    Water while working out

I'm 3 and a half weeks out and I hike 2-3 miles everyday now....and I'm downing at least 20 oz in that time. I've noticed I don't drink any differently now than I did pre surgery....restriction only comes with full liquids/food.
  2. My surgeon told me that she would be performing a leak test during surgery and that I may, or may not have the barium swallow the following day. She said that when the sleeve was new, it was common practice to do both tests but it is becoming more common to not do it. I ended up having to do the barium swallow (which made me throw up) but I was told at my post op appt that my surgeon's group (there are 5 surgeons in the group) changed the protocol the week after my surgery and they are no longer performing the barium swallow on day two as long as all goes well during surgery.
  3. Hi, I'm a recovered bulimic and anorexic and am now two weeks post op. It has been almost 15 years since I dealt with my eating disorders and learned new coping skills. My concern for you is that you will become anorexic after surgery. Eating disorders always start out as a means to lose weight but they are in fact psychological disorders. I used both to avoid dealing with the death of my mom and sister. Surgery will not cure your bulimia.....your eating disorder will just manifest into something else unless you deal with why you do it in the first place. I'm sorry if this doesn't come across as supportive, but the people who helped me the most when I was in the midst of my ED were those that challenged my irrational thinking. Take care of yourself!!!
  4. Hi Suche, I'm 42 and had my surgery on 11/9. I have dealt with some nausea when I drink too much, too fast...esp things that are too sweet. Like others have said, my taste buds have changed drastically. I have a vanilla whey protein powder that I've been using for years and now I can hardly stand it. EVERYTHING is too sweet for me. I think we all wonder, at some point, if this is going to work. But I just have to remember that if I follow the guidelines, I'll eventually get where I want to be!!! You're in the right place for support....sorry, no one responded before.
  5. I'm 11 days post op and I was having a hard time with my protein. My new best friend is SF hot chocolate mixed with one scoop of unflavored protein powder. I mix it all up in my shaker and then heat it up in the microwave. I use a little extra water to cut down on the richness of it.

    I'm sleeved. :-)

Wow!...I can't believe you're online and posting same day!! I had my iPad with me and didn't even think about it until late the next evening....then again, I was super loaded and telling a friend that came to visit that we would go jogging in the morning!! LOL!! Glad you're doing so great....and it just gets better each day!
  7. My hernia was discovered during surgery and repaired at that time.
  8. Walk as much as you can!!...I didn't feel like walking but discovered that the more I walked, the better I felt and I truly believed I would not have been ready to go home had I not started walking.
  9. Welcome!! Sorry you had such a rough time in the hospital. I was lucky to be at a hospital with a bariatric program and all the nurses and CNA's were understanding. I was sleeved on the 9th and I also had a hiatal hernia repaired. I wish I could move to full liquids now...the Isopure is killing me and I can't move to full liquids until after my post-op appt on Friday. Anyway, welcome!!...there is a lot of great info and support here!!
  10. The one thing I took that made me feel comfy was my fleece blanket. I wish I had taken my own Kleenex and toilet paper...the "John Wayne" stuff the hospital had was harsh!! LOL!!!

