My Nutritionist and Doctor didn't seem to be against it when I brought the book into their office and showed them. There is nothing wrong with changing up eating habits.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

If it were me Wendy I would skip whatever day (low or high carb) the fill day was supposed to be and do it the following day. Again, that is what I would do. I actually have an appointment myself on Tuesday which is supposed to be a high carb day. I do not plan on a fill at this point.

Cheryl I believe if you go back and read this thread from the beginning Missy stated several times that she was sharing her own experience and what worked for her. No where does she say because it works for her it will work for everyone. She hit a stall so she experimented and was successful and thought it might help someone else. I was already well into the book before she posted her story. In the end if you don't believe in what we are doing that is your prerogative. No one here is preaching as to what others should or shouldn't do.

Actually looking forward to tomorrow being low carb day. I just seem to have an easier time with a menu. By the way do you use myfitnesspal? I am finding some differences in the food journal with Lose It and myfitnesspal.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

If I wanted the weight gone fast I would not Carb Cycle. I would do straight low carb. I did Atkins low carb induction for a year and half. It does work and it worked fast and I was healthy then and I am healthy now. Part of the problem with what I did is I limited myself to 20g of carb. Long term it was not sustainable however cycling day in and day out is a way of getting best of both worlds in my eye. With this way of eating you are not depriving yourself of anything. All your doing is feeding the furnace and boosting the metabolism. That being said Day 1 high carb done. Protein is not as high as I would like it but I will tweak and with low carb day tomorrow it will be all about protein and veggies and little fat.

Maybe it has something to do with the sleeping that it allows the muscles to relax and contract.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Thanks. These high carb days are going to be tougher on me then the low carb. 2 slices of toast with 3/4 cup of egg white took forever to eat and then a lunch a I had lean pocket and that was rough. I think my protein is coming in a little lower than I would like so some tweaking is in order. This band is definitely working that much is for certain. Never in my life have I ever had such a task eating toast and eggs. Back before I was banded I would've had 4 slices of toast and a cup of egg white gone in 20 minutes and then out the door.

How are you all doing with your fat content on a high carb day? With dinner still left to be had today I am at 13g. I know the goal is to keep the fat content low on high carb days. Here is where I am at so far without having dinner. I believe my Wife is planning bone pork chop a veggie and small starch for dinner.
  12. Day 1 of Carb Cycling. 40g of carb for breakfast. May wind up with too many carbs by days end. May have to adjust.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Day 1 for me and doing high carb day I got 40g of carb in at breakfast but it took me an hour plus to get it down. My band is so tight in the morning.

It sure does. I've been flirting in the 357 to 353 range for almost two months.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Are you doing 5 meals a day as Chris suggests? I don't think I will do that. Sticking to my 3 a day and a small snack. After all he didn't write that with Bandsters in mind. I figure for breakfast I will add 2 slices of toast into the mix and on the high carb day a lean pocket for lunch. Depending on which one you have that can yield 40g of carb alone. I plan to start Sunday but I am little concerned because I have a fill appointment on Tuesday which is a high carb day. I am not sure I need a fill but if it happens then I am on liquids for that entire day. My appointment is for 8AM.

I am going to kick this off on Sunday. Quite happy Thanksgiving falls on a high carb day

My Atkins thinking...fat is good on low carb days. In fact they encourage it.
  18. I would definitely talk to your Doctor and have then check to see where you are at with your fills. I suggest this for two reasons. 1. It will give you a peace of mind knowing your band is not leaking. They can do this by inserting an empty needle and draw back the Fluid and measure it and then put it back in. They can compare that amount with their records. 2. It will be informative for you to know exactly how many cc's of fluid you got in there. record this information for your records so you always know where you are at. Lastly, like the above folks have said getting to the green zone can take months. I know that is discouraging but it's part of the process. For example, my history: I had surgery on April 14 of this year and it took me 9cc's and 5 months to hit the green zone. Even longer if you factor in the 6 week healing time where I had no fills. April 14 to May 28 with no fill. 1st fill 5/29/12 5cc 2nd fill 6/12/12 1cc 3rd fill 7/02/12 1cc 4th fill 8/14/12 1cc 5th fill 9/4/12 1cc Everyone is different and everyone's timeline is different so you just need to keep working at it. It is very important for you to know the status of your band. Always have a record of the fills for yourself. Me I keep a file on my computer plus I have it my signature in case someone is curious they don't have to ask. Good luck and don't give up!!

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

For a 100g difference I would definitely need to introduce toast back into my Breakfast planning. Looking back on my myfitnesspal history I am hitting any where between 70 to 90 grams of carbs. So I am guessing I should shoot for less than 30 - 40g on a low carb day and 90 - 110 on a high carb day. Going to need some trial and error runs to figure it out but back when I did Atkins I was successful but I did slowly hone the program to my needs. So it was really a modified Atkins. Two things I am not wanting to really give up is my decaf coffee and my Protein shake. So I will need to plan that in some how. Unfortunately, I never became a black coffee drinker. I usually use fat free half and half and two splenda. Edit: I also figured out how to save text from a Kindle book and covert it to Word or pdf form so it can be saved or printed. Anyone need any assist with that PM me. I don't want to detract off the topic of this thread.

Jeez, I may reintroduce bread back in the form of toast in the morning so I can actually get enough carbs. I will either go with wheat or do some low carb bread. They have some good low carb ones out there now that don't taste like cardboard like it did back when I did Atkins. I am going to have to sit down and plan this out. Almost wish I bought a hard copy of the book so I could highlight it rather then thumb through on my Kindle.

As am I. I have to read and re-read. I would think 69 grams of carb in a single day especially low carb day at that would be excessive. Again, though I have that Atkins mentality that I have to let go

a lot of chicken and veggies and egg whites. LOL

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Well even now after all these years I still have that Atkins mentality. I freak out when I see myfitnesspal logging me at 75g of carb on a given day. For so long I limited myself to 20g for the entire day!!
  24. It took me 9 cc's to feel sufficient restriction. Biggest key for me was that my appetite diminished greatly to a point where I had to make sure I ate something. I wouldn't focus too much on how full you feel because the full feeling you once had is different now. You don't ever want to feel that Thanksgiving type of fullness anymore. If you feel that then you've really overeaten. You need to ask yourself 'Am I really hungry' or 'Am I satisfied'. If you learn to tell the difference between head hunger and real hunger that's half the battle in my opinion. Other half is combating that head hunger. Sweet spot takes time to find and everyone is different. Stay the course and you will get there!!

After doing the Atkins induction period for a year and half this should be a cake walk. No pun intended.
