Solid food on hold - indefinitely?
FatJuicyMouse replied to FatJuicyMouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your words of encouragement, fellers! I never heard of a flipper! How much do those run? Funny the dentist never mentioned that even knowing I would have to wait months to get teeth to put on the post in my mouth. Do you keep it in all day long or just when you eat? My implant was supposed to be today but I had to cancel since I am just now getting some lab bills from testing for my surgery so I can't afford it now. Maybe if I get a good tax refund next year... -
Carbs and chewable supplements
FatJuicyMouse replied to FatJuicyMouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maddie, what does that calcium powder taste like? I quit taking my supplements for two days and lost a pound each of those days. I took them again and gained a pound back! This is really making me crazy. I tried to take a multi pill again today and it tried to come back up again. -
Carbs and chewable supplements
FatJuicyMouse posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually get around 80 carbs a day and more than half of that comes from chewable multis & calcium and glucosamine liquids. I can take itty bitty pills and capsules but anything larger comes back up. Cutting them up doesn't help and if I crushed them, I would have to put them in something like SF pudding or applesauce to somewhat hide the taste. Which means more carbs. I have gained and lost the same two pounds for weeks now and have tried to shake up my diet by going up and down with calories but the carbs have to stay over 50 even if I ate nothing but pure protein. I alternate very light weight lifting days with varying types of aerobics. My measurements have NOT decreased, in fact, they have increased in some areas. When I lost weight on Medifast a few years ago, I lost very well by staying under 100 carbs (and was always hungry!) and, when the scale refused to budge, I could look forward to a new dress size. I feel like I am losing out on the fastest weight loss period after surgery since I am only a couple of months out and I am getting supremely frustrated. I know everyone loses at their own pace but they DO lose!!! And I understand stalls but never expected to be in one 4 out of the 9 weeks after surgery! -
Gaining and losing the same 2 pounds
FatJuicyMouse replied to FatJuicyMouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did measure last week and found I went UP in some places so I quit in the middle. Kinda like putting a hand over your face at a horror movie... I did notice I don't have to have the seat so far back I can barely reach the gas pedal. I have a little bend in my knee now. The old man has to put the seat back before he even gets in the car or he will have his nose in the windshield. Just wait until I get to my goal waist! -
Gaining and losing the same 2 pounds
FatJuicyMouse posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost about 21 pounds since surgery, 30 if you count pre op. Give or take the two silly assed pounds that keep doing an encore. This has been going on for two and a half weeks. If you average out the weight loss, I have lost a teeny bit over 2 pounds a week. And this is supposed to be the time of the fastest weight loss? It slows down from here? I am into my third month and I am starting to panic here. I don't feel any restriction when I eat but have realized that early on and measure and log every morsel of food that goes in my mouth. I wasn't given a specific carb or calorie guideline or even a minimum protein requirement. I try to get 60-80 gm of protein and usually get under 70 gm of carbs (30 gm of which are from the stupid chewable supplements!). The carbs I get are from dairy and whatever is found in green beans and cooked spinach and the occasional half cup of blueberries in my yogurt. I haven't given in to my chocolate addiction because I know that is a slippery slope for me and I am really trying to ignore the onslaught of goodies that are eaten in front of me. I dropped two dress sizes in a hurry and then stayed in one for five weeks. I just got down to the next size but only in stretch jeans. No stretch = no button (or even a meeting of the minds!) I have assaulted my body by preparing for solid food by going to the dentist and getting my teeth ready to chew. That kinda backfired since I lost all my molars on one side after already having only one upper and one lower that meets on the other side. I had to have my teeth scaled (one step away from root canal) and then had two teeth pulled in the space of two weeks. Maybe after I already went under the knife for the sleeve my body decided it has had enough abuse? -

I guess I am whining because when I had my stall at two weeks out, I DID lose inches, mostly from my boobies, but it was a loss. Maybe I should quit whining before I lose another ten from there -
I am not the type that can happily make two or three different dinners for each picky taste in the house and I have been in a quandary trying to figure out how to feed someone whose four food groups are potato chips, donuts, cookies, and sometimes what the wife cooks. He does not do veggies unless you count potatoes and corn with an occasional rice dish thrown in. And ramen noodles. He does not take kindly to the sneaking veggies in every day dishes thing. He can taste a molecule of cauliflower in mashed taters. I no longer make my usual lasagna, shepherd's pie, hamburger helper and nice fattening goodies. Especially since only one person would be eating it and I only have so much room in my freezer. I want to make the lovely dishes in my WLS recipe books but they call for things neither of us like. I am getting tired of tuna fish and canned chicken and turkey. I can take out some hamburger for me when I make his dinner but that gets old too. He has already gone through all the frozen pizza and hungry man dinners I bought for after my surgery and is now expectantly waiting for me to cook something. I feel like driving him 20 miles to the nearest fast food and saying take your pick! Help!

