  1. I disagree only because I think when most people post threads like that it is because they are exploring options and seeking opinions unaware they are about to wake sleeping giants. There is nothing wrong with debate by any means between the different types of surgeries. It's all about keeping it civil and constructive, not destructive. I can only imagine how many new potential WLS people we lost because they started what they thought (and what should've been) a harmless thread to educate themselves. I do agree that some of us myself included are better off avoiding certain threads. I am guilty for engaging is some heated debates and the result of that is I just post far less then I used to. I just use the blogs and the private messages to let off steam. We're all passionate about WLS especially the WLS that works for us and unfortunately that passion boils over to frustration and anger. At some point you just have to walk away. Alex has a tough job no doubt but there is a fine line between moderation and censorship but again we're all just passengers on his ship and it's his to steer and keep afloat.
  2. Not to purposely preach here but just rise above it gang. Most people do not like change but change is always inevitable. Nothing ever stays the same. Look at WLS for example. Bypass and Band were always the top options for WLS and now band in a lot of ways is being bumped by the Sleeve. Use the report button if you find problematic posts. Do not stoop down to the band bashers level. Be yourself and help keep the newbies informed and let Alex and his team do the needful. Remember each surgical procedure attracts its own "band" ( see what I did there?) of detractors or haters OK, getting down from soapbox....Be gentle I lost a lot of weight and bruise easy.
  3. I don't believe you have to be better than everybody else. I believe you have to be better than you ever thought you could be

    Share Your NSVs Here Please!

Awww...thank you. I am actually wearing 42's in this pic and they are baggy. I only have one other pair of jeans a size 40 and they were in the laundry. I am waiting a while before I buy more. These are barely two months old. Funny thing about the belt. That is my original belt that barely fit to be buckled when I started. It is such a great NSV seeing how it wraps around me.

    Im already struggling

Whole idea behind the pre-op diet is not to lose weight. It's all about shrinking your liver for safer and easier surgery. Liver lays directly over the stomach and the surgeon has to flip it up in order to place the band. How your Doctor will approach it is really unknown. Some Docs do not enforce a diet and some do. I have even heard stories about Surgeons going in and finding the liver too fatty to work around safely so they abort the surgery. I am not trying to scare you as I have stated every doctor is different.
  8. Kelli is playing Christmas music....God help me!!

  9. Make sure you get some vitamins in chewable form for post op. Also, do you know if you're staying over night at the hospital? I was not allowed to eat or drink after surgery. I had some Biotene on hand to swab my dry throat.

    Shorty!

Coach your story resonates with a lot of us. Losing weight is easy but keeping it off is the hard part. That statement may sound like a generalization on my part but I have read more often then not on here that "I can lose the weight but I cannot keep it off". I dropped a 170+ pounds in 19 months by dieting. I gained it all back plus another 90!! When I think back to that time I can remember how happy I was with my weight loss but I also think of how miserable I was at times because I was depriving myself. I could not be happier with my band life. Weight is coming off but I am enjoying my life as well. Everything and anything in moderation. Whatever you decide to do make sure it is what you want. Do not allow outside influences to dictate your needs and desires. Good luck!

    Health of the Band

I agree 100%. I sit down with my Surgeon and Nut at those appointment and we discuss my progress and we come to a consensus. At the end of the day they leave the ultimate decision up to me as they realize I am the one walking around and living with it.

    what do i do??

See if he will attend a Seminar with you. He may learn something from it. Have you dieted in the past while you've been with him? Most of us can diet and lose weight but keeping it off is always the tough part. Lapband is not a diet and in fact most of do not like to use the word diet. Lapband and living with it means making a commitment to a lifestyle change. It is not just about losing weight. Good Luck to you.
  16. Agreed!! And you can bet if they're overweight then they're already hearing about it from other kids their age and possibly being bullied. This woman may think she is doing the right thing with the best intentions but clearly she has not thought this through.

    Do you miss favorite foods

Only thing I have a hard time with is Steak and doughy bread like hamburger rolls. BUT, like TMF my interest in all the foods that I once couldn't live without diminished greatly. chips and Cheez-Its used to be my go to foods. I haven't had chips in months and Cheez-Its since before surgery. It amazes me still how I don't miss food. At times I say to myself so this is how normal (non weight issue) people feel.
  21. I wish I lived there. I haven't egged a house since I was a teenager.
  22. Honestly though if she feels that way then why not just leave your lights off and don't give out candy at all. Nope, have to make a statement about it.
  23. I guess they should do away with Easter as well.
