    Question

I know I have posted about this before...but I am a little worried. Every single morning when I wake up I am dry heaving. I talked to my surgeon about it and he thinks that I just need to eat more. Everyone tells me this but it's really hard for me to eat because I feel nauseous. Sometimes when I dry heave I al bringing up yellow liquid. Anyone have advice? Please???

    Question

I am barely getting any food in and most people are saying that is why I am doing that. I guess I'm scared of eating and the food not agreeing with me.

    Question

I was sleeved on may 1st.
  4. I have been vomiting every morning since Sunday. My surgeon thinks that when I change my food intake to mushies instead of liquids it will subside...so far it hasn't. I have a really bad gag reflex when I blow my nose, sneeze, smell certain things... I really don't like it and wish it would stop...any advice?
  5. I had a major cold before surgery, and every time I had to blow my nose or anything like that I felt like I was going to be sick. Well it has been ongoing ever since that cold I had, except it's worse now. I blow my nose, sneeze, cough, talk too much, and I feel like I am going to be sick. Is this because of acid reflux? I am worried because I can't even take my prilosec pill that was prescribed to me by the surgeon, I try to swallow it and it comes right back up. I can't get a hold of the surgeon today, so I have to wait until tomorrow, but I have felt nauseous all day today at work. It was my first day back and I got sent home early because I was basically worthless. I can't keep doing this. I had surgery two weeks ago tomorrow (May 1st). Anyone else had this problem?

    Worried :/

If you go to the Post Op forum, there is a great post by JimmyGotSLEEVED it is at the top of the section and it says something along the lines of 20 ways to tighten your skin after surgery. It's a great post. Hope this helps.

    May 1St!

I feel like I went through a lot of twists and turns before I got to where I am today! I got the news that I am being sleeved on May 1st. I started my pre-op diet this past Tuesday...it isn't any fun at all!! Wish me luck!!
  8. I called my insurance company on Friday to ask about the status of my approval. They told me I was approved, but my surgeons office told me that they need to see it on paper. Which I totally understand. If they mailed it on Friday, today is Wednesday...when will I get the letter?!?!?!

    Best Tasting Source Of Protein?

I have tried only two different protein powders. I tried the Body Fortress Cookies N Cream flavor. I also have tried to Unjury Strawberry Sorbet. Out of the two, I really liked the Unjury.

    April 13Th

April 13th is a Friday isn't it? So it's on Friday the 13th. That is a lucky day!! I'm jealous!!
  12. I hope they do the same for me. I am worried though because they told me that I have a preexisting condition on my file. Which means basically that I need to prove that I haven't been treated by anyone else prior to having insurance coverage with BCBSIL. I haven't had insurance since high school, so hopefully things will go smooth. Congrats on your approval!!
  13. I am really worried about insurance. They are considering me to have a pre-existing condition. So I am out of this stage in June of this year. But they say it's because I may have been treated by someone else prior to having insurance coverage with BCBSIL. I haven't had health insurance since I was in high school. So once I got insurance, I started my journey toward the surgery. Anyone else have this problem too? And what did you go through? I haven't had my information sent in for insurance approval yet, but I am scared that this will be a wall that blocks me.

    Loose Skin

I am probably going about this the wrong way, but I am watching a show on TLC called "The Real Skinny." It so far is about two people who have had surgery and are now experiencing a lot of loose skin. What is everyone's take on this? Is it common with VSG, even though the weight doesn't come off as fast as other surgeries, i.e. Gastric Bypass?
  15. On my first visit with the surgeon, I had a lot of questions asked from the nurse. Most of them were about pre-existing health conditions. We talked about family history concerning health, and we talked about joint pain, and all sorts of things I may have or may not have. Then when the surgeon came in, he talked to me about what I should and shouldn't eat, and we discussed what surgery would be right for me. I initially wanted the gastric bypass, but since I still want kids someday, he said the sleeve would be right for me.
  16. I started my journey of trying to get sleeved in January of 2011. I finally went to see my nutritionist and exercise specialist (for the 3rd time) this past Wednesday. The exercise specialist wasn't in the office that day, so I didn't get to talk to her. But the nutritionist said I was doing wonderful, and that she was clearing me for surgery. We agreed that the exercise specialist would call me next Wednesday afternoon for a follow up, keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to actually go see her, but just talk to her on the phone and go off of my chart that the nutritionist took notes on. After the appointment there I went straight to my Psychologist appointment. I had an interview face to face with her. She was wonderful, and I seemed to give her all of the answers she was looking for. She asked me what two proverbs meant, the first was "explain to me the proverb 'the grass is greener on the other side.'" And the second one was what does the proverb "don't cry over spilled milk" mean. So I must have given her great answers. Before she took me to the testing room, she said that from what we had talked about I was cleared for surgery, but I had to take a 567 question test before I could be completely cleared. It asked me strange questions that I guess I would have never expected. Some of them yes, but others I was completely in awe. So I left and then finally got a call back on Friday (yesterday) and she told me that after receiving the results from my test, I was completely cleared for the psych eval.!! I am so stoked!! Now I am keeping my fingers crossed that the exercise specialist will clear me without having to see me again, and also hopefully the insurance approval will go quick. I am really hoping to have my surgery within the next month or so.. wish me luck!!!
  17. I was told to go out and try to do protein shakes so that when the time comes I will know what I like. I went out and bought the Body Fortress Cookies and Cream flavored protein powder. I like it, but I am not sure I can do it for two solid weeks. Any suggestions?
  18. When I went to my nutritionist appointment, I also saw an exercise specialist. We talked about what I can eat now to lose weight. They said they would like to see me try to lose 1-2 lbs. a week. I also got a book, they are calling it my Bible. It has everything I need to know in it about pre-op, and also post-op. We went over vitamins I need to take, we went over my eating habits now, and what they will be. We also went over how the stages will work after surgery for example clear liquids, mushies, and regular food. We even went over protein shakes that people tend to recommend or that they say are good to use. With the exercise specialist we talked about an exercise plan I can do now to help me. I am now watching my intake, and doing an exercise video regularly. It is really neat. I have yet to do any type of sleep study, they haven't told me that I have to do that yet. Hope this helps out some.

