  1. If you are getting food down even if they are sliders you are not too tight. Some times you just have to wait it out because there is swelling after a fill. When I get a fill it takes me sometimes three weeks to be able to eat food. I say only go get an unfill if you literally can not keep anything down. If not then wait a little bit.
  2. Being successful in the band land is determined by your eating and mentality. I have always been a good cook and the very reason I weighed almost 300lbs. I feel that food should taste good and I don't even make a boring chicken salad. But this recipe I have used many times, added things subtracted things and it has endless possibilities. Seasonings: learn to use them to make food taste good. I will post other recipes that I have made. This one is just delish. Here is my black bean casserole. It is delicious and packed with Protein. Cook Time Prep time: 15 min Cook time: 30 min ... Ready in: 45 min Yields: Makes six servings Ingredients •1 cup roasted garlic and olive oil couscous, A Taste of East makes this product •2 15oz cans black Beans washed and drained •1/2 cup chopped peppers •1/2 cup chopped scallions •1/2 cup to a cup Kraft fat free cheddar cheese •1 cup mild Salsa •2 eggs •1 cup Fat free mozzarella cheese •2 tbl spoons Sour Cream •1 tsp chopped scallions •cooking spray Directions 1.Make couscous according to package directions. I used a Taste of East box mix. Takes less then five minutes. 2.Add all ingredients except eggs and salsa and mozzarella cheese. 3.Add one table spoon of fresh chopped garlic, and pepper. I did not use salt because the couscous is salty enough. 4.Mix Salsa and eggs together in a separate bowl then pour on top of the bean mixture. Do not mix it together. 5.Pour in a 9x 12 baking dish that is sprayed with cooking spray and top with mozzarella cheese. 6.Bake on 350 degrees for 30 minutes 7.Let dish sit for 15 minutes before serving 8.Top with sour cream and scallions for garnish 9.Enjoy! I also like to use dried black beans. If I chose to use dry beans I season them with garlic, seasoning salt, black pepper and Badia season all, cook them in some chicken stock until they are tender.

New Year's advice for the newbie?

B52 I honestly don't think about my band that often. It does what it's supposed to do but my mind is never on my band. My mind is not on food. I give little thought to this device planted in me. It reminds me when I don't do right and that is all I need it for. I don't choose to consume my life with my band and food. It can take a wear and tear on you if every minute of your life is about the band. I would say that 95 percent of my day is filled with constructive things that I choose to accomplish for this year like the two books in my computer that I need to finish. It will never control my life like it does for some. I know its there but I don't need to dwell on that.

    My black bean casserole

One thing I do is pour the salsa and egg in the pan not on top of mixture this is your base to hold it all together.

New Year's advice for the newbie?

My advice is not to focus every day on food. I work in a hospital too and I have packed my lunch for four years now. Also as far as Protein shakes go yes they are good in a crunch but they go right through you and do not keep you from being hungry. My suggestion for Snacks is some cheese cubes with some Texas toast seasoned croutons they are yummy (just discovered them this morning) greek yogurt, mozzarella cheese sticks, some deli lunch meat, fruit but not a lot of it, hard boiled eggs. You notice my list is basically pure protein.

    My black bean casserole

Yes Terry they are bell peppers. I would think it would be quite zappy if you added some not to hot peppers to it. I guess you wouldn't have to use cous cous but it does give it more flavor. Cous cous has more Protein in it then people give it credit for. I have used Quinoa also but that can be expensive. I will have to play with it for other things to add in place of the cous cous because that gives it a good flavor.

    Morning tightness

I would also say if you are drinking the proper amount of Water daily you should not be retaining water at night. You have to flush the impurities out of you system and that is only done by drinking plenty of water.

    Desperate! Serious complication. Need advice.

Please do not wait 2 weeks for your surgeon to come back. Go to your local er and get them to look at it. If those wounds become infected without treatment you will become septic and it wont be pretty. There is nothing in the world better then life. Go take care of yourself.

    Morning tightness

Almost everyone with the band is tighter in the mornings and most have to do shakes or yogurt or runny oatmeal its just part of the band process. Most of us drink something warm and wait a while to try to eat breakfast.

    Some Morning Thoughts

We all have had that grief for food but to me I feel wonderful. Never tired as I used to be after consuming a million unhealthy carbs every day of my life. You will feel better, sleep better and look better. I had the chance to have my last meal and decided it was no big deal. I wasn't giving up anything good for me anyway. You will look at food in a different way and wont every have to feel that uncomfortable feeling again.

    Some Morning Thoughts

Right on B52 I think the whole problem that a lot have is they do not eat properly. Sure I had a hell yesterday of sliming, puking because I tried to eat a whole cookie that I baked for my husband not for me and that is what I got in return. It takes me at least 30 minutes to eat and if you don't think that heating up eggs about 4 times is fun that is what I do not to eat cold food. If you don't learn to eat properly with your band then you will always be miserable and pb and puke and get stuck. Its a new life, slower eating which is probably 90 percent of everyones problems. Put the fork down in between bites and read or something do a cross word puzzle while you are eating. Pay attention and when that tightness starts then don't force more food on top of it.
  14. Terry I love Quinoa and Cous Cous they are both full of protein and you can add them to anything. Taste of east makes a wonderful cous cous that is flavored. I also make a darn good black bean burger that goes down good and taste good. My husband and I eat a lot of different beans with different spices. I have learned to make a lot of things that taste really good and do not include meat.