What to cook for a picky SO
FatJuicyMouse replied to FatJuicyMouse's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Cook? Cook??? He can fry hamburger in a pan with no lid on the highest heat. That is the extent of his cooking and it takes me two days to clean the grease from everything in a six foot radius. No wonder granny never let Jethro in the kitchen. I guess I can go back to cooking to please me and let him fend for himself. Maybe if that is all there is, he might start eating healthy food! Yeah, and we will have world peace starting tomorrow... Thanks, ladies -
What to cook for a picky SO
FatJuicyMouse replied to FatJuicyMouse's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Yeah, Tiffy, back when I was cooking for six, I decided to cook to please myself. Now that I myself am eating more plain food, I have no idea what to cook for my husband. He waited 13 years to tell me he didn't like noodles! Chili does sound good but I don't know if I could take it if both of us had it the same night. Wish I could get him to eat white chili. One of the biggest arguments we ever had was shortly after we got married and I put salad on his plate. He will eat it when we go out but not at home. Go figure. He is a type 1 diabetic and has the worst diet I have ever seen anyone older than a teenager eat. And he weighs 135. I got him to eat whole grains after slowly adding them over five years but veggies will never pass his lips. I feel like I am letting him down if I go back to cooking to please me and keeping in the bounds of my diet, but he IS a big boy and can always have a hot dog or ramen noodles. Or other garbage... -
Sizzilng September Sleevers Monday Check In
FatJuicyMouse replied to Labrys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am losing .2 pounds here and there but last night I measured for the first time in two or three weeks. I have lost a few inches altogether until you get to my chest. I lost TEN inches. I measured four times to be sure. I have to lean over a just a little to see my feet but my belly is now bigger than my boobs! I only lost an inch and a half around the middle so I can't drop down to the pant size my hips and thighs say I should be wearing. My pants look like the ones my dad used to call 30 day shitters. mc hammer pants! -
My Mom is considering the sleeve...
FatJuicyMouse replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had this surgery two weeks after my 55th birthday. I had diabetes that I took two insulins and an oral med for, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, asthma, fibromyalgia, IBS, etc. etc. etc. I felt about 80. Since surgery I take no meds for diabetes or blood pressure and feel younger than I have in years. Not only will I live longer without the co-morbidities, I will ENJOY that longer life! My son wanted to have the surgery as soon as I mentioned I was going to have it and I did worry more for him. I think it is because we know what we ourselves can handle but have no idea the strengths within our loved ones. If my kids worried about the outcome of my surgery, they never mentioned it and I appreciated that! -
Sex after Surgery?

Solid food on hold - indefinitely?
FatJuicyMouse replied to FatJuicyMouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, Jordien! (Jordie N? Please correct me!) I am trying to decide if I should attempt some kind of solid food for two weeks and then go back to liquids after I get my teeth pulled. I don't think I am gonna want to chew anything at all for at least a week after that! (just how long can you live on a purely liquid diet, anyway?) It's funny, my mom had all her own teeth when she died and my dad's dentist had been working a decade on pulling his teeth and putting in dentures before he died. I got his cowlicks, funny looking pinky toes, and inability to suffer fools gladly. Guess I got his teeth, too! -
Solid food on hold - indefinitely?
FatJuicyMouse replied to FatJuicyMouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sitting here trying to decipher my treatment plan. I know my bridge hurts enough just from them poking around it today I am going to let them pull those two teeth in two weeks while they do the root canal on that side. Then I go in two weeks later to do the other side. After I get those teeth pulled, I might be able to make my old partial work without putting too much strain on the two molars he wants to put crowns on. Once he does put the crowns on, it won't work any more. But since he told me that the tooth on the other side the partial attaches to is weakened, I am now afraid to put it in there! Maybe I can stick it in there long enough to eat something and then yank it right back out. I don't remember how long I have to wait to put the implant in but I know it has to heal before they put a partial plate on it. So the tooth extraction has to heal before I can get the post they put the teeth on and the post has to heal before you can put teeth on it! He told me I could put individual implants for each tooth so I won't need dentures. For $3000 a tooth. I dipped heavily into a retirement account to get my surgery and now I will have to wipe it out to take care of my teeth and it will only cover half the costs! It's hell not having insurance!! Good thing I LIKE tuna and chicken salad! (but for how long??) -
Found the manufacturers site but I am sure you can find it cheaper somewhere else. This little toy got me through a lot and now I have lost the darned thing. Spendy, but worth it to me. https://www.tanglecreations.com/categories.php?ID=2

Oh, sweetie, I really feel for ya! I quit cold turkey and gained 50 pounds. I had to find something to do with my hands, especially after meals, when I missed that cancer stick the most. I had beads and strings that I fiddled with. I found a toy online called a tangle for little kids and for Alzheimer's patients that I got for my mom because she was fidgety. She didn't use it but I find it very comforting. If I can find the link to where i got it (have changed computers so my bookmarks are scattered hither and yon) I will PM you. If you are interested, that is! Linda

