I use Firefox and that has a built in spell check. For Internet Exploder there is a free program out there that you can add on to IE to perform spell check. http://www.iespell.com/

I am still wearing my cpap at night however a couple of times I have fallen asleep without it my Wife told me I wasn't snoring so while I am not yet ready to give it up I am seeing improvement. I hate falling asleep without it as I am usually tired the next day as well. My cousin who is 27 is 6 ft tall and weighs 180lbs overall very good health but he has severe sleep apnea. So as CG stated sleep apnea can affect all shapes and sizes.

My first plateau, an observation....
Jim1967 replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I still have a problem with the patience part of it. Sometimes, I look at my numbers and say man this slow going then other times I look at it and say wow 107 gone in 9 months that is averaging 11.8lbs a month. That's pretty darn good. My problem is I am still hung up on my past that I mentioned in an earlier post. My thought is this.....With the band restricting my intake quantity along with some good food choices more often then not then I figure eventually the weight will come off. As long as I see a downward trend I am happy. I do have my days mentally still. scales has not moved in almost two weeks and I even increased my exercise. I guess I need to give my body time to catch up. -
I never thought I would find that question so offensive. I am guilty of asking such a question when I was younger to my own Sister. I do believe people have no malicious intent when they ask such a question but yet it can come off so offensive. My Wife and I have tried for three years to get pregnant with no luck. We both went through extensive testing and seen numerous specialists. It was determined I was the problem. I was not producing viable sperm. I under went Surgery last February to determine if I had a blockage and to see if they could extract viable samples to be used in conjunction with IVF. They got a little and we had it frozen until such a time we could move forward with the IVF. We were warned by both my Doctor and My Wife's that we should be prepared for back up options such as a donor as they had little to work with. My wife and I decided donor was not something we wanted. If we could not have them biologically then maybe we would consider possible adoption down the road. My surgery was in February of 2012 and the IVF cycle was in May. Even though we were told the odds were not favorable but yet possible we had very high hopes and less than 24 hours later after the IVF cycle our world came crashing to a halt as we were notified it didn't work. We both cried for two days and I personally took it harder than I expected I ever would. I guess part of it is because even though I did nothing wrong I felt like I failed us both. Now 8 months later we talk about it less but the memories are fresh. I still blame myself and haven't really moved on. This past weekend we were visiting my Wife's cousin who has 16 month old twins who we simply adore and love to spend time with. My Wife posted the below picture on facebook which lead to a lot of "When are you going to have babies of your own?" Naturally, it is our own fault for posting the picture but I cannot help but be annoyed. One of the people who asked is an Aunt who does not have kids herself due to medical complications. One would think she would've been more tactful. Next time you consider asking someone when they are going to have kids take a moment to consider that there maybe more to the story and that it could be a sensitive subject!! I guess this is my payback for asking my Sister and Brother in law many years ago. I am however a proud Uncle of a 22 and 15 year old!

Hi Dee, thanks for sharing your experience. We've been having some long conversations regarding adoption and I think we are going to seek out some guidance on it. You're children are very lucky to have such loving parents. -
Being a married guy I figure if my wife can bear to look at me now then should have no problems accepting my loose skin. I would rather be flabby then fatty...LOL

Welcome aboard and congrats on the weight loss!! You jumped out of the gate and are doing great.

I was nervous the day of surgery but I wanted this so bad. This by far was the easiest surgery I ever went through and that includes the recovery. I wanted it so bad that fear was not enough to hold me back. This was the only "elective" surgery I ever had so seeing the choice was mine my fear was containable. I have had about 7 surgeries in my life. You'll do great. Just keep looking forward to where you might be a year from now!!

I second the motion on that one!!

I get a bit runny nose and if I ignore that and keep going I get the hiccups which usually means I am in trouble. I have learned the hard way!!

After 9 months my scars are just about gone. I usually wear a shirt when I swim. Being an Irish boy I burn quite easily. If it were me though and someone asked I would just tell them I recently had my gallbladder removed. Have fun on that Cruise!!

Snow removal...not the workout of choice. One day it's nearly 60 and the next snow...ah New England I love you so

My first plateau, an observation....
Jim1967 replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Terry, You are not alone my friend. I do not worry about losing weight I worry more about keeping it off. I've been around the block with the dieting thing. I lost 170lbs in 19 months doing Atkins but I put it all back on plus an additional 90. I went from 393 to 220 back up to 488 all in the course of 8 years. I am not scared about losing but I am scared of gaining it back. I am really hoping this tool I have implanted in there will be a good reminder. So far so good....but what happens when I hit goal? It's a little frightening. Karanicole, You are most welcome. I am always happy to share my experiences but what one thing I have learned being on this board is that the experiences vary and sometimes greatly. What might work for me may not work for you and vice versa. Ideas and support it is the name of the game, There are wonderful people on this board who are so supportive. I rely on my friends here more than I do at my in person support meetings at the Weight Center. -
What do you bring to hospital?
Jim1967 replied to Hope2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just brought loose clothes and the hospital sent me home with a pillow for the ride. Only other thing I brought was my cpap machine. I stayed one night. -

I would appeal to the insurance company. I would not take a straight up no. My insurance company told me it wasn't covered either but when I got the policy in writing it said something different. It said "if medically necessary" and they required a 6 month supervised diet. -
My first plateau, an observation....

I lost about 5lbs the first week as well and I also had a false sense of restriction which was nothing more than swelling from my surgery. I hardly lost anything my first month post op. Like CG said above you are in the healing period not the weight loss period. Give your body some time to get acclimated to the new object in your body and time to heal up. I can say with experience that I beat myself up a lot shortly after post op. I was discouraged by lack of weight loss and second guessed my decision choosing band over bypass. I did months and months of research before having the surgery but nothing prepared me for the "weighting period" for the weight to start falling off. Tomorrow is my 9th month band-aversary and I am down 107lbs post op. I would do this again in a heartbeat. It is not easy but if you follow the Doctors/Nutritionist guidelines it can be worth it. -
It was a bit slow here and there but it was all on me as the band was not helping much until I got about 7cc in.
-
My experience is similar to B52's so far. My appetite has diminished greatly as has my desire to eat junk. I eat when I am hungry and I generally eat what I want. My weight loss maybe slow at times but that is because I am not "dieting". I am just being me but only now with more portion control.

I have an 11cc band with 9cc's in it. I am at the sweet spot and have been for a little bit now.

Went to the gym yesterday and managed 2 MI on the treadmill and another 2 on a bike. I am so achy but happy.

"When are you going to have babies of your own?"
Jim1967 commented on Jim1967's blog entry in Jim1967's Blog
Thank you all!! Maddy, I am sorry to hear about your daughter and SIL having such a rough go. I pray it works out for them this time around and the pain is all forgotten with a new gift. It really does bother me that some people can have kids and have no care in the world for them when there are those of us who would give anything to have kids and cannot. I understand and believe the people who have made these comments absolutely intend no malice. I do my best to brush it off and avoid the topic completely. Occasionally, we forget and do or say something stupid (like post that pic on facebook). Appreciate all of your support as always!! -
I am waiting for the Fitbit Flex to come out in the Spring. Looks pretty cool. $99 pre-order right now on http://www.fitbit.com/flex I have sleep apnea so I am curious what type of data for sleeping does it gather.
