    February 2007 bandsters!

Thanks for the feed back. I find if I eat slower and talk more then I eat less. That's pretty hard for me being the introvert, but I find if I eat with someone at lunch instead of at my desk, I slow down a lot more and tend to sort of play and pick at my food instead of eating, so net I eat the smaller amount. First fill is scheduled for April 4th, then I go back every two weeks until mid May while my Dr. is trying to get the band to the right place. I have the larger band and he said it takes a little more adjusting to get the restriction to the right place where he wants it. On a completly different note I had a NSV already that almost had me doing cartwheels this morning. I know it sounds lame but big to me. I was acutally able to buy clothes at Wal-mart and they fit. It was the largest size they carry, 3X mens, but none the less it fits. It has bugged me for years to not be able to buy what I call yard clothes or play clothes like tee shirst and stuff from discount stores like Wallyworld and such. Just seems so unfair I have to go to a speciality store to buy a tee-shirt to mow the yard in. So anyway, it was a huge victory for me this morning!

I finally got to start the gym routine now that I am two weeks post op. I am starting to get a lot hungrier now than right after but hoping the excercise addition will make up for that. Not that I can still eat a lot, no where near pre band of course, but still takes more than I think it should to feel full. Normal??

Bill that is an awesome loss. I will be thrilled if I get 75 pounds off in 6 months. I lost 18 pounds in two weeks between surgery date weight and the 2 week post op. That was encouraging as all get out, but I realize unrealistic to expect ever again. Funny you mentioned Lifetime Fitness. We just joined the one in Kansas this weekend. Very cool place. Did you do the nutritional evaluation they try to push on you? I just sort of grinned when the rep was telling us about that part.

Have you guys started a work out routine post op and how long after did you wait before you starte lifting? Did you see a pick up in weight loss again when you added it back?
  5. Just found this thread. This is awesome there is a place on here for those with larger starting numbers. I was just banded on 2/27 in Kansas City. I a guy and about 5'11" and my highest weight was 400. That is what I was when I went for my first consult in Jan 07 with the Dr. First post op was today and I have lost 29 so far. 18 of those just since surgery. Whoever wrote the thing about the egg and mayo and the experience, I was rolling. I am sooooooooooo there with you.

Had my first post op appointment today, down 29 pounds from initial consult, 18 from the day of surgery which was less than two weeks ago. WOOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!! Also he moved me on to being able to eat other foods. I am so tired of soup. Lunch was great today, I actually got to chew something and have texture again.
  8. I was drinking 6 20oz bottles of diet coke a day. I know. When I went to the siminiar about the surgery and it was mentioned I decided to give it up then to see if I could do it. The first week was hard but I suddenly lost all my night time munchies and sweet cravings. Glad I did it. I feel so much better not drinking it. They totally suck us in with it being called Diet but the side effects are very detremental.

It has been so long since I have seen a waist band size starting with a 4 that I will be thrilled to buy the first pair of 48's.

just a quick question, what was the top pant size you guys started at? Just out of curiosity how quickly did you drop as well. I started with "extra waste band" 56's. But only 1.5 week post op and can do plain 54 with no problems. in fact the others are sort of falling off. Jonathan
  11. Well I just did this a week ago so it is still pretty vivid in my memory. I remember waking up to people yelling my name and telling me to wake up. I was very out of it and they had put my C-PAP machine on me while I was in recovery. As soon as I was awake I remember I knew my stomach area hurt and I could feel there was pain there, but I certainly didn't understand how much. Once I was in my room is when I had the SERIOUS pain, but one morphine shot and I was good from there with nothing but the nauesua stuff. JBT

congrats. I have to say my experience was a bit different. I don't get to go to xray until tomorrow. i can only have hard candy to suck on. And I have to stay overnight.
  13. Still at the hospital but thought I would share that I did make it through it. The whole needle thing had me so aprehensive. But the pain post op far outweighs the pre op IV. I just had no clue. At least I didn't have to be awake for the op stuff. That IV junk is the pitts. Necessary evil I suppose. Jonathan (JBT)

I finally made it. I was banded this morning. Love the hospital has wireless internet access. It hurts a lot but I did it. That was a huge hurdle. First day of the rest of my life!!! Jonathan (JBT)

:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: I was banded this morning. Still at the hospital, thank G-D for wireless connections right! Not doing too bad. Still a bit sore but it is getting better. Jonathan (JBT)
  16. I was reading somewhere of a person who refered to her band as "Ethel". I thought it was a great idea and have been trying to come up with a name for it before I go in for the surgery. Anyone else named yours or have some good suggestions? JBT
  17. jbtullis

    Have you named your band?

I was thinking of calling it Bertha but the more I think about it I feel like I should wait until we get to know each other before I give it a name. I love lap dance. That is still cracking me up. JBT
  18. I had my pre-op hospital appointment on Friday 2/18. Suregery date is scheduled for 2/27. I have to say that while it wasn't anything abnormal it certainly took a lot longer than I expected. That and it took them three times to find a vein to get blood out of. They ended up in my hand, not fun! Hoping when it gets surgery time the IV will not be that painful but I think I may have my rose colored glasses on. JBT

Go for pre-op tomorrow at the hospital. Not sure exactly what to expect there, hopefully nothing too horrible. I have "needlephobia" so hope they are good conversationalist to keep my mind off it. Anyone had any maitneance medicines you had to change? Talked to my regular Dr. and she thinks we should be ok at first but monitor it as the weight goes down. Just wondering. JBT

I don't even want to go down the "paper panties" trail. I could do with out that mental picture all together!!!! or thought of dealing with them for that matter. On another thread that was a specific topic with the ladies not wanting the male doc there.... to me, whatever, lets just do this and move on the weight loss portion JBT

So probably a stupid question. Were you responsible for shaving the surgery area or did the hospital as part of the surgery? JBT

PAX10 I am scheduled for surgery on 2/27. I have the pre-ops stuff starting next week. However I had to do self pay since my company has an exclusion for all barriatric surgery. Figures. So for me the process was pretty fast. I know the ladies in the office over there are pretty kick butt on the insurance stuff. If you check out his site in their forums there is a lot more detail.
