I just have some questions
Forensikchic replied to turtlebutt825's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor prescibed me generic zofran for nausea and its great stuff! I can take it every 6 hours for nausea. I only take it in the mornings with my acid reducer though.. I dont seem to need it in the afternoons yet. It was a lifesaver for me. Ask your doctor for it. -
How big is a medicine cup and where do you get one? A pharmacy? I need help getting my fluids in too.

my story... my emotions
Forensikchic replied to iiPinkxLoveii's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I got quite emotional when I was at day 5 or so too. That little voice was telling me that I had really screwed up doing this to myself and it was never going to be the same. It was all negative. I cried about it. I was pretty depressed. Then, I was at week two and found I could add Protein shakes and I tried that and it was a little better. Week three added milk, cheese and yogurt. I was so happy to get to eat cheese! I could chew it! Before I knew it, I was on soft food. I cant hold very much, but it feels good to get to eat what my family is eating. I have one more week of soft and I got to regular food! It does get so much better than the first week! Hang in there! -
Words of Encouragement
Forensikchic replied to Suzannesh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really enjoyed the analogy of the landing on the staircase. I am only in week 5 since surgery and have had a kidney stone setback. I am taking it in stride so far and not obsessing on the weight I have lost or not lost. I know I have to get healthy kidneys first (still have a stent) and then I can concentrate on that. Right now I have to concentrate on getting my fluids in for my kidneys sake. Thats whats important right now. I appreciate the words of encouragement. They mean alot to people like me, who have had complications and roadblocks early in this journey. Tammi -

How much did you pay as a self-pay?
Forensikchic replied to FlyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I paid 14,200 for mine in San Antonio, where I live. I used my flexible benefits from work to cover part of it and I charged the rest on carecredit, interest fee for 18 months. So I have a payment for 1.5 years but its totally worth it to me... by the time I get to goal and have maintained for 6 months, I will have paid it off! My insurance only covered the sleeve if you had a bmi of 50 or greater and I didnt. -
Sleeved on Monday......surgery till day 3 report
Forensikchic replied to Tony666's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone in the uncommanded BM! It happened to me too. I was truly embarrassed. I had no warning whatsoever! I wish you a speedy recovery! -
Look what I stubbled across.

I liked the site.. it has a cool food log at the end. I think I might start using it. -
I was sleeved the same day as you too. I lost the Fluid they pumped in me in a week and was down 21 pounds counting the preop diet. then in week 3, the dreaded KIDNEY STONE happened. A week in the hospital so I skipped my pureed week. I was pumped full of fluids to try to get the kidney stone out and when I was discharged, after surgery on my kidney, I was back up over my highest weight! Talk about discouraging! So far this week I have lost most of the fluid weight again but I am not as small as I was at my two week checkup. I started out at 234 and 50% body fat. Two week checkup I was 216 and 48% body fat. Yesterday at the follow up visit, I was 217 but HOLY MOLY 41% body fat! I am loosing fat under this fluid. Anyways, my point is that even when the scale isnt showing it, we are loosing fat! It will catch up! Now for the eating part.... I started soft foods on Monday. I can barely hold 1/4 cup. I dont know how in the world people are eating that much and not puking. I am having a hard time getting my fluids in too. I had to up my meals to 4 1/4 cup Protein meals. I can tolerate everything I have eaten so far and its been great to eat again, but I am only getting about 300 calories a day. I wish I could eat as much as you are! Maybe I have a small sleeve or Its just swollen more. I have been through a lot in the last three weeks so I guess I just need time to heal. This just shows that everyone is different and it can be Water retention or your body not wanting to let go of the fluid just yet, etc. I think if we are patient, the weight will come off. Good luck and keep my posted!

I am four weeks out this week. I eat an egg in the morning soft scrambled. I eat chicken or tuna for lunch, just an ounce. I eat soft chicken thigh meat or fish at night. I am in the soft food stage. My doctor said yesterday that wasnt enough. I am now told to snack on Protein bars while at work and also to do 4 protein meals a day since I can only hold about a 1/4 cup at a time. I am very tired all the time. I am having a hard time getting my fluids in too. I just hope it gets better and I am able to hold a little more soon!

Sadly, it would have been lost on him it sounds like. I think he got the picture when he said he should be informed before commenting. Maybe that will be a lesson to him. Congratulations on your weight loss! -