I want my lap band out!

You don't need meat to live. Try boca burgers they are really good focus your Protein on other foods. I don't really miss meat. If its just about the meat then I would find other things. They make vegan ribs that are delish if you want meat but cant eat it. There are many things you can eat without needing meat. I would not want my band out just because I cant eat meat. If you can eat three whole slices of pizza then I don't see why you cant eat meat or you just don't know how to eat it. I never eat mine dry always with gravy, ketchup or something what about fish? You have to stop at some point and figure out what can you eat that is healthy. Your making bad choices just because you cant eat meat. I could go nine years and not eat meat and I would still be satisfied.

I want my lap band out!

I only have a few on Pinterest but not many. I have made my own black bean burgers and a black bean casserole I will email you the recipes. Tofu basically takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it with. I have sautéed it with cabbage but I use a lot of seasonings. To me that is key to eating vegan you don't want to buy things and they taste bland. I will send you the links to my pinterest and also my hubpages and my group on facebook if you would like. Let me know.

    Thinking About Removing My Band

My concern for you is the constant pbing and reflux causing internal damage to not only your teeth but to your throat also. I would think that you should see your doctor, have an endo done to see if there is anything wrong on the inside and then an upper GI to make sure everything is ok on the outside. It's neither here nor there what you are eating or can not eat the issue is the band is not working well with you or for you at this point. You may be able to get a new band and have the old one removed. I would think a very near appointment with your doctor would be your best bet. If I was having this many issues eating I would definitely have it taken out. Why live miserable day to day with something that is making you physically ill. Take care of you.

to graduate to more solid food. even if it's just one thing. happy new year cheryl!!!!!

  19. All of us have certain foods we can and can not eat. You wont really know until you are properly adjusted which ones you can tolerate. I might eat chicken salad today which went down fine but tomorrow depending on the weather I may not be able to eat it at all. The only thing I can say is just do you. Don't listen to what others who have had WLS and failed tell you. As with any WLS if you don't stick to it you will gain all and more of your weight back. None of this is a fix for us. It takes work and is for a lifetime not until you lose weight and then you figure that's it I am done because let me tell ya maintenance is harder then losing the weight. Keeping it off is a constant battle as read people that fall off after they have done so well. Just do you and it will work. Much success to you and all of us for the next year.

    Brutally Honest Today

why can you not go with your husband and relocate? The only thing I can tell you is this: We all for many years used food for whatever stress we have had. Holidays and stress are one of the biggest problems with people who are over weight. Being home with nothing to do is also an issue but you are better then this. You have to mentally change the way you think about your relationship with food. Food does not equal happiness for overweight people. All it does is make you hurt, unable to function to full potential, crowd our brains with thoughts we don't need like "oh this dozen cookies should not be thrown out because that is wasting food" I know because I am the biggest sweets eater that ever lived. Throw away the junk and find a hobby. We all are very self destructive people. If you don't believe in yourself and your band then you have to start doing it. Life is too short. Get yourself mended and go for what you want.
  21. Believe me the stress of this year alone was enough to make me lose my mind but today is a new day. You can pick yourself up, brush yourself off and move on back down where you were.

I want my lap band out!

I don't understand how you think that eating pizza and three slices at that is on the list of what you can eat foods. Nothing on your diet that you have listed is healthy. Especially all the soda you are drinking. Soda causes weight gain and hinders weight loss. I think the real problem here is you are eating with the same mentality you did before you got the band. I am not sayin a slice of pizza now and then is bad but no way can I now or before any fills could eat three slices of pizza. If you are just trying to make our hair stand up then you have done your job. If you seriously are eating like you stated then no way would any of us lose weight. I don't see why if you have good cuts of meat that are tenderly cooked that you can not eat them. Some days for me its hit and miss but the days that I can eat meat I take advantage of it. The days I cant eat meat I find other things that are healthy and not pizza and soda. You have to know that those things are what got you over weight to begin with. Why not some cottage cheese instead of meat with some fruit on it. Why not some nicely cooked seasoned beans. Your choice of foods is why you did not do well with the band so it probably is a good idea for you to get it out. If you don't change your eating habits once the band is in place then it will not help you do its job. You have to help. Point blank.
  23. You doctor should have provided you with a list of what you can eat at what stages. If he did not then you need to call his office and get one. No one should be guessing what to eat after surgery. Our plans were made for us so it may not be what your doctor wants you to do. Do not go to full liquids until he said its okay. Most people are on clear liquids for at least two weeks that may not be the case for you but you really need to call your surgeon and ask what your diet should be.
  24. cheryl2586

    completely mental

Sometimes you have to be patient with fills. As long as you are getting something in I would say wait it out. I have gone three weeks on liquids and very soft foods before I could eat. My stomach is sensitive and it takes a while for the swelling to go down. Sometimes you just have to be patient and wait it out. The only time I ever tell anyone to go get an unfill is if you absolutely can not swallow anything.
