For years I have battled being obese, started in college when done playing football, coaches taught us how to put weight on, and just continued to eat like that for past 10+ yrs, Now 40, BMI 54, tough time walking for extended periods of time and sick and tired of being fat. I ride excercise bike and jog in pool for 35m-1hr every other day, yet still have cravings for junk food, decided to go to healthy cooking classes to learn how to cook properly, staying away from drive throughs and pizza joints,
So this was back in Aug 2011 when I first joined and was all GUNG HO on having surgery, after jumping through the hoops for Kaiser, they had a backlog of surgeries and I was told to lose 46 lbs, well I did that in 2.5 months, Surgeon must of thought that would take me 6-7 months, as they just called me for surgery appt last month, I've now lost 131 lbs on my own in 7 months , so why go through the pain of surgery is what my primary DR has asked me, I have changed my lifesytle, hence its 330am and I'm up, getting ready for my 25 mile morning ride, then I hit gym for an hr and end my day with a 20 mile bike ride in afternoons, this is everyday and I'm eating 1600-1800 calories a day. As I look back, surgery might of been a quick fix for me, but though diet and exercise I feel more accountable, basically I feel guilty if I miss a workout or eat more than I should and then next day push myself a little further, go an extra few miles .
to those who have had surgery and success thats great, but going to some weight loss classes and seeing , hearing stories of none success is what scared me, would be real easy to have the surgery and fall back into old habits, plus I'll admit it I do still eat pizza or a burger, just not 2-3 times a week, maybe 1-2 times a a month as a treat and no where new the sizes I used to order, gone from double whopper and large everything, to a protein burger from in and out. no fries and maybe a small diet soda or just water.
It's great buying new clothes as I've gone from 68 to 52 waist, 6xl to 3xl shirt, bought a leather punch for belt that now wraps around more than half my body, even shoes don't fit anymore.
August 2012 under 320lbs finally!!! I still have work to do and goal is less than 60lbs away, hit a plateau for several weeks, gained a few lost a few, So was told to shock my body with harder excercise routine from dr, Yep that worked 4.5 lbs gone in less than a week, basically added boxing to my routine for about hr a day, arms shoulders are ready to fall off, but wouldn't trade that feeling for sitting on my rump anyday of week.
