  1. I looked into the Lynx surgery. It's a magnetic ring around the sphincter but every surgeon he consulted said the full bypass is the way to go for me.
  2. I had the sleeve and then had horrible acid reflux and found out the sleeve was stretched. I had the mini gastric bypass because I was told that would fix it. Well it didn't. I have even worse reflux and found out my esophageal sphincter is not closing. Medication does nothing. After extensive testing I'm being told I need a full gastric bypass. I'm waiting to see if insurance will pay this time. They refused to pay for a revision last time stating my bmi wasn't high enough and I had no co-morbidities. My surgeon is confident he can get it approved so now I'm just waiting to see if it's covered. My first 2 surgeries were in Mexico.

    Plastics in Mexico

I'm thinking of using Dr. Sauceda and was wondering how well you healed and if everything worked out well for you. I see people post things right after surgery and they are happy but then later develop complications or don't get the results they thought they would. I'm just making sure to cover all my bases before I make that final decision. Thanks.

    Scared about MGB, any insight??

I had no reflux at all after my revision to mgb from the sleeve for the first 11 months and now I'm having some. So there definitely is the chance it can happen after some time.

    Mini gastric bypass

I had a revision to the mini gastric bypass from the sleeve on March 31, 2016. I went to Mexico. I was scheduled with Dr. Illan but due to an emergency that morning (his appendix ruptured) Dr. Zavalza stepped in and did my surgery. No problems and I'm about 8 pounds from goal but smaller in size than I thought I would be.

    Scared about MGB, any insight??

I was scheduled with Dr. Illan but he had an emergency surgery himself that morning and gave me the option to fly home and come back later or have Dr. Zavalza do my surgery. I'd already taken the time off work and knew I couldn't come back so I trusted him that Dr. Zavalza would do a good job. 11 months out and so far so good other than a little heart burn or acid reflux lately.

    MGB vs mini RNY

Dr. Illan posted on another post here that there is no such thing as a mini rny, there is the mini gastric bypass (mgb). people are using their own terms and not medical terms.

    Scared about MGB, any insight??

I've had both the sleeve and the revision to mgb in Tijuana. With the sleeve my father was so worried about me going there (I was 42 years old) that he went with me. He was very impressed with how clean everything was and how well I was taken care of. He and my daughter were also very well cared for. So when I returned for the mgb he felt ok about me going there again. My fiancé had refused to go the first time because he was so worried and didn't want me doing it there but he went the second time after hearing how great it was. Do what's best for you and don't let anyone stand in your way. This is your life and your health. If you have acid reflux go with the mgb and if you have a good Dr. in the U.S. he will support you. If he doesn't, get a new Dr.

    80 pounds or so

I've lost 97 and I'm getting consultations now. They are suggesting everything from tummy tuck and breast lift with augmentation to lower body lift with breast lift and augmentation. The prices in the U.S. and Mexico are both so high but I will find a way to get it done. If I were rich I'd probably get a face lift eventually and my arms are a little flabby but not as bad as most. I work out pretty hard at least 3 times a week.
  10. I was scheduled with Dr. Illan and had really researched him and his patients all love him. But the morning of my surgery Dr. Illan's appendix ruptured and he had emergency surgery. He gave me the option to fly home and come back later or he had another Dr. who was willing to do my surgery. I trusted him and let Dr. Zavalza do my mgb that day and I have had no problems. I would trust either Dr. I do know Dr. Illan is very good about being in contact with his patients and he is my go to person if I have any questions. He is awesome.
  11. I had the sleeve in 2011 and lost 88 pounds. Then I gained about 40 and had really bad acid reflux and could not lose the weight. So I went back to Mexico in March 2016 and had the revision to mgb. I will say the sleeve was a breeze and I felt like I didn't even have surgery. The mgb was not bad, just a little discomfort. The main difference I noticed was with the sleeve I had plenty of energy and with the mgb I was really tired for about 2 or 3 weeks. I'm a police officer at a hospital/university and I walk several miles a day and frequently have to fight or restrain mental or drugged out patients. I took 3 weeks off with the mgb and I was fine. If you have an office job you could probable take 2 weeks off and be fine. My starting weight with the sleeve was 257 and it was 199 with the mgb. I'm currently about 160. My goal was 150 but I work out a lot and I've went from a size 16 to a size 8/10 since the mgb so I'm pretty happy if I stay where I am.

    MO - Kansas City

If you have any questions or would like to meet for coffee sometime let me know. I'm off Thurs., Fri, and Sat. and usually off work by 4pm. Even though I've had the sleeve and a revision, I still like to meet with people who've had weight loss surgery because it's good to share experiences.

