Getting lapbad out of town...
cheryl2586 replied to stardust's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any qualified surgeon can do a fill if they have done them. There are many general surgeons who do just fills. Call different surgeons in your area and ask if they do fills for the lapband or if they know of any that do. Yes you need to follow up with your surgeon but under your circumstances I think that once every three months would be fine and I am sure he would think so too. Call around to see if there are any fill centers in your area. There are PA's, RN's and other medical professionals that do lapband fills. Most Lapband doctors don't even do the fills themselves but have someone on their staff to do it. I would certainly call around and also talk to your surgeon to see how it would work or if he has any suggestions about someone to fill your band for you. There are many options you just have to find them. -
You can get a tummy tuck for about 5,000 if you shop around. If you go to Mexico you probably could get it done for about 2500. My primary is going to refer me when I am ready to a plastic surgeon who gives her patients deep discounts so I will be able to get mine for about 3,800 so I think that is a good deal. Shop around you never know.

Help! Need Fast Objective Advice on Fills!
cheryl2586 replied to Peaceful1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most insurances dont cover fills do you know for sure that yours does and also my doctor gave us six months free fills if we needed them. I would call the insurance company to see if in fact they will cover them. But if you are losing weight a fill is not going to make that much of a difference. You usually need 3 to 5 before you notice the difference. -
Protein Shakes after Surgery
cheryl2586 replied to bar2373's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am over three years post op and I do not use protein shakes and get in 90 grams of protein a day. The important part of the band is learning to eat with it. Shakes are just liquid calories that frankly do not keep you full. You need good solid protein instead of shakes. Shakes are good after a fill, if you are rigorously working out and need it after a work out but I dont agree with surviving on protein shakes after being banded. If you eat 3 more ounces of meat say you would get another 22 grams of protein in without resorting to shakes. -
I went back to work at 3 weeks post op lifting 250 to 500lb patients so I would say that counts lol. As for exercise I only do my walk away the pound tapes and I started them about 6 weeks post op but I did walk everyday outside for about 60 minutes

Medicare/medicaid......really?
cheryl2586 commented on BayougirlMrsS's blog entry in bayougirlmrsc's Blog
Im gonna say this. All medicare is not earned by people. Some on disability are not disabled they abuse the system, pretend they are crazy and live off of disability and medicare for free and havent worked a damn day in their life. So no not all medicare is earned. How many women that I have known who got kicked off welfare after two years decided their kid is crazy and gets ssi disability so her dumb ass wont have to go to work but continue to get a check so she can keep her lazy ass home. I also think that medicaid should not pay for lapband surgery at our expense. My insurance does not pay for anything bariatric not even fills. I had other insurance when I got my surgery that paid for the surgery except for 1,000 dollars I put out of pocket so no I get nothing now to help with fills excetera. If you are disabled and get medicare and are truly disabled that is one thing but so many people suck the system. I see everyday women in the grocery store buying junk and paying with a food stamp card. I think all of their food should be monitored and cookies and junk food should not be able to be paid for with food stamps. Hell yes it pisses me off. If you are disabled because you are obese, have surgery and you can now work then get off the system and go to work and put in your fair share. Desk jobs do not require any physical things. I work 12 hour long shifts at the hospital have arthritis in both knees and in both hips and even with drastic weight loss I go to work in pain every single day. So yes it pisses me off that the government pays for surgery. Off my soap box now. -
Hell yes girl. I want one too lol

already up to 735lbs thats almost 7 whole people keep adding -
Also after the first few months weight loss will slow to a crawl. This is not the time to be discouraged.

Are you exercising, sleeping 8 hours, drinking enough water, eating enough protein, pooping everyday because all these things affect your weight loss. Yes pooping is important. lol. Up your protein if you are exercising like a fiend then only go three days a week. Some people that exercise excessively will halt their weight loss.

Are you still taking pain medications because that will certainly cause dry mouth. If not then we all have it. -
Can we get a unlike button?
cheryl2586 replied to m1aman's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Hey if facebook doesnt have a dislike button with all its hoopla then well...... lol. Can we get and lol or lmao button as well lol -
I know you want to trust your doctor but I would have to question his motives. This thing is in us for life and when you get all filled up then what do you have to work with. If you are losing weight then I would tell him you dont want a fill. Restriction is not about the amount of food you are able to eat because I could eat a side of beef if I wanted to but its about being satisfied for four to five hours on a small amount of food. The band controls hunger. That is the whole point of the fills putting pressure on the nerve to signal your brain that you are full. I dont care how tight my band is I could eat as much as I wanted if I wanted too.
-
I would rethink your agenda and get a doctor in NYC there are plenty of surgeons in NYC that do bariatric surgery. I cant see flying to Colorado for a surgery when there are a bunch there. I dont understand that perspective. I would want to go from surgery to home not have to fly back the next day.

Food feeling stuck and uncomfortable
cheryl2586 replied to AFSands's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too would suggest calling your doctor. You may be too tight. Sounds that way to me. -
That is awesome

It is pressure on the nerve that causes this problem. Some people have it short term and others long term. I had mine for a year until I got my first fill. Some people never get rid of it. But consider it your signal that you are full.
