  1. I totally agree with you floridadays. I am three years post op and do I get hungry yes I do however I dont let hunger control me anymore. I eat when I am supposed to and what I am supposed too. There is nothing wrong with being hungry. Everyone gets upset because they are hungry but how many years did you spend not ever feeling hungry because you never gave your body a chance to be hungry. Eat something light and move on about your day. Excuses are too many because people fail the band. Its not hard to maintain you just have to be mindful of what you are eating, weigh yourself to keep accountable and know this is for the rest of your life not just until you lose weight. Its a forever thing and life happens.

    Weaning of caffeine

You can wean slowly since you have time by doing half caffiene and half decaf. As time goes by use less caffiene and more decaf until you are not drinking anymore. That way you wont suffer from any headaches.

You might still have some swelling but I think any fish is one of the easier things to eat. Give the swelling time to go down.
  4. I also wouldnt go crazy buying stuff. Just get the basics. Sugar free jello, beef and chicken broth, sugar free popsicles. As far as protein shakes what taste good now might not taste good after surgery because your taste changes. I bought banana flavored protein powder that I loved before surgery and I could not stomach it after wards. Also I would get the 4c water flavoring instead of crystal light because it has no calories. You might be better off buying unflavored protein powder and adding it to things.
  5. Congrats on your decision. You will do well.

    Port Placement

I never had an issue sleeping on my side from the port. Its in the front of your stomach in the muscle. I think its up to your particular doctor where they put it. No you can not feel the band inside of you. I do feel when I get a fill it tightening around my stomach but other then things getting stuck I dont feel anything unusual. I can feel my port now that I have lost a lot of weight but it is not visable to the eye.

    My Band

Again I said/meant if you didnt want answers to your post then dont post. You see again you assume what I was writing. Again I can answer any post on this forum if you choose to post it. I do not care if my input is needed or wanted you posted your story and I commented to it. That is all. Now I am moving on from this because apparently you all can't. IF YOU DONT WANT PEOPLE TO ANSWER TO YOUR POST THEN DONT POST.

    Skin Prep

Nothing will help loose skin if you are going to get it. No cream, exercise, tv gimmic will help with lose skin. The only thing that will help if you get it is cosmetic surgery or compression garments.

    My Band

First of all you do not know me. I said nothing hateful as you claim. You must be feeling guilty or you wouldnt keep up this banter. Let it go and you are no better in my eyes that you would bash me and you dont even know me. So now I will block you like I have others because this is nonsense. You can't assume someone is hateful just because you dont know how to read what they wrote. You are assuming I am hateful and I am not. Im sorry you all are having complications but did you ever think that you should be sorry for assuming you know people and how they really feel. Grow up.

    Back on the wagon?

You are doing the right thing. Accountability is everything. You owned up to your mess you were in and now you will not only lose those pounds but a ton more. Congrats to your journey.

    headaches after fill

The vegus nerve runs from your stomach to your head. It is possible with the increased pressure to have headaches from a fill.
  12. cheryl2586

    nerves increasing before surgery?

Its normal to be nervous and of course most people always look at the people who have had complications. Most band failures occur because the patient was non compliant with their diet. Not because the band caused the failure. If you read the statistics you would see that only about 4% of bands actually fail out of how many thousands are done. If the failure rate was extremely high then the FDA would not let this surgery continue to be done. Pouch dilation occurs from over eating. Band slippage occurs from excessive vomiting from getting things stuck too frequently, band erosion comes from eating too much and forcing the band into the stomach wall. There is nothing to worry about if you follow your doctors instructions.
  13. I would get it checked also but you could have what they call a raised scar. Its sort of like a keloid but not as bad. If its not infected it could take a while to go down. I get raised scarring and it is painful but does eventually even out. But that is just me so get it checked.