Need Advice for Weight Loss Surgery

I had the sleeve in Nov 2011 and had a revision to mini gastric bypass in March 2016. I needed the revision because my sleeve had stretched and I had a lot of acid reflux. I originally lost 88 pounds with the sleeve but then regained about 36 pounds. I wish I had done the rny or mini bypass from the start and only needed one surgery. Having gone through two surgeries I would never recommend the sleeve to anyone. I've talked to too many people that had to have a revision. But ultimately it's your decision and whatever your surgeon recommends. Good luck.

    plastics questions

Hello, for anyone who's had a tummy tuck and got insurance to pay, I'd really like to know how much trouble you went through to get it paid. Also I'd love suggestions for plastic surgeons in Mexico in case mine doesn't pay. I have bcbs of Kansas which says they may cover a panniculectomy but the surgeons around here are saying it is rarely ever approved. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

    MO - Kansas City

Since it looks like no one ever lead this group and got it going, I would be interested in leading or co-leading it. Let me know if you'd like to schedule a meeting in the Kansas City, MO/KS area. I know of a great coffee shop in Lee's Summit that serves (or used to when we met there) Protein drinks both hot and cold. I've had both vertical sleeve and mini bypass surgeries so I have a lot of info I could pass along and help anyone who has questions.

Tummy Tuck and Inner Thigh Lift

@spiceyfrog how did you get insurance to pay for most of the tummy tuck? I have blue cross and blue shield but I just made a few appointments with plastic surgeons this month and they all said it's almost impossible to get insurance to pay. One flat out refuses to even contact my insurance because he says they say they will pay but they don't.
  17. 12 weeks post op from mini bypass. Haven't had labs done yet but I feel great and have had no problems. I was a revision so I think my weight loss has been slow but I've lost a lost of inches and I'm down from a tight size 16 to a 12. No regrets and wish I'd done this instead of the sleeve the first time.
  18. @@stacyrg2 I 100% agree with you that I wish I had done the bypass of mini bypass in the first place and not the sleeve. I never would have had to go through a second surgery. Oh well, better late than never.

    MGB Information

I had the sleeve to mini bypass revision on March 31, 2016. The recovery was a breeze with the sleeve but a little more difficult with the mgb. It still was not bad and totally worth it. It got rid of my acid reflux and even though I'm losing weight slowly, that was expected (I was 199 before the revision). I'm getting measured and body scanned every two weeks and I'm losing inches and gaining muscle so I'm not too worried about what the scale says. I wish I had gone with the mgb or bypass in the first place.
  20. The mini bypass is a simpler safer surgery than the full bypass with the same or better results long term. Instead of a pouch the mini uses a sleeve and only one anastomosis instead of two. So you get the restriction and less absorption
  21. I originally had the sleeve and regained about 35 pounds and had a lot of acid reflux, before and after the sleeve. I just had revision to mini bypass on March 31. If I had the chance to do it over again I would definitely choose the bypass the first time and not mess with the sleeve. The sleeve works great for some people but for me it just didn't work or last like I had hoped it would. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
  22. Just an update: I had my mini bypass but my surgeon had an emergency that day, his appendix ruptured and had to have surgery himself. Dr. Zivalza stepped in and did my surgery. The first couple of weeks I was sore and really tired but I was able to go back to work after just two weeks. I lost 17 pounds right away (one week preop and two weeks post op) and then hit a stall after week two. Week 3 and 4 post op I've only lost about 2 pounds. But I'm losing inches and feeling better every day.
  23. I was sleeved in 2011 and after losing 88 pounds I gained about 30. An egd revealed my sleeve was stretched and I had a lot of acid reflux. I just had the revision to mini bypass in March. I wish I had done this from the beginning and not the sleeve. For some people the sleeve works great but for me it was not enough and if I had it to do over again I would do the mini or full bypass from the beginning. Good luck with your decision.

    Stretched Pouch

I love how people say the sleeve doesn't stretch but I have a written report from a weight loss surgeon who did my EGD that clearly says my sleeve was stretched on the top and the bottom and needed a revision surgery. Just because yours hasn't stretched doesn't mean someone else's didn't. Every sleeve is different and not every surgery was done the exact same way.

    Stretched Pouch

I had an egd done about 2 1/2 years after my sleeve and was told it was stretched. I suspect it stretched about a year post op as that's when I stopped losing weight and noticed I could eat more than before. I just had a revision to mini bypass and I'm now 5 days post op. After my sleeve stretched I had acid reflux and never could lose any more and then I gained about 30 pounds.
