  1. Every now and then I get a PM asking me how I have lost so much weight so fast and what do I do for exercise. Let me tell you honestly I have lost a significant amount of weight just by simply doing things that I couldn't do for a very long time. Things that most people do daily. When I was 488lbs I could hardly stay on my feet for 10 minutes at a time without sever muscle cramps in the back of my legs. I couldn't even walk the grocery store with my Wife. I used to sit in the car and wait for her to do it and then I would get out and help her load the car. We would get home and carry the groceries into the house and I would have to sit and catch my breath, rest my legs before helping her put stuff away. It was no way for a 45 year old man to live. So to say I lost a lot of weight with no exercise is not completely accurate but the exercise I was getting is stuff that some folks may take for granted and I never will again. At my heaviest everything but sitting and lying down was a task. I was a home body as much as possible and even going out to a movie was a task. I even reached a sad point where taking a shower was a real chore but I did it every day because not taking one is just unacceptable not mention gross. So as my journey has progressed so has my physical activity but yet I am still having a problem getting in actual exercise and sometimes just a simple walk is hard to get in. Last week I committed to 10 hours of cardio and came up way short not even reaching half. This week same thing I committed to 10 hours of cardio and I didn't get the walk in yesterday. Today I am going and this time no excuses. Exercise needs to become a daily task just like taking a shower is a daily task.... So far my weight loss has not really started to slow down but I am starting to see the signs that it might. I figure as I am inching closer to goal it will only get more difficult/slow. My initial goal that I was shooting for was to weigh 220lbs. That would still put me into the obese BMI but I can accept 220. I am on track to hitting my goal of 250 for Christmas which I set last Christmas. Starting to wonder if 199 is possible. Excess skin is really becoming noticeable but there is not much I can do about that. Insurance is not going to cover plastic surgery. So you choose to live with the excess skin or be fat. I'll take the loose skin just as long as I don't start having problems. Anyway if you read this far then thank you. I hope your day is going well and that your scale is being friendly to you!

    Surgery on the horizon

September 16 we expand our partnership from husband/wife/friend to band partners. I promise I will support you to the best of my ability but also allow you to find your own way and what works for you. You're going to do great!

    Head Hunger

Very fact that you're acknowledging the head hunger versus actual hunger is huge. Now you just need to preoccupy yourself with something else.
  5. I was excited about the long upcoming weekend until on call work got dropped on me for Sunday :(

Welcome David and congrats on your success to date and the pending arrival of two little ones. Three of them in time should keep you on your toes and quite active.

Exercise needs to become a daily task

Agreed on all counts. You're all right I am putting too much pressure on myself. Flip side I did manage to get out and do a 2 mile walk during lunch yesterday.

    From the album: Jim1967

Picture on the left is from July 2011, two months prior to attending the band seminar. I am betting I was pushing 500lbs in this picture as I was 488 in October at my very first consult. Pic on the right is from July 2013 I was 278lbs.

    Sleep apnea

With any kind of luck it will be only for a short time. Normal weight people can certainly have sleep apnea.

    How do you answer ?

Same here. I usually counter the question with a question. Do you mean in total or since surgery?

Exercise needs to become a daily task

Hi Sojourner, Thank you for giving me another perspective. Perhaps you're right and I am just putting too much pressure on myself. Really it is not so much the 10 hours a week I am looking for but rather some consistency. Seeking out that consistency I guess I am just adding more pressure. As for the walks I do enjoy them however not on the level of perhaps other activities. I thought maybe if I looked at it as something that has to be done daily such as a shower, work, cooking dinner then perhaps it would actually get done. When it's all said and done I just have to do it and I have to make the time to do it.

    Blog question

Buttons on the bottom of the blogs provide you with the capability of sharing your blog on FB, Twitter etc. Just don't press any those buttons and it will remain on LBT only. Also, under your profile there is a place where you can disable Guests from viewing/commenting on your blog.

    Is Sliming Harmful?

Sliming while driving is the worst. Happened a couple of weeks back while sitting in traffic. I feel bad for all the people that had to witness that but I couldn't hold it back any longer.

Having a hard time accepting my decision to get banded

In case no one has figured it out...I am the husband LOL. I am happy Kelli has finally joined up on the site and she can hear things first hand from a woman's perspective/experiences. :-)
  18. I agree with this a 100%. I have no doubt there are plenty of unethical Surgeons out there looking to make a buck. Alex posts news stories every day about places being sued and losing their accreditation. My own weight center when I went through the process the band was very popular and they were just starting to learn about the Sleeve and now it is all they push for along side with bypass. They will still do the bands but their logic behind it is the Sleeve takes a lot the burden off the Patient for aftercare. My Wife is going through the process now and they asked her why she is choosing the band over the Sleeve. She gave her reasons and that was the end of the discussion. Her band surgery date is 9/16. Sleeve maybe a better option these days but in the end they are still cutting you and that is something neither my Wife or I wanted anything to do with. I do believe a lot of the responsibility is on the Patient for every aspect of seeking out surgery. There is no rule that says you have to go with the first Surgeon you meet so the research goes beyond the procedures and which one is best for you.
  19. Promising myself minimum 1 hour of cardio a day this week. I have really slacked of with the exercise

  20. Band is a lot of work no doubt about it. There are guidelines you must go by and after care is huge just as the others have mentioned. I also have no doubt there have been legitimate band failures BUT I am betting there are more failures because the person was non compliant and didn't do the things they were supposed to. You're going to hear more about "failures" then you might successes because the successful people are enjoying their new lives. You'll hear plenty of anti-band complaints because they need a stage to stand on and say "Don't do this you will fail because I did"....It's all rubbish and I myself came close to canceling my surgery after reading the rubbish on OH. Thank God I found the wonderful folks here at LBT. This was the best thing I have ever done for myself and if I am a failure then I love it.
  21. Weight loss for me didn't really start happening until near the end of month two. However we are all different. Being 3 weeks out your body is still healing. I know it's hard but you got to give your body some time to adjust to change. You have to remember this is not a rapid weight loss solution. Baby steps.... As for the lack of appetite I wouldn't worry about that. Some people would love to be in that position. I haven't had an appetite for over a year now and it's great (insert Tony the Tiger impression). I no longer live to eat. I eat to live and so will you.
  22. Wow you have been so successful pre-band alone that you'll certainly knock it out of the park. Congratulations!!

    Time for exercise

Congratulations. So excited for you. Another chapter in your journey is just beginning.
  25. You'd be amazed how long it took a 488lb man to shower compared to a 260lb man!! And, I haven't busted a toilet seat in a very long time. As for the being cold part I am dreading upcoming winter. I love the 100+ temps even with high humidity.
