Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

I tried Almond milk this morning with my shake and I actually enjoyed it more than the Simply Smart. My only complaint is the difference in Protein. You get less with the Almond. I guess I can compensate somewhere else for that. Going to give this a shot. Almost done with the book. Wow you're doing so awesome Missy!! I've been away from the site a lot as of late but I think of all my friends here and I missed you all. You give me so much hope and inspiration. I've been tending to my parents. My Father is back in the hospital and my Mother doesn't move around very well. My father finished Chemo and Radiation 3 weeks ago and is deemed Cancer free once again but now because of those treatments his immune system is in the toilet. He spent past week in the hospital along with a few of those days in ICU with pneumonia but he was moved back to a regular room yesterday and the Doctors believe he has turned the corner and is on the road to recovery. Yay!!! I just need that stinking Cancer to leave him alone for good.
  3. Wow I have been stuck in a major rut lately. Weight is not moving much and I am having a hard time giving a crap right now...sad

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

I am just about done with the book now and I may give it a try. One of the things I did not like was the fact he wants you to cut out all milk. Regardless of whether it is skim, 2%, 1%. No milk period. I will have a hard time giving that up as I use Simply Smart milk to make my shakes. I am glad to see it is working though. I did Atkins low carb about 9 years ago and did work and I lost over a 170lbs. But it is true that you quit the diet the weight comes back on. Btw....if you friend request Chris Powell on Facebook you can ask him questions and he does answer when his schedule allows. I have spoken with him a couple of times.

    New Band Candidate Here

Hi Ren and welcome!! I also lurked here off and on for a year before finally taking the plunge and then had to go through a six month waiting period for insurance approval. I used this time to learn everything I could. This site is full of valuable information and support.

    Hurricane Sandy...

So Hurricane Sandy passed us by yesterday and last night. All family and friends accounted for and safe with minimal property damage. Lots of down trees and wires. Here in New Hampshire as bad as it was we were certainly lucky unlike our friends to the South. NY and NJ are a mess. We have been without power since 5:30pm yesterday and estimates for restoration stand at about 8pm tomorrow. I couldn't imagine what this would have been like if it were combined with a snow storm. My Wife said she doesn't understand how people in the "olden days" survived without electricity. LOL. I told her it is the only life they knew. You cannot miss what you've never had. So until we get power back it looks like I will be commuting to the Office in order to work. Here is a pic from the down the street from my office.

    Hurricane Sandy...

Thanks all. Our power finally came back late last night. So many are still in the dark. Not looking forward to Winter although maybe I will finally get to use my new snowblower I bought last Novemeber.

    Scared To Get Another Fill

Does your insurance cover this? If so, I recommend you go in and talk with the Doctor and at least give an update and get an opinion. They won't force a fill on you if you feel you do not need it.
  10. I was banded on April 16 and I am down 92lbs since then. Combined with my preop weight loss I am just about half way to goal. I plan to get a gym membership this weekend as well. I have been putting it off far to long.

    Pre-Op Diet

Hang in there you'll get through this!! I had to do a 6 month insurance required diet but at the end my Doc only required a liquid diet for a week to ensure the liver shrunk. I was 450lbs on Surgery day. I wouldn't focus too much on the scale. Just make sure there is a downward trend. Stick to the plan and it will work itself out. Remember though this liquid phase is for your safety. It is not meant to punish you. Good Luck and let us know how you're doing.

  13. "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." -Michael Jordan. We all make mistakes. Its not getting back on track and moving forward that is the bigger mistake. Move forward and start anew.

Has "hunger" Changed For You Since Banding?

I have one Protein shake a day and it yields 36 grams of protein. This makes reaching my daily goal of 80 - 110 a day a little bit easier. My band also tends to be tighter in the morning so the shake is a good alternative to actual food. I don't have to worry about it passing through the band.
  15. I am reading the book now and thinking of giving it a try. Basically, you do high carb one day and low carb the next and you add exercise to the plan. My only concern thus far is he says no milk whats so ever as it is high on carb even for a high carb day. I drink 8oz of Simply Smart milk daily with my Protein mix. While the milk is high on carb it is also good protein. With my whey mix and 8oz of Simply Smart I am getting 36grams of protein in one shot. I might try the plan with the milk and see how that goes. Would be interested in hearing if others have tried it.
  16. 9 pounds away from my Christmas goal that I set back in April. Slow going but on pace.

  17. Today is the 15th anniversary of my 30th birthday. Five more years and I qualify for AARP!!

    Green Zone!

Hi Patty, Last thing you want to do is throw up. It's not fun and its not healthy for your band. Excessive vomiting could possibly cause a band to slip and create a whole new ball of problems. What you want to do is eat enough to satisfy you and then stop. You want to be able to go 4 hours without getting hungry and your appetite should be suppressed..... If you do get hungry you have to ask yourself is It real hunger or is it head hunger. Hope that helps. Also check out the links at the bottom of my signature regarding restriction. Very helpful articles. Good Luck Jim

Are you eating solid food already?

    Do I Need A Fill?...haven't Had One...

Hi Dana, All Doctors are different but I would be very surprised if you got a fill just one week out. My first post op appointment a week after surgery was so the Surgeon could see how I was feeling and how I was healing up. They looked at my incisions and to make sure there is no infection. I agree with Missy above that this is a time for healing. Chances are whatever restriction you are feeling at this time is probably due to swelling. What Missy described about feeling restriction at first and then short two weeks later hunger returned full force is exactly what happened to me.
