Band Bashers
cheryl2586 replied to TEAM SASHA PINK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well tell them the failure rate of the band is only 1% so they are the people who fail the band not that the band fails and when your all skinny tell them then how the band was a failure. -
How many times have I heard this. Everyone with the band is not going to lose weight at a high rate of speed. To me a loss is a loss whether it be a pound or an ounce. Many factors play in to weight loss and they are consuming less calories then you burn, getting 8 or more hours of sleep, moving your bowels regularly, eating high protein meals with good carbs such as vegetables and fruit and moving. Actually wheat products such as wheat breads and pastas have been proven to be no better then white bread and pastas and may even cause more weight gain. Yes, gluten is a real problem. But the problem is not just gluten. In fact, there are three major hidden reasons that wheat products, not just gluten (along with sugar in all its forms) is a major contributor to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, dementia, depression and so many other modern ills. How Wheat -- and Gluten -- Trigger Weight Gain, Prediabetes, Diabetes and More This new modern wheat may look like wheat, but it is different in three important ways that all drive obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, dementia and more. It contains a Super Starch -- amylopectin A that is super fattening. It contains a form of Super Gluten that is super-inflammatory. It contains forms of a Super Drug that is super-addictive and makes you crave and eat more. So if you have changed over to wheat products and are not losing this may be why. It really isn't wheat anymore but a bunch of fillers so that may impeade your weight loss. There are many reasons why you may not be losing as much as others, but I say keep doing what you are doing and eventually you will get to goal. It can take two years to lose 100lbs that is not uncommon. Yes you want it off now because you had surgery but the slower the better and if you lose weight slowly you will be more apt to keep it off long term.

Success feels like cheating
cheryl2586 replied to Ashleigh Childress's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I think when you keep the band a secret you are just ashamed that you had weight loss surgery. There is nothing wrong with getting a little help. I don't lie about my weight loss surgery to anyone. I'm not ashamed that I had it. Maybe I can help someone else by telling them. Everyone has their own ideas about wls but I tell them it was never easy because it wasn't. -
You're only a week post op. It will get easier with time but were'nt you sent home with any instructions as to what you should be eating now. I was still on clear liquids at 1 week post op. You are going to be hungry but it,s only temporary. A small amount of time to me for a great success ahead.

Sipping, drinking, gulping
cheryl2586 replied to Aza359's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont have any issues drinking. Do what works for you. There is no right or wrong way to drink. If you can drink fast then do it. -

Tighter Isn't Always Better
cheryl2586 replied to Jean McMillan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I agree totally. I don't want my band to be so tight I can't eat anything worth eating. I still love food and want to enjoy at least what I can eat. -
How Much Food is Enough?
cheryl2586 replied to Jean McMillan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I totally understand where you are coming from Jean. I used to even after surgery fill my plate full thinking I was going to eat it all. Then after about six bites the rest went into the garbage because I wasn't full I was satisfied. We have to understand that we don't eat to get full anymore but satisfied. Even now my husband will make me a big plate and I take it back and put things back in the pot and he will say that isnt enough food and I say Yes it is. If I want more later I will eat it. Just like today he cooked chicken, rice and beans and I ate 1 thigh. He wanted to pile other stuff on my plate and I said no I will eat the beans as my next meal. I think being satisfied is a problem with most people who are banded because they don't give their stomach time to say ok I can live with that amount I really am not hungry anymore. My relationship with food has surely changed a whole lot. Great article keep doing what you do. -
I do not have any issues with fruit however if you peel them you might do better like Karen said.

Need some motivation please
cheryl2586 replied to gloriadiaz1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You can not compare yourself to everyone else in this forum. It took me 3 years to lose 121 pounds. Just because others are losing fast which is not a great way with the band, you have lost over 50lbs. I am sure with perserverance you will get where you want to be. Comparing yourself to everyone else here of course will give you no motivation. You have to do what you're doing and know that its the right thing for you. This isn't a race to see who loses weight the fastest. It's about you getting healthy with your band not ours. -
Drinking carbonation expands the pouch and can cause band slippage this early on. I would say not to do it again. You were given post op instructions and I would follow them completely so that you can have the best recovery.

nausea then tight feeling band? should I worry?
cheryl2586 replied to Fritzy1980's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you are having any medical issues you should call your doctor -
It's very normal to have depression after surgery. It's called surgical depression. As you heal it should go away.

Well people who need their bands removed most likely 1 over ate and caused their band to erode 2 didnt follow the rules and had to have their band removed. Band erosion or strangulation as you call it is caused from over eating and pushing the band into the stomach wall causing it to erode into the stomach. Most erosion comes from not following the rules, keeing your band too tight. I have had mine for 3 years and not one complication. People like you try to scare people about having the band because in all reality it is only 1 percent of all patients that have the band removed because of complications.

Freaking out and frustrated!!
cheryl2586 replied to readyforthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hospitals will no longer let people who have been sedated leave with public transportation. Its a risk for the patient. I would call the united way, red cross and any other agency to see if someone would take you. Im sure there is a way. -
Significant Weight Loss?

cheryl2586 replied to cheryl2586's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
6126 and I must say that is a great job everyone for our accomplishments -
who here has been banded for at least 2 years and has had NO complications?
cheryl2586 replied to Lapbandster's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am three years post op and I have had no complications. Just gallbladder surgery which is common for people who have excessive weight loss. Its only about 1 percent of people who actually have complications long term with the band. -
Stressed and medicating with chocolate? :(
cheryl2586 replied to jg9956's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would say get the temptation out of your house. Stress certainly sucks and you have gone through massive amounts in a short time but can you bake some of your customers orders in your own kitchen to take up your time. It would surely help you feel useful again. Loss of anything is something most people dont do well with. I hope you get through this hell you are going through and I wish you luck in everything. -
I saw this on youtube and decided to make my own frozen yogurt. I must say it was the most delish dessert I have had in a while without the added sugar and fat. It will satisfy your sweet tooth and give you protein. 2 cups of plain Greek Yogurt 2 cups of frozen fruit of your desire. I used blueberries. (you can add a half cup of sugar for tart fruits) or Honey In a food processor blend the fruit until it is of a creamy consistancy add Greek yogurt and mix well with a wooden spoon Place in a plastic container in the freezer. Halfway through freezing, remove and stir the container to get out the ice crystals until smooth. Replace container back into the freezer until frozen. Enjoy.

Maybe you are exercising too much for the amount of calories you are eating. When you exercise a lot and take in little food your body will hold on to it. I would up your calories and especially your protein to see if that helps or only resort to exercising 3 days a week.

Can it Take a Few Days...or Weeks?
cheryl2586 replied to Pebbagirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You may be causing irritation eating things like bread. Sometimes fills take a few weeks to settle in due to swelling in your stomach. If you can eat a sandwhich I doubt that you are too tight. -
Not hungry, but I want to eat....

10 month Post Op, down 68lbs....but motivation is dwindling.
cheryl2586 replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your still losing so that should be motivation enough. It may not be as fast as you want but a loss is a loss. Look how far you have come to turn back now. -
I dont think colonics are safe on normal people but that is just my opinion.
