    Tight suttures?

Hello to everyone, longtime reader, rarely a responder. I had my VSG on Monday the 3rd of October-everthing so far has gone very smoothly, stayed in hospital until Wed. and once at home started to feel even better with yesterday, Thurs. being the best day yet. I felt wonderful and was trying to get fluids, meds and vitamins in and doing such a good job accidently took one to many vitamins at one time. All of a sudden I felt this awful wave of nausea and I must have looked bad as my husband looked worried and wanted to know what was wrong with me. Made my way to the restroom where I almost vomited-almost, just heaved an couple of good heaves and started to lose the nausea BUT at the same time the stitch in my largest incision, where the stomach is removed from felt as if it became tighter actually becoming quite uncomfortable to a point where I needed to take pain medication, I had not needed any pain medication since the evening before. Since then it hurts to stand straight up or twist as if the suture is pinching-something. I know that the sutture(s) is a dissolving sutture but my question is has anyone else experienced this or anything similar and also does anyone know just how long it takes for these suttures to dissolve. I am very uncomfortable now and have started to take pain meds again and am not able to walk as much as I was because of this. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, advice or similar stories (just so I know that I am not the only person to experience this.)
  2. Hello everyone, today I am 17 days out from being sleeved and for the most part I feel as if everything has been "typical." I am feeling some mood swings regretting my surgery when I am hungry or when I have taken one to many bites, still on the pureed stage and honestly cant imagine eating anything that isnt pureed, I feel as if it would hurt my new tummy... My concern/question is about my largest incision (the one where the stomach is removed) as I said I am 17 days out from my surgery and I still feel a lot of pulling and quit often a sharp pinching like stitches are still pulling tight, did anyone experience anything similar to this or am I the only one? I have no trouble with any of the other incisions at all just the largest one, scares me a little like either stitches are still to tight or a leak... any words of advice or similar stories would be greatly appreciated as my imagination gets carried away at times. Thanks in advance!

    Nausea after eating anything

Hey there, I am on day 23 and I was fortunate that I didnt have any troubles up to this point other than "normal" things, one thing that I had until 2 or 3 days ago was nausea whenever I would eat or drank anything, personally I had a little more trouble with drinking. If you arent getting the right amount of fluids in this may be what the trouble is, I couldnt ( and still arent able to) get enough fluids in and you may be a little dehydrated which may be causing some of your nausea. I took reglen in the hospital and when I went to my 1st week checkup and explained what was going on they put me back on it, I think I took that for about a week and quit because it made me so sleepy but I did feel a bit better after taking it, like I said about 2 or 3 days ago I noticed that the nausea wasnt anything like it had been so maybe due to the swelling and changes in your new tummy it will just take a little bit of time to work that out. I have felt my best just in the past 2 or 3 days, I am not nauseas anything like I have been and I am able to start getting in more fluids, I am only getting like 25-30oz of fluids-not even close to 64oz I am supposed to be getting and since I havent been as nauseas I am having a bit of an easier time getting in my protien, since then I am feelin less and less nausea. There is no way that I am eating some of the things that I see people are eating at 3 and 4 weeks out but I wasnt on pureed foods until my 3rd week, maybe your new tummy isnt ready for them yet. If you can handle mashed potatoes with a little gravy and chkn bouillon for added flavor that may not make you nauseas but go easy on the pureed foods, maybe your tummy is still swollen and just not ready for thicker foods just yet. Id say as long as it doesnt get worse, keep trying to get fluids in and just baby that tiny new tummy it will probably go away in a little bit more time. Hope this helps.

Sharp pains at 17 days out?

oh thanks, I was a bit concerned, thanks again i feel better as I to have the knot so that is also easing my concern on that as well!! Thanks again.
  5. Hello to everyone, I usually just read everyones posts but today I have a question, hopefully I can be put to ease. I had VSG this past monday, Oct. 3, 2011 and everything went well, with the usual soreness and tiredness I am sure, left the hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and started to feel even better once at home. Thursday was my best day since the surgery and I was feeling great, walking as much as I could getting most of my fluids in and taking meds and vitamins-I hadnt even needed any pain medicine either. I must have forgotten what I had just put my body through because as I was trying to get my last few vitamins down, without thinking I didnt give any time between the pills (they are the fairly larger vitamins through Bariatric Advantage.) Almost as soon as I got the second pill down I felt a terrible wave of nausea come over me and I must have looked bad because my husband seemed concerned wanting to know what was wrong, I felt as if I were going to vomit but I didnt, I did however heave a couple of really big heaves and finally the nausea passed but as it did the sutture that is under the largest incision, the one the stomach is removed from, felt as if it tightened tight, and every since I cant stand straight without this intense pinching feeling. I know that the sutture(s) are dissolving but does anyone know how long it takes them to dissolve or has anyone else experienced this too? I was feeling so great and now I feel so dissappointed in myself for being so careless, I know that is a small complaint compared to some but I was curious if anyone else had a similar experience. Thanks in advance.

    4 days out!

Hey me too!!! My experience was actually pretty good, other than the normal discomfort and being tired from the pain medications. Once I got home I even felt better. I was walking as much as I could because everyone said that was one of the main things to do to get back on track. I too cannot seem to get the amount of fluids that I am supposed to but I just keep trying. I havent dared to try a Protein shake, are you drinking it with water? I too have been having diarrhea, just small amounts but frequently. I have been able to tolerate Jello and popsicles as of today. Yesterday I was feeling so good that I accidently over did it taking my meds, fluids and Vitamins, I took one of my vitamins and without thinking took another right after, all of a sudden I felt this horrible wave of nasuea and went to the restroom because I felt as if I was about to vomit, I fortunately did not but I did heave pretty good a couple of times and since then I feel as if the sutture in my largest incision (where the stomach was removed) has been pulled very tight and it is causes some very uncomfortable discomfort. Do you feel any pulling when you stand or twist? I had not needed any pain meds since the night before until that happened, now I am taking them every 4 hours again. My dr was Dr. Oldham out of Baptist Hospital East in Louisville KY. Were you there as well?
  7. Hello all, I have been on this forum many times as a reader only so here goes. I have just finished everything that is required for VSG, having a EGD done on tues am, after that just need insurance approval, during my 6 month diet i actually lost and gained with the last months weight up 10 pounds from 6 month diet start. During this six months our home was flooded during the flooding back in april and we were displaced and it was hard to eat healthy and stay focused due to having to eat all meals out in addition to being stressed to the max, our home is in the flood zone and we were expected to have 6-10 foot of river Water in our basement (GROSS) I did gain then, also my meds for high blood pressure started to cause my legs and ankles to swell, and i mean my feet, ankles and calves were all the same size from my knee down, extremely painful and difficult to exercise, i didnt gain but didnt lose either. During my last 6 month I had all my blood work done and it was found that my thyroid levels have gotten higher and my primary care provider said there was no way that i would lose weight with that going on and not being treated correctly, all of this of course is dictated in my records. My question is this: has anyone had insurance (or weight loss surgeon) denie surgery for a weight gain of 10 pound?

    6 month diet, gained weight

Thanks, my doctor also said that she doubted that I would be turned down because of this but you never know with these things. I dont want to jeapordize any chance of getting the sleeve done, I have been so patient, and tried so hard just to have gained-again. Same old same old I guess, thanks for responding like you did, I do feel better about it, if it was so easy I wouldnt need this help in the first place right? I also have insurance through my school system-Humana so I hope its the same thing-it was the information I recieved from the surgeons office so that may not even be a requirement from the insurance company, I can only wait and see...