Expected a stall - but a gain???
FatJuicyMouse replied to PamelaAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, I gained. And I still haven't lost all that I gained. I stalled the second week after surgery and I keep going up and down a pound. I am just over a month out and I lost about 8 pounds the two weeks before surgery and around 11 after. Sure not what I was expecting! -
September Sleevers YAY The party is ON
FatJuicyMouse replied to Labrys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use protein powders and always put more water or liquid in that it requires. Since everything is still so sweet to me, it tastes okay that way. I put crystal light in 32 ounces of water instead of 16 and make all kinds of herbal teas, hot and cold. I found some low cal spiced cider and swiss miss hot choc that has only 25 calories and it add it to warm skim milk. I used to be able to drink lots of plain water but can't seem to take it after four or five cups and have to have a change of pace. I found crystal light clones in wally world that had orange juice and apple juice flavors. I really like those since I haven't had juice since I was diagnosed with diabetes seven years ago. Yum! Sometimes I have to visualize all that water flushing fat out and it starts to taste a little better. Not much but enough to get another cup or two down -
Sleeping Patterns Post-Op
FatJuicyMouse replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the opposite problem. It takes a little longer to go to sleep and I wake up earlier than before (even earlier than the old man's alarm that goes off every 10 minutes for an hour). I am sleepier during the day too. Even the one rare night I didn't fight constantly with my cpap mask, I was pooped the next morning. Finally being able to put a protein drink in my coffee in the morning has helped immensely. I am like that guy on the commercial - just don't freakin talk to me until I have had my coffee! I have tried to avoid daytime naps but I have fallen asleep in my chair more than once. Until the snoring wakes me up, anyway. I do have one incision site that is really bothering me so maybe that is what is keeping me up. -
Lower left - pain
FatJuicyMouse replied to Jordien's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As all the other pains on the left subsided, I have one that increased and gives me problems when I exert myself or bend over too far. Sometimes i get a pang just sitting here. It hurt bad enough that I mentioned it at my two week appointment and they did a cbc and an x-ray in case there was an infection. They didn't find anything but said if it got worse to come back in. It hasn't gotten worse, but it just won't go away. Feels kinda like a stitch in my side like i used to get in PE class except it is on the left and not the right. If it weren't for that and one incision site that is taking forever to heal, I wouldn't even know i had surgery! -
Sizzilng September Sleevers Monday Check In
FatJuicyMouse replied to Labrys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My stall finally broke this morning after I had way too many carbs and over 1,000 calories two days ago. I lost two pounds. Well, four pounds if you count the two pounds I went up last week. I am wearing clothes I ain't seen in years! Good thing I am a pack rat. I am kind of a size 22 right now and I have clothes that go down to 14. I think I have a bag of 12's around here too. By the time I am down that far, I can actually find something in the thrift shops to wear for a while until they outgrow me! Today I even found a drawer full of clothes that I couldn't wear in August that are too big now. I bundled up all the sweatpants, even the ones that would fit, and put them in the donation pile. I will not wear sweat pants in public again! -
Tried some chili.. waiting to see how my stomach feels!
FatJuicyMouse replied to Jordien's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just got back from the pizza party. Took a baggie with my nectar fuzzy navel and put it in some unsweetened tea and watched my son's in-law's talk amongst themselves. My husband and I wound up at different tables so I got a little exercise in by twiddling my thumbs and sighing deeply. After the presents were opened and the cake was cut, my husband and I escaped. The birthday girl barely noticed but at least I got to hold and play with the grandSON. Didn't feel tempted by anything but I was hungry when I left. Or my version of hungry. When my blood sugar drops, I know it's time to eat. So, we dropped by the grocery store and stocked up on stuff. The one store that sold my beloved greek yogurt has apparently quit carrying it and I was so craving it! They had the Dannon brand but, yuck. I got another brand and hope it is as good as oikos and brown cow and fage. probably not! At least I got the last unavoidable social obligation of the year over with! -
September Sleevers YAY The party is ON
FatJuicyMouse replied to Labrys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still haven't lost the weight I gained last Monday so my net loss after surgery is 11 pounds at three and a half weeks. I have gone from a 26 to a 22 since I started my pre op diet August 30th so I guess I am doing something right. I try to get up to a mile a day of walking but it is so hard. I live in the country where the edge of the road is less than a foot wide and there is a steep drop-off to the ditch so walking on the pavement isn't feasible. I do laps in the pasture but it is the most uneven and rough place to walk I have ever been on - besides my actual yard that is. And it doesn't help that the only walkin shoes are those tone up your butt ones with the rounded soles so I spend my entire walk looking at my feet so I won't fall on my not so toned butt. My shoulders are killing me after four laps (.8 miles) I have to quit whether I want to or not. I have several exercise machines but every single one hurts my feet before I even get going good and I have to hop off. At least the surgery helped my IBS enough I don't have to sprint to the potty after 10 minutes. Hard to get there in time when you are a football field length away! -

Oh, and I keep forgetting to mention with the chili, the only problem I had was planning a motorcycle ride to the middle of nowhere the next day. No need for extra fiber that day!!
