!
