Any kind of Fiber is going to bulk up in your stomach. I would go with Activia because at least you wont have to worry about getting stuck.

CG I cant answer your email.

Dilation only occurs when you are over eating and food backs up into the esophagus. You have to measure your portions out and try not to go over that. Having your band too tight makes the food go down slower and it backing up.

Your best bet is Metamucil wafers. They come in different flavors but you still have to eat them slowly because they swell when you swallow them. Triscuts and shredded wheat hate me terribly. You can also get some Dan Active drinks or activia works like a charm.

Everyone thinks its warm in Florida lol we have been the 30's and 40's for a while now. The most I am waiting for is to take the cover off the pool and get in it and swim for at least an hour every day. We are getting it heated so we can enjoy it more. I love hot weather. I can't wait to start planting out in my back yard. The hole side yard we are making into a garden. Fresh veggies and I am buying some fruit trees. I have a cherry tree already that is about 3 feet high I just had to wait until we bought our house to plant it. So some gardening and making my back yard my safe haven is my goal for this year. Whom ever had this house etched out some nice flower beds with brick trim. I want to fill it with beauty. So it will be my space and no one else's. Well I might let my husband go swimming now and then lol

I have to believe that all of us have talent that is being wasted. If not writing, painting, crocheting, volunteering at a local pet shelter, or what ever you think you can do. What a nice thing to do would be volunteer at the humane society as a dog walker. You are getting your stress out with the walking and making some puppy happy to be out of their kennel. I am thinking about starting my own tax preparation service. With all the soft ware out there and I have been doing taxes for people for 30 years. It can really pay well if you have enough people to use you to do taxes. Find your talent and use it to channel your stress to do something for the good of humanity. I have also thought about going back in to teaching child birth classes. Those were fun times in my life. You have to do something that will make you feel useful and appreciated.

My eyes are bigger than my stomach

The only way you can get by is to buy a food scale and measure your food. Once you can eyeball your portions then you wont need the scale but I recommend it highly -

Pre-surgery lap band fears
cheryl2586 replied to ninan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All I can say is I am 4 years banded and would have done it again in a heart beat. -
Well I think that we all know what happens when we don't stick with the plan. Its easier to do then people think. Once they get the band they think life is easy and in no way is this process easy. It can be all but frustrating at times. Especially in the maintenance phase when you are at goal. You think it will be easy but its not. I think anyone who is contemplating WLS should have their emotions in check because there will always be hard times that one can't deal with. I focus on my writing the most when I am stressed. When I have no other way to express myself I write. The second year that I was banded I pumped out three books, published them and started on two more. Some people need a way to channel their emotions but we used food for so long that they don't know there are other ways to deal with stress then food.

Lap Band for people with BMI 30
cheryl2586 replied to ussr28's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say its doable but you will probably lose weight slower then someone that is larger. Not impossible but you may just need more patience then us. -
Hiccups are also a sign to me I am finished. If you listen to your body you will know.

Motivational/Inspirational Quotes

For anything worth having one must pay the price; and the price is always work, patience, love, self-sacrifice - no paper currency, no promises to pay, but the gold of real service. John Burroughs -
Some people can deal with stress better then others. If people don't want to help themselves your just preaching to the choir. You also have to look at their situations. Last year I had a tragedy happen in my life. I would have just as soon died at that moment. I felt like a dog who was kicked while they were down. Just because people are struggling and using food to relieve their stress, in the long run they are the ones that has to pay for it not any of us. If we all lived in a perfect world none of us would have needed weight loss surgery. So what I am saying is how can anyone sabotage their hard work? It's easy when you are in the depths of hell wanting just throw in the towel. It happens no one is perfect. No I did not use food for the stress I was in but I can easily see how it happens.

Deciphering what my band is telling me...?
cheryl2586 replied to jktefft's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doctor should have given you a prescription for nausea and if he didn't you need to call him and get one. Right now so newly post op it will be hard to get all your nutrition in but that will only be short lived. -
Any long term bandsters >5 years? >10 years?
cheryl2586 replied to 4myfamily3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been banded 4 years and a few months. I have had no issues. Although there are risks with any surgery this one is reversible that is why I chose the lapband so that if anything happens I can get it out. -
Fill #3 - Restriction is in the HOUSE!
cheryl2586 replied to ccjll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You have to remember after a fill you are swollen and that fill may not kick in for two weeks or more. Hopefully you won't be too tight when it finally settles in. -
Regardless if you vomited the two Phenergan please don't take more. pills start to digest as soon as the hit the stomach and just because you think you vomited them does not mean that you got rid of both of them. That is a good way to od yourself. Be careful medicating yourself.

To eat or not to eat.
cheryl2586 replied to ineed2dothis4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to get 70 to 90 grams of Protein in daily because if you don't your body will start pulling from your muscles. Once muscle loss happens you can not get it back so if anything try to get your protein in. You do not want that to happen. -
If your band slipped you would know it. You would be throwing up constantly and not able to eat anything. I wouldn't worry maybe you just have gastritis.

You look great but why are you hiding your face? Just curious

A perfect fall chili made with pumpkin puree, ground turkey, white Beans, green chili and spices. Top this with chopped fresh cilantro, scallions, jalapeños, light sour cream, and/or reduced fat cheddar and serve it with baked chips on the side for a wonderful lunch or dinner. This is pretty mild as far as heat goes, if you want more kick use chipotle chili powder in place of the chili powder and use it according to your taste. Leftovers can be frozen, enjoy! recipes Servings: 9 • Serving Size: 1 cup • Calories: 272.5 • Fat: 2.5 g • Protein: 32 g • Carb: 31 g • Fiber: 12 g • Sugar: 2.4 Sodium: 499 (without salt) Ingredients: cooking spray 2 lb 99% lean ground turkey 1/2 tsp olive oil 1 small onion, chopped 3 garlic cloves, minced 1 tsp chili powder, to taste 2 bay leaves 2 tsp cumin 1 tsp oregano 2 (15 oz cans) white northern or navy beans (I prefer Goya) rinsed and drained 15 oz can pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) 4.5 oz canned chopped green chile 2 cups low sodium, fat free chicken broth chopped cilantro and chives for topping salt and pepper to taste low fat sour cream for topping (optional) Directions: You can sauté the onions and garlic if you want and brown the turkey but I just throw it all in the crock pot. Good for a cold day.

What should i pack for surgery?
cheryl2586 replied to SecretBander's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am more then sure you will be on clear liquids for the two weeks at least one. I would just plan on having plenty of liquids with you. If you are staying in a hotel they probably will only have a small fridge and maybe a microwave. -
I don't agree with the not eating thing because you are not hungry. You have to eat to fuel your body and I would not never want to be hungry. My hunger now is not oh I need to eat it is just a reminder to refuel. I don't want to never have an appetite or to not care about food. You see as you get further down the road what you don't realize is that if you don't give your body what it needs it will start taking from the muscle and once you have muscle loss you can not get it back no matter how much you work out. I have seen many patients malnutrition because they get wls and think they are not supposed to eat, thus becoming very sickly. I have seen them even paralyzed from lacking B-12. Stop kidding yourself that not eating is the way to go and going 24 hours without a meal. You have surely seen food somewhere whether it be home or work or on the street to remind you to eat something. Totally going without food is setting yourself up to unhealthy eating habits once again. You either eat to be fat or don't eat to be anorexic and more and more people pick up eating disorders after wls because they are afraid of gaining weight back again.
