Banded 2/2013, lost 85lbs, Help needed to stay on track!

Remember how you felt carrying around that 90lbs that should be momentum enough. -
Just got the lap band this morning and my left shoulder is killiing me is this normal?
cheryl2586 replied to EmilyMikulec's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes it is normal. The vagus nerve runs from your stomach to your left shoulder and up to your brain. It will hurt now and may hurt for a year. That is your signal once you heal that you are full. Take heed to that pain. It may hurt until you get a fill. -
The only thing I disagree with is it doesn't always stop you from eating as much as you want. If it has for you then that is great but lets not give people a misconception that it will not let them eat more then they want to because I can sit and eat all day if I choose to. I can eat more then I should but I don't. Not everyone gets the same out come and yes has to work hard at it. B52 I am happy that you have not had to do anything except change what you were eating but that is most likely not what everyone else will experience. I can certainly eat around my band if I choose to.

Any of us that have been banded for a long time have made healthy choices to eat. If we didn't we would be right back where we started from. It's amazing how time has changed the way I eat and what I eat. It has stopped me from over eating also because if I eat too much can feel it in my throat backing up.

Relationship Advice for Singles
cheryl2586 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Very good advice. Being happily married I want to add that any woman should respect herself enough to only want to be treated like a princess. If he cant do that for you then you don't need him. -

Fiber choice chewabled anyone?
cheryl2586 replied to happyloser13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can tell you what not to get. DO NOT TRY METAMUCIL BARS they will swell in your pouch and will not go down forever and a day lol. Yes I have experience in that area. I would say just up your fruit and veggies. -
Love that story. I think once you have back issues you always have them. But losing weight helped mine tremendously.

ZERO Calorie Salad Dressing
cheryl2586 replied to I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't do fat free anything. Our bodies need healthy fats to function properly. The only one of those I could stomach was the balsamic vinegar. The rest yuck. I don't eat enough salads for it to matter about the dressing. I just refuse to eat fat free certain things. -
Enjoying the warm temps here in Florida
-
I was kidding a friend I have in Ohio where I used to live about my sandals lifestyle down near Tampa. Then the snow melted and flooded her farm. I let up on her.
-

Maintenance- what does it look like.....
cheryl2586 replied to enjoythetime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I will just say it is not so easy. You have to pretty much watch everything you put in your mouth because that scale will start moving the other way easily. I haven't strayed from my Protein. I don't do meat well so I eat mostly Beans, tofu, and such. You have to be careful because when you think oh I can eat what I want that is when the problem begins. It is very easy to put it back on. I would say losing was much easier then maintaining. Everyday is a struggle as to what to eat because I do not eat the same things over and over. It would just be so easily to tire eating the same foods daily. I think that maintenance is way harder then losing was. -
slightly freaking out
cheryl2586 replied to betty_s's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well stress eat now because you wont be able to when that band is tightened then you will have to resort to shopping I'm afraid lol -
Find another doctor. There are many that will take other lap band patients after their surgery. Just call around your area and see who will take you.

slightly freaking out
cheryl2586 replied to betty_s's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would take that with a grain of salt. If you could keep the weight off you wouldn't be putting yourself through weight loss surgery. Of course they expect you to be on a supervised diet but if you don't lose the more reason to approve you. We all know that nothing worked and that is why we resorted to weight loss surgery. Don't get yourself a nervous wreck over nothing they all say the same thing to try to intimidate you not to have the surgery. -
Foods that aren't good after band.
cheryl2586 replied to Faded Design's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Once your body detoxes from the crud you were eating it wont ever taste good. When you are nourishing your body with healthy things it doesn't need crappy fast food anymore. I think in four years I have had maybe 2 hamburgers from McDonalds only because I was in a pinch but I hated every last bite. -
Some people have sensitive stomachs and sometimes it takes a while for the swelling to go down from a fill. You can do one of two things. You can either wait it out for a few more days and drink liquids or go get and unfill.
-
Good luck but I just want to throw out there that a small unfill will not make or break the scale. Maintenance is harder then people think. You just have to know that.
-
It's just not worth the calories to me. I would rather eat something for 200 calories then drink it.

But what are you depressed about? Your weight loss, personal issues, etc. We can't help if we don't know what you are depressed about.

The WL Center wants me to have the sleeve.
cheryl2586 replied to Lovely Lady's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First of all they doctors are trying their hardest to market the sleeve because there is no follow up care on their part except post op and maybe every six months or if you run into a problem. It is not reversible. The band can come out if need be. Don't let them sell you something you don't want. -
Most people snack at night you have to find something to do. A fill will not necessarily help your weight loss. Most evening hunger is head hunger and you need to get through that. If you are only hungry at night then you don't need a fill you need to eat more filling Proteins at dinner.

Jake was adopted by an old woman who did not know he was going to be a big boy. He is part Dalmatian and part Lab. The lady was going to take him back to the humane society but a young guy decided to foster him until he could find him a good home. He brought him over to meet us today and it was love at first sight. 63lbs of love.