    Gas after eating

unfortunately gas is a permenant part of being banded. We all have it. I have had it for three years. I just take gas ex or beano before I eat which seems to help.

    issues

You are weighing your self too much. Also those processed foods even though they are smart ones are not good for you and will make you gain weight. I would say put the scale away because you are doing great. We can fluctuate in weight up to 8lbs in one day because of water weight, constipation, not sleeping. You are doing the right thing just keep doing what you are doing.

    My Band

No one is bashing her. I only asked some questions. Yes everyone has a right to post anything they want however be prepared for any answers you receive when you post. It doesnt matter if this is a complication part of this website when you post something it is out there for the entire public of this forum. No one is bashing her. I gave my opinion and asked again I am repeating it why she waited so long for an answer. I hardly think that is bashing her. Why are you bashing everyone else. Are you not doing the same thing that you are saying we are doing?
  17. cheryl2586

    Why

Chicken is not band friendly its stringy. Slider foods are not just things that are full of fat they are any junk food that you eat. Crunchy things always go down easy so that includes crackers, cookies, doritos, potato chips, ice cream. The best way to eat meat is to take one small bite, chew it well and wait a few minutes before you take another bite.

    My Band

I didnt say you were asking for advice or a question or that it was your fault or anything. I responded to your post because you posted it and I think I was asking the questions. You are sharing your experience then because you want others to see that the band is a failure or what? I also found another similar post you made a few months back under another name with the same story.
  19. cheryl2586

    Can't believe i did that...

You did great! I don't go to those places because I just can't eat that much food even with paying childrens prices.
  20. cheryl2586

    My Band

Im not saying it was your fault. I simply said why did you wait so long for an answer. I said dilation occurs from over eating which MAY not WAS the cause of your problems. I am not insinuating anything was your fault. No need for the dont blame me game. I was not blaming you I just said why did you wait so long. Gee whiz if you dont want answers then dont post long post that people take the time to read and then get offended because you did not get the answer you were seeking.

    Chicken Broth, Jello and Popsicles

If that is what your doctor told you to do then that is what you should be doing.
  22. cheryl2586

    My Band

I see no need to think anyone is assuming you are not an adult and know your anatomy however too much time went by without an answer. You lapband surgeon is not just a surgeon but educated on the complications of the band that he placed inside you. Another thing is pouch dilation occurs from over eating which may have been the major cause of your problems. No need to get offended because I was not assuming you did not know your own body but certainly if things were getting that bad I would not have waited so much time without an answer.
  23. cheryl2586

    My Band

So sorry you experienced such problems but why so many visits to your pcp and not your band doctor? He would have been the first person every single time that I would have seen. No I dont think you are band bashing but I think you spent more time with your pcp and not enough time with your lapband surgeon and I would not have seen his PA either I would have asked for him personally.

    Why I welcome hunger

Everyone goes bat crazy here when they are hungry but I love feeling hungry. Yes you may think I am crazy but this is why I love feeling hungry. All of my life I was obese and I consumed probably about 4 to 5 thousand calories a day and never gave my stomach a chance to ever be empty. I would even get up in the middle of the night and eat cookies, cereal, peanut butter and jelly or what ever darn thing I could find to stuff in my face. The very first time I felt hungry after lap band surgery I was pissed off but then I thought "I have never felt hungry before in my life". When I am hungry it means it really is time to nourish my body. The days following the post op diet of liquids only were not pleasant but from that time I welcomed hunger. I realized I was not going to die due to no food for a few weeks because I could drink as much as I wanted. I was not starved to death because that only happens when people can not afford to purchase food or live in a country that has no food or if someone is anorexic and refuses to eat. I was not in any way going to starve to death. I love feeling hungry, hearing my stomach actually growl once in a while. I know I won't die because of it. So when you are feeling hungry if it is true stomach growling hunger enjoy it because I guarentee you have never really felt hungry while you were obese. You are not going to die from being hungry but maybe just uncomfortable. If you are just head hungry then don't complain about it because our heads made us obese unhealthy people. The preop and post op is only a small portion of your life that goes quickly. Welcome hunger and know that it really is a signal to nourish your body with healthy food.