    Got sleeved november 8th

I wad sleeved the 9th and had horrible nausea the second day from the dilauded. Once I switched to Tylenol 3, I started feeling better and I got to come home late yesterday afternoon. I'm not experiencing too much pain other that the incision where my drain was. I'm also having a difficult time getting comfortable enough to sleep any longer than 2 hours at a time. I absolutely HATE the Isopure but I'm choking it down and then sipping on warm broth (which is sooo good). I have noticed that the more I walk and move around, the better I feel!! So walk, walk walk!!! Hoping we all recover soon!!!
  12. I'm hanging with you!!! I'm 3 days post op and just got home last night. Temperature really makes a difference for me as well. I can't drink as much when things are cold and broth seems to be easiest for me. I just now ate a SF Popsicle and didn't seem to have a problem with it. I am worried about dehydration too so I'm trying whatever I can.
  13. Welcome and good luck on Monday!!! I'm right behind you as I'm scheduled for Wednesday Like you, I never had a weight issue until after having a child....that was almost 18 years ago! At 42 I'm so ready to get my life back!!! Lisa
  14. I am 16 days away and I feel the same way sometimes! I am excited but really anxious at the same time. But I've come too far to back out and at this point I just keep telling myself "feel the fear and do it anyway"!!! I would suggest not reading anything about other people's complications or how they felt right after surgery....my feeling is that stuff will only make me worry Hang in there....it won't be much longer and hopefully we'll both be on the other side!!!
  15. I have been using Jay Robb whey protein powders for years (even before I decided on WLS). Several flavors available: vanilla, choc, strawberry, pina colada, tropical dreamsicle and unflavored. I've not tried the pina colada or the unflavored but the others are all very good. What I like about them is the consistency and taste. They mix very well without a blender with either milk or water. They are 0 carb, 0 fat and 25 grams of protein. They are gluten free and made with stevia. It's not cheap stuff though....I pay 35 bucks for a 24 oz bag which is 23 servings but worth every penny to me.
  16. Hi Everyone! This is my first post here....on the day I was approved for my sleeve!!! I'm 42 and have been dealing with weight issues since my first and only pregnancy 18 years ago. I've run the gamut of eating disorders having first dealt with bulimia and then anorexia. Back then I was dealing with (or trying not to deal with) the death of my mom. I was only 25 and didn't really have any tools to deal with my life....which had changed so drastically. Fast forward to the present and I can honestly say that I would not be who I am today without all my struggles. Over the course of the past 18 years I've discovered who I am and have raised an amazing boy who is now a young man about to graduate from high school. Now, if only my body matched who I am on the inside!! LOL Growing up, I had always been super athletic. I played all kinds of sports and I attended college on a full ride scholarship for softball. I still consider myself an athlete even though no one else would think that by looking at me. At my consultation with my surgeon, she asked me what my goal weight was. I told her I didn't have one...the only goal I have is to complete and eventually compete in triathlons. Numbers aren't really important to me anymore. I don't care what my weight is, what size my clothes are or how high or low my BMI is. At 42 I just want to feel like I'm in the body I was born to be in and to do the things I love to do!! Thanks for reading......
  17. Congrats to all!! I was scheduled last week and my date is November 9th!! I have to attend a bariatric education class at the hospital in two weeks and my surgeon still wants me to lose 10 more lbs. by surgery date. No last Thanksgiving dinner (Last Supper) for me....but I'm okay with that!!!
  18. I am scheduled for surgery on Nov 9th and I'm not really worried about the surgery itself. I feel like I have spent years researching this subject and I've made the right decision for me with regard to the sleeve. My only real concern is going under general anesthesia. I have only been under twice in my life (at 16 and 19)....both were oral surgeries. However, both times I threw up while coming out of it and I had to be intubated. Has anyone else had this experience? Even though it was over 20 years ago, I remember it being horrible. Just wondering how common it is. I'll definitely talk to my surgeon about it when I meet with her two weeks prior.
  19. I recently had my body fat tested by a professional and I have 190 lbs of lean mass (bone, muscle, water, etc). Using the archaic BMI charts, I would need to LOSE MUSCLE in order to be in the NORMAL range!!! I think a lot of doctors just don't get it.
  20. Thanks guys!!! I feel better about it now!!
  21. Thanx!! I've put it on my list of questions to ask at my pre-op appt.
  22. Hope this helps!! "An FMLA eligible employee is an employee who has been employed by the employer for a least 12 months and worked at least 1,250 hours. The 12 months do not need to be consecutive. You are only an eligible employee if your employer employs 50 or more employees within 75 miles of the worksite"
  23. My surgeon asked me what my goal weight was and I told her I refuse to have one!!! I told her that I just wanted to be healthy and to feel comfortable in my body. I have spent too many years of my life allowing the number on the scale to define how I felt about myself. Now it's more about doing the things I want to do...and being around for my kids and my partner!!! But if I had to use numbers then I would definitely use body fat %, not BMI and not weight.