    Not Sure What To Do...

I have never had blood work done before. My insurance states that I need an evaluation by a professional... and the surgeon's office I am going through sets all of that up for me. I actually read my medical policy through my insurance last night and it states that they no longer require the six months anymore! So that was great news!!
  20. I FINALLY spoke to the surgeon's office today. We made my appointment for the nutritionist, dietician, and exercise specialist for Wednesday. I am SO worried that they are going to tell me that the six months I spent with my PCP isn't going to be good enough and that I will need to do it over again! I am SOO scared of that. I also made an appointment with the psychologist, and also to have blood work done. I am nervous, and hoping that all will be well, but with my luck it won't be. With my PCP he told me to exercise, watch what I eat, and we weighed in every month that I went. For insurance reasons, I am hoping that is good enough and that I don't need to do anymore with them! Any advice would help?

    Questions?

I have completed my 6 months of medically supervised weight loss. I am weighting for my tax return so that I can go to the exercise specialist, dietician, and nutritionist. I still need to see the psychologist. I will more than likely have to go through pre-op testing again because I last did some of it on August 26. So I am really worried that this is all too good to be true right now. So with that being said, how much longer do you think it would be until I can schedule my surgery? Or at least, can anyone tell me if they were near the point that I am right now, how long it took them? I didn't think I would ever get to this point. I am really wondering though, I am currently 5'9" and I am flirting with 340lbs. I have a larger bone structure and I was wondering what a good size for me to shoot for would be. I kept saying I would love to be a size 10, but I'm wondering if that's too little. I currently wear a 24, sometimes 26 pants, and a 3x top. I also know that everyone is different. My sister had the gastric bypass back in 2000, and she was a 5x, she got down to a size 18 and looked unhealthy. I am worried that I will do that too. Any input will help right now! This is just all over the place, but I was practically typing what I was thinking at the time! Sorry!
  22. I work as a bank teller, and when I go to the drive-up window at night all I can see is my own reflection. I keep thinking to myself, OMG I look nasty! I can't wait to be able to do a lot of things! Hopefully I will be ready soon. It took me a long time to get where I am now. A lot of stress of the not so nice (this site doesn't allow the words I really want to use) boss, who told me that VSG is for the birds and I'm taking the easy way out. I can't wait to be HAPPY again!!
  23. I'm wondering if two weeks is long enough for me. I work at a bank as a teller, and I stand ALL day. So I am hoping that I can go back after two weeks.
  24. I have gone through 5 out of my 6 months of medically supervised weight loss, required by my insurance. My 5th month depressed me so bad. I gained 10 lbs. My doctor seems to think that it's because I ran out of my Water pills and at the time I was weighed, I hadn't been taking them. I am so sad, I feel like my weight loss journey (so far) has been at a stand still since August. I went to the hospital for pre-op testing. I was getting ready to do the upper GI test, and I mentioned to the nurse that I wasn't sure why I was even there because I hadn't even started the six month process (which I later discovered I had). So they called my surgeon's office and were told that I didn't need to EKG or blood work. So I have yet to have any of that done yet. I have knee pain, and it's been ongoing for about two years ago. The doctors keep telling me that 90% of the pain is caused by weight. I have been flirting with 220's - 230's. At my five month appointment I was 239. That is so depressing to me! My sixth and final appointment is the week of Christmas. I am hoping I can do better and weigh less! With the knee pain it is so hard for me to exercise. I am just feeling like the surgery is too good to be true. I don't know where I am. I still need to come up with the $420 I need for the consultations with the dietician, exercise specialist, and nutritionist. It doesn't seem like a lot of money, but it is for me unfortunately. It's too bad insurance doesn't cover that, because that's the reason I have to come up with it. I just feel like the surgery is never going to happen for me, but I still have hope. I need to see the psychologist too. And what frustrates me is that I never got any types of results back from what pre-op testing I had done. I haven't heard form the surgeons office in a long time. They kept telling me that they would be the ones to contact me. And when I try to contact them I get a voicemail. I guess in a sense I am very impatient when it comes to this, because the voicemail says that I will get a response in up to three days, and that's not good enough for me! I am so stressed and frustrated. I have asthma, and I notice that I use my inhaler a lot more now than I normally do. My mom even made a comment about how often I was using my inhaler. It is pathetic that I am using it right when I wake up in the mornings, which is something I shouldn't do. But I feel that it is contributed from the weight. I went to a concert with my sister, and her and I are both overweight, so I was leaning to the right a lot and by the time the concert was over I had horrible back pain. Needless to say those seats are not made for larger people at all. My clothes are wearing out because I refuse to buy new clothes since I plan to lose weight and I don't want to waste the money on new clothes that I am hoping to not wear for very long. I want this done and over with, NOW!! Sorry for my ranting and venting, I am done for now.
  25. I can't wait to have my surgery. I LOVE coats. That way I can find cute coats, not just the ones they happen to have in my size that are just ok. And I can buy more because the smaller sizes are cheaper.
