Advice please..Supervised Diet
ready4changein2011 replied to ready4changein2011's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks ev1 for your response the information is helpful I'm guessing that every insurance is different. Will be losing 1-2 lbs a month, so I can be approved for insurance. Sounds rather stupid to be put on a diet and can't lose much weight. Who figures? Good luck to all on your journeys. -

From a medical stand point, I would seek medical attention you do not want this to turn into something big by waiting. It could be serious, if it concerns you alot seek medical attention, You don't want to have an infection and not have it treated asap, being freshly post-op. I'm more than certain that the ER can reach your physician although its the weekend. I also agree with keeping the area clean and dry. Goodluck, keep us posted. -

PSYCH EVALUATION
ready4changein2011 replied to thatchick_j's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that they report everything that you all discussed in regards to lapband, committment, psych issues, alcohol, drugs, etc. I will not be able to get a copy of my report until monday to tell you more. He asked about my support system, meds taking, weight loss programs attempted before, do I know wht the lap band is and how I will be affected by it, stuff like tht. But I did do a questionairre of about 500-600 questions. My visit total time was 1 hr and 10-15 minutes of that I spent talking with the psychologist. My psychologist was linked to my physician so that made it easier for me, I did not have to find one on my own or take in papers. So, he automatically knows wht they request of him to do. As long as ur comitted, I think u will be fine, it was a breeze for me.Goodluck. -

Bborderline BMI and 3 month pre-op diet any suggestions???
ready4changein2011 replied to abqann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same boat. My BMI is 42.3 I need to stay above 40. I lost 10 lbs and gained most of it back. I have only one comorbid high blood pressure. I need 2 comorbids to qualify at a BMI of 35. So I weigh daily so at my next visit I can be at least 2 lbs smaller. I have a total window of 12lbs for 5 mths. Thiis is freaking me out I'm scared. They also suggested I not lose too much weight or insurance will deny. So I'm making better choices in food and exercise is minimal. I cut down on the protein shakes because I lost that 10lbs in one week using protein.About the first weight I don't think my insurance use that one, that's why I can't lose too much weight. Good luck. Keep us posted. -
Go to the ER now. Your situation is very dangerous, you do not want to aspirate and die in your sleep. This is a true emergency, seek medical attention. I'm a nurse so I'm giiving this too you from the medical stand point. Hope all goes well. I will be prayiing for you. Keep us informed. Take care.

ready4changein2011 replied to k9momma56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for letting me know your feelings, like you I'm a nurse and have been considering backing out. Although, I know that I really need this surgery. I'm staying positive, right now I'm doing my 6 mth supervised diet but trying not too lose too much weight so far I've lost 10 lbs and gained 3 back. I have a window of 12 lbs or my insurance want pay so trying to lose 2lbs a mth. The Protein shakes have worked very well and not as hungry. Since I've lost 10lbs in one week with the Protein shakes, I'm thinking I will do really well with the lapband. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey. Thanks again. -
Had my psych eval today and the questionairre was over 500. The things they ask really does not focus on weight loss. I did pass, just glad that"s over. It took about an hour and I was out of there. It seems that if I had no suicidal tendencies or depression it was a go. Once I told him I was a nurse he was done. He did manage to ask what other diets I've tried and what the lap band was and how I think it could help me. Most important why do I want the surgery? Afterwards I kept thinking bout those silly questions can't get them out my head. Anyone else with this problem? To all who have the psych eval left its a breeze don't worry bout it.

Should I gain 15 lbs to get the band?
ready4changein2011 replied to judyk's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would gain the weight also, keep ur money. After all its only 15 pounds and u will probably lose that during the pre-op diet. By then u will have been approved by the insurance. -

New & started 6 mth supervised diet
ready4changein2011 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello all, I am new to this site and was referred by my pt advocate(who has done very well with the lapband). I have started my journey into being a healthier me. UHC requires the 6 mth supervised diet and I have done my 1st visit already. So far I have attended my seminar, had my consultation and met my nutritionist. This has worked out well for me so far because they do everything in the office so, the only thing I need to do outside of them is my psych eval. I'm trying to get this setup quickly since some insurance ask for it at the 3 mth mark (per pt advocate). I was instructed to start a low carb, high protein diet and exercise. Current BMI 42.7, qualifying BMI >40. Needing some advice on: - best protein powders out there? - if I go under my BMI, do I still qualify through my insurance? I have previously lost 80 lbs only to have gained it all back and some. I'm just tired of the yo-yo dieting, plus now the high blood pressure has returned and I'm taking 3 meds. Hopefully I will lose just enough to keep me in the qualifying range but I'm scared, I really wants this surgery. I am a mother of 6 and I want to live a long healthy life. Losing weight has never really been a problem for me, so I should be okay with lapband, gaining it back o the otherhand is what I'm dealing with. The weight doesn't stay off, this is very discouraging to me and I'm unhappy. I'm at 256.8 and 5'5, tired and need some motivation, my goal wt is 150 lbs, that's 106.8 lbs to lose. I do believe this is possible through lapband. The only thing that gives me hope, is my mother and daughters, who supports me 100%. Everyone else appears to give me grief. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks -
