    Just Had Surgery!

I gained all my preop loss plus some from IV fluids. It took a week to get that back off. For some reason, my body just sucked them up like a sponge! It will come back off, I promise. Its just fluid. You are doing fine. Keep on keeping on!

    Trying To Stay Calm.

I was a basket case the night before mine. It all went so well, I thought afterward, what were you so worried about, this is a peice of cake! I was worked up over nothing. I hardly had any pain, no gas, I was just tired for about a week. You got this girl! Its no big wow. You will back to normal in no time! Get some rest!
  3. I saw that in the HEB store here in San Antonio but I didnt check the label.. Wow. I will definately give it a try!

This Was A New One For Me!

I have noticed that my eyesight has changed too! Its my right eye only. I had lasik in my left eye and its still perfect but I have noticed that my right eye is blurry sometimes, especially while driving at night. That explains it! Thanks!
  5. I will try this! Thanks!
  6. I went back after a week but I have a desk job too. I was VERY tired but I did okay. I could sip all day at my desk. I was extremely tired for at least two weeks and then it got better. I would suggest AT LEAST 2 or 3 weeks off so you can recover enough to do your job. After three weeks you are on full liquids/mushies and you will have more energy then.

    From the album: Tammi After

This was March 4th 2011... seven months post op.
  9. By this winter, it will be too big! lol.. Better wear it while you can!
  10. We lucked up on this store. It only has clearance items that didnt sell at the normal goodwill. The clothes are normally a whopping .49 cents, except jeans are 2.99. On saturday, however, all clothing is .25 cents, including jeans. We find Abercrombie, Holister, American Eagle, Talbots, Liz Clabourne, Ann Taylor, you name it, I have it. Some things still have tags on them. I even bought some nice suit pants and blouses for court there. Now, dont get me wrong, you have to go through all the old lady and outdated stuff to find the good stuff. Its work, but its worth it. I have not been disappointed yet. And I write off a lot of stuff on my taxes with all the donating I do.
  11. I was a 34 C in college and I weighed about 130 then. Size 6. I am 160 today and I wear a 36 C or D. I think I will be a 34 C or D when I get to goal. I bought some cute suits already but I cant fit them comfortably yet. I have too much boob hangingn out the sides and the bottoms are a little snug for my tastes. I buy clothes at the thrift store in all sizes. I keep them in rubber maids in my closet labeled by size. I decided not to doubt myself anymore. I will lose all the weight so I am normal sized again. I even bought a few size 4's just for in case. I started this when I got down to a 16. I kept the 16's and 14's hanging and packed the 12's, 10's, 8's and 6's in the rubber maid containers. I have given all the 16's and 14's back to goodwill and now I am throwing out most of my 12's. I unpacked all the tens a few weeks ago and now I wear almost exclusively these. I am getting ready to donate all my 12's and size large shirts. I am loving this! When I first starting doing this, I was still doubtful that I would achieve my dream of being a size 6 again but I forged ahead anyway! My hubby and I found a Goodwill clearance store and on Saturdays, all their clothes are a quarter! You have to search through table of unfolded clothes but you can find treasures in there and I have been able to find tons of great clothes in all the sizes. I just buy them, wash them, sort them and file them away for later. It has really worked for me. I spend about 15 dollars each time I go and get over 50 items at a time. I have a crapload of clothes! I just donate them back when I get past that size, etc. I am lucky to have found such a place! also, LIke, missdiva, I picked out a size 10 pair of shorts three months ago. I tried them on and I couldnt get them up my thighs. I kept trying them on every month until I wore them comfortably yesterday! It was so great! I just picked a pair of 8's to do this with and just see how far I can get them up until I finally wear them! You should try this, its awesome!

    What To Do?

Personally, I didnt choose bypass because I didnt want the malabsorption part, the dumping (vomiting or Sh^ting over the moon) when you eat certain things with too much sugar in them. That did not sound like a very pleasant existence. I chose the sleeve for me because it would limit the amount of food I could eat, not what I could eat. Granted, we have to eat protein first but that doesnt feel like a diet to me. I always want the meat over the veggies anyway. It fit my lifestyle better. If I want a sweet treat, one or two bites and Im great! I dont feel the need to eat the whole cake or whatever like before. With the bypass, that bite or two of cake or pie will send you straight to the john for Montezuma's revenge. I have freinds who have had the bypass and thats what they tell me. So, its a personal decision but these were my reasons for choosing the sleeve and I am 7 months post op and doing wonderfully. I love my sleeve!!!!!
  13. My surgeon said dont count calories, just worry about the Protein and dont eat too many carbs. They follow the 70/70 rule. 70 of protein and not more than 70 of carbs. I ate about 400-600 calories for the first 5 months and then it just naturally went up to 800 as I could eat a little more at 6-7 months. I would not force food to get a calorie count! My dr. said eat protein first and stop when you are full. If its 600 calories a day, so what! We are not here to count every damned thing. We did this so we can eat good healthy food and STOP when we are full. I am afraid if you are comfortable with the 600 calories and full, if you try to stuff in the other calories, you will do damage to your sleeve, stretch it some or God knows what. If you are eating protein first, you are doing the right thing. Just stop eating when you are full and dont worry about the calories. The weight will come off. Some people have a low metabolism, like me, and if I crammed in 1000-1300 calories a day, I would not lose weight. I would literally have to eat snickers as Snacks to get that many anyway. If you are eating healthy food, its hard to eat that much that early out. I would not push it. It will increase slowly in time and by the time you are a year out, you will be able to eat more. This is your golden weight loss time and I would embrace my restriction while I have it this good. I know there are sleevers out there that can and do eat that many calories a day and that works for them but my sleeve is small and he said "hell no, we wont go" to more than about 800 calories a day at 7 months out. Im sure I could eat 1300 calories of junk slider food, chips and candy bars but thats not why we got sleeved, right? Just my 2 cents.

