  1. I have my appt with Dr. Friedman the first week of Sept. I attended the informational seminar. The physicians office verified my insurance United Health Care covers the procedure. I have to do a six month weight loss monitored by a physician. Luckly I have already been seeing my physician for weight loss the last three months. I have to have a BMI of 40 or over and mine is 41 and I have to show five years of being overweight of at least a 35 BMI. All of these I already qualify for. I also have recently within the last month been diagnosed with high colesterol, high blood pressure and swelling/water retention. I am only thirty and am falling apart. So here is the begining of my journey. I hope that I am not like many that are declined the first time around. I am happy to complete the physicians monitored program because I realize that I have to make major life changes in my life to be successful. So here I go.....

    First Steps

So I have made the decision to have lap band. I called my insurance and it is covered, not sure the percentage as of yet. I have attended the seminar and have my first appt with Dr. So crossing my fingers that my insurance will approve it. My biggest fear is that it wont happen for me. I cannot afford to pay out of pocket for the surgery. I also cannot afford not to make a major change in my life. My insurance requires a BMI of 40 or above, which I have, five years of obesity (also have). They do not require six months as far as I know, but do require a psyh-eval. Has anyone had issues where they meet all of the criteria yet the insurance denied it?