Its funny to me how he said he didnt believe in that when he was staring at you and saying you looked great. Its not the tooth fairy! You are living proof that this surgery works as a great tool for people to use. When they invented the wheel, did someone say.. hey it works great but I dont believe in that and go on carrying everything on his back... just a stupid thought I had....lol. -
Sleevie Wonder does not like cream soups
Forensikchic replied to HDubSleevery's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started soft foods today, I am three weeks post op... starting on 4. I breezed through week three fulls because I was hospitalized with a kidney stone, extra surgery to fix that so I didnt feel like eating anything anyway! I have trouble with thick things like pudding and thicker Protein Shakes, etc. I tried soft dark meat chicken today and it went down a lot easier! I totally get it when the sleeve says hell no to some thick consistency things! I tried tuna salad today and I could only eat about an ounce of it. It didnt make me sick though... just full pretty quickly. I am waiting to get over this kidney thing and be back to my old self again too! Stay hydrated! -
I am also three weeks post op today! We are sleeve sisters! I was doing well until last week when I got a little dehydrated and had a kidney stone. Not fun... I was back in the hospital for a week, another surgery to place a stent, etc. I was pumped full of fluids and am still trying to pee that off! I dont know how my weight loss is going because of that but I think I should level out soon. I understand completely about the mental side of this. It has been the hardest thing for me. I find myself feeling sorry for myself because I cant eat like I used to... bums me out when my family can have all this food and I just have broth. I am just starting on soft food now and its getting better. I was not really prepared for the mental change it would take either. I think we will both be great and we will get through it!

When did you feel good post op
Forensikchic replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still on all liquids with the exception of yogurt and soft cheese. I havent eaten those today. I had a very small peice of cheese 3/4 ounce yesterday and it took me an hour to eat it.... that was at 6pm. I didnt have trouble with that. I am nauseated in the morning on an empty sleeve. I drink a little Water and then a few ounces of decaf coffee. Didnt help. I tried the decaf because its warm. I tried to drink my Protein shake and doesnt feel very good either. I think today is just an off day or something. I havent tried any solid food yet with the exception of a tablespoon of refired Beans (special circumstance and the litte peice of cheese. I think I may be a little dehydrated. -

I am on full liquids plus dairy, like cheese, skim milk, cottage cheese, greek yogurt. Thanks.. Tammi -
Protein and Purees
Forensikchic replied to Indymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in week three post op and I am still on full liquids plus cheese, greek yogurt, skim milk, cottage cheese. Next week I start on soft food and I am supposed to get 80g of protein!!!! I can barely eat a half ounce of cheese right now! I dont know how I will manage that. I guess I will have to drink Protein shakes too! -
Very easy, sedentary job
Forensikchic replied to ravenjeh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you will be fine too. I had surgery on a Monday, home on Wednesday and back to work on Monday. Worked 8 hours a day for the whole week. I have a desk job kinda only easier. It wasnt too bad. Just a little tired, so I sat a lot. Good Luck! -
had my surgery o wednesday
Forensikchic replied to emmas mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your surgery! I am sorry you are in pain. I didnt have a lot of pain after surgery. I was hospitalized for two days and on morphine pump for surgery day and the next. They took it out the second day and sent me home with lortab liquid and phenergan. I never took it. I was only sore, no real pain that required meds. It does get a lot easier to get up and down in the days to come.. did your dr give you pain meds? Tylenol easy tabs work well also. -
I had surgery the same day as you! I have not moved on the scale for a couple days either. I saw my dr and NUT today and she said that Protein was the key to it. I need to get as much protein in and that will help get the scale moving again. She also explained that our bodies are in shock and need time to adjust to each phase. Be patient! WE ARE GOING TO LOSE ALL THIS WEIGHT!

I was told today that if I can drink it through a straw I can have it, only dont use a straw... I dont think I could puree meat to that consistency. I am dying to have something besides Water and flavored water though.

How Many Weeks Before Soft Food Stage?
Forensikchic replied to Tarada9's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I just came from my two week follow up from surgery. My doctors orders are one week clear liquids, one week clear add protein shakes and the third week I can add cheese, yogurt, milk, cottage cheese plus full liquids... anything that I COULD drink through a straw, just dont use a straw (purees). Weeks 4 and 5 are soft foods. Then at about 6 weeks I can add raw veggies. Then after 8 weeks I can add nuts, seeds, shrimp and ham (not deli). I am so excited that I can start eating cheese and milk and yogurt! Wooohooo! -
I was on my preop for one week. I had protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and 3oz of meat and green veggies for dinner. I lost 9 pounds that week. I am 5'4" tall and my starting weight was 234. I was 225 day of surgery. Hope that helps!

just got sleeved 3 hours ago!
Forensikchic replied to Sassygirl06's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 8/8 about two weeks ago. I have been back at work all this week and doing okay. I am tired but its better every day. I dont really have any pain just a little tenderness at my incision sites... all 6 of them. I asked my dr. before surgery what size bougie he used and he doesnt use one! He uses the scope! So there is a light that shines in there and he can check for leaks from the inside when he is done. I was amazed at that. I didnt have to do the swallow test! I dont know if that means mine is really small or just the right size but I am going to trust my dr. who has done thousands of wls. I felt really good my first day and then I got heartburn really bad the second day. third day I felt hungover, then just tired for the rest of that week after getting home. I didnt take any pain meds because I wasnt in pain just sore and tired. I didnt like how the liquid lortab or the phenergan made me feel so I just took the occasional tylenol. I didnt need anything else. Good luck to you! I hope everything goes smoothly. Tammi