  19. I have struggled with my weight for over 20 years, yoyoing away. I heard about this surgery in April of 2011 at a seminar. I found out my insurance didnt cover it so I tried to put it out of my mind and keep trying on my own. Then, in July, my husband got a new job with new insurance. I started looking to see if they covered it. They did and I scheduled to attend a seminar with a different surgeon the next day (a saturday). They talked about all the different wls options and I knew then and there the sleeve was definately for me. I found out there that Humana, my new insurance, doesnt cover the sleeve unless your bmi is over 50. I was devastated until a nice guy who was there starting talking to my hubby. He said listen, forget the insurance, just self pay. they have financing with no interest for 18 months. Thats what I did. We talked about it and decided we could do it. I scheduled an appointment with the surgeon there for Monday, two days later. I went to see him and we talked for an hour. He said I was a perfect candidate and he thought I was ready. I had to have a psych eval but everything else was a go. I already see a therapist and she wrote a letter for me that week. My surgery was scheduled for the following MOnday!!! I had seven days until my date and so my preop liquid diet started that day. There was no time to think about it. From Seminar to surgery was 9 days. I had my EKG and bloodwork done during that 7 days and I reported for surgery at 6am Monday, aug 8, 2011. That was seven months and 73 pounds ago. I had 100 pounds to lose. I was 234 and I am 5'4". I was wearing a size 18-20, mostly 20's and 1x tops. I am now wearing mostly 10's some 12's and medium tops. I dont regret it at all. I am glad it went fast so I didnt have time to dwell on it. I had no complications with the surgery, recovery went smooth. I did have a kidney stone a few weeks later but it wasnt related to the sleeve. I have a long family history of them and I was a little dehydrated after the surgery so it happened. I am just telling you that I think I am the fastest person to ever get sleeved from seminar to surgery. Its the best decision I ever made. I was emotional the night before with the usual anxiety but I knew I needed to do this for me. I knew I would love being able to eat my favorite things and this time be able to control how much of those things I ate. Now, I just eat a few bites and I am so full and satisfied. You will love your sleeve and you will be happy you didnt have to wait forever to get it. Embrace your good luck! You will do great!

    March 10Th Check In

Hey guys.. I often forget about this thread! I am sorry. Today I weighed in at 161! Yay! I have been stairstepping like we all have. I am down 73 pounds as of now. I lost about two pounds this week. I still weigh everyday and If I am down, I will log in in my ticker. I may stay the same for days or weeks and it wont change and then bam, I lose for a few days in a row and then stay the same again for weeks. My surgeon said that was how it was supposed to be. I am happy as long as I continue to see small drops. I am really shooting for reaching my ultimate goal by my one year surgiversary. good luck to everyone and I will try to remember this thread next week! keep on keeping on!

    Question For Veterans :)

I am 7 months out and I cant eat as much at the other people have said. For breakfast I usually eat 4 cracker cut peices of cheese with two ritz crackers or the crackers with 1 tbsp of Peanut Butter. I cant hold more than that. I cannot eat 4 oz of yogurt.. I can eat almost all of it but if i try to force the rest it hurts my tummy. For lunch I can eat 2 turkey meatballs or 2 oz of chicken or somthing like that. I can eat 3 or 4 shrimp if they are small, not salad type small but not large either. I cant hold the Protein plus a carb. There is just no way. For dinner I can hold a few ounces of steak, not more than two and a bite or two of green Beans or something like that. If I concentrate on eating very slowly, like while I am doing college homework, i can eat more without getting that stuffed feeling. I ate 3 oz of chicken fajita meat the other night but it took me an hour! I usually get between 600 and 800 calories a day. I try for 70 grams of protein and not more than 70 of carbs a day. They call it the 70/70 rule. I dont always get that. I have had to subsititute a Protein Drink in the morning to reach these goals. I mix unflavored with one cup of fresh oj. It works well for me even though its a little high in carbs. I do it on the way to work and then I eat my cheese or peanut butter crackers at my desk around 9. I walk at lunch so I need some carbs to burn off. I hope this helps...

    February 25 Check In

You are doing better than me! We started off with similar stats I think. I only did a one week preop and lost 9 pounds so my overall is 71 pounds and my since surgery is 62 pounds. I still think I am doing okay with losing 6 pounds a month. Thats my average in the last 2 months. I also lost about 6 pounds a month on weight watchers. I think a slow loss is better than no loss and my Dr. says I am way ahead of the curve. I am only 28 pounds from goal. Keep your chin up! I think its way easier than weight watchers ever was!

    March 3 Check In

No loss for me this week either but today is my 7th month surgiversary! I have lost a total of 71 pounds. I started at 234 and now weigh 163. I have gone from a size 20 down to a 10. I lost 6 pounds this past month. I lost 6 pounds last month too so it looks like thats the rate I am losing at right now. What about the rest of the ALLSTARS?
