I checked into it and they are soy protein. I know WLS patients are supposed to stick to whey protein. Since my surgery I have become lactose intolerant. I have issues with whey and how I digest it, so the soy is a better choice for me personally. I am mixing them with Lactaid milk to get a bit of a protein boost. Almond milk tastes pretty yucky to me after surgery (and I LOVED it before) so that isn't much of an option for me. I do one shake in the morning with instant coffee and milk and I do one with fruit or cocoa powder and milk as a dessert before I go to bed. Thanks for your comments!

Lactose Free Protein Drinks?
HDubSleevery replied to DisappearingDivis's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I like the Jay Robb protein drinks. I don't like the egg white protein but the whey protein is pretty good. Now if I could find a local place that stocks it! -
I love to cook in the crock pot and over the past year I have fallen in love with skinless, boneless chicken thighs. They stay super moist in the crockpot and the flavor is great. (Plus they are cheaper than the breasts) However, I never thought about which was better for me. With the small amounts we are eating, is there a nutritional preference between chicken breasts or chicken thighs? Thanks! HDub

Did your tastes change after surgery?
HDubSleevery replied to suez383's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I taste chemicals in everything artificial. I can't drink my favorite frappe because it tastes like chemicals. I have found that I eat a lot of unprocessed foods because they just taste better. -
I am about 6 weeks out and I tried making pizza. I used a Flatout tortilla, pizza sauce, mozzarrella cheese, and pepperoni. I had 4 small bites and my sleeve fought me HARD. I think it was the tortilla because I have had all the other things without issue before. Anyone else have this kind of reaction? Thanks!

I've tried a few different brands and I seem to like the Celebrate vitamins the best. I went to their website and got a sample pack. I like their chewable iron the best of all that I have tried. It doesn't have that yucky metallic taste afterwards.

Sometimes I am not all that bright
HDubSleevery posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I over ate for the first time today. It's been over a month since I did something like this, so I am impressed that I could wait this long. I used to be a binge eater. Tonight, the baby and I made pizzas with tortillas, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. I cut mine into 1/8ths and attempted to eat 3 slices. Halfway through the second I felt a pain in my chest. It went away after a minute so "Bingerella" here decided to keep going. OMG! I will try my best to NEVER do that again. Two more bites and I had a constant painful lump in my chest. I wanted to throw up or beat on my chest like a crazy person. The last bite I spit out on my plate because I couldn't bear the thought of swallowing it. So for those who were concerned that they may binge again with the sleeve, let me tell you that the physical deterrent is enough for me! -

Yippee! I am so glad it worked! -
Does anyone have a vitamix blender? They are having a sale on them on QVC today and it seems like it would be great for post-WLS. I figured I would ask if anyone has ever used it?

My incision above my belly button (largest cut) has been slow to heal. Most of it was healed except for a little spot on the end that was constantly scabbed over. Today I ran my hand over the scab and it lifted off but was still connected to something. I pulled it and I'll be darned if it wasn't at least 5-6 mms of thread in a loop! I pulled it tight and cut it off. It stings a bit but it already looks better. While it is kinda gross to have my body spitting out stitches, it tells me that I am healing and that is a GOOD thing! Anyone else have mystery stitches?

where do you fit your protein in? how do you get calories?
HDubSleevery replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in Food and Nutrition
Someone recommended the coffee mix and I have to say it is the only thing that I can tolerate. I loved Starbucks preWLS. I am able to do the nectar cappuchino flavor with Lactaide milk and SF syrup or I can do decaf coffee with the Atkins vanilla shakes and whatever flavor I want. The Atkins straight out of the box are kinda gross to me, but mixed with coffee they are pretty good. I hope you find something that sits well! -
I spit my first stitch!
HDubSleevery replied to HDubSleevery's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This morning everything is all closed up! I guess the stitch needed to come out so everything could heal up. YAY! -
In my former non-sleeved life, I used to love to get these decadent quiches from a bakery down the street from my office. My all-time favorite was caramelized onions and bacon. Mmmmm. After reading the Eggface blog and doing some Googling I made my own version. If you are interested, here you go... 4 tbsp Roasted Garlic & Onion jam (found at Fresh Market in a jar) 3/4 c. freshly grated smoked swiss cheese (found at Fresh market as well) 4 slices turkey bacon 4 eggs 1/2 c. fat free half and half black pepper - 4 twists of the grinder or to taste Non-stick cooking spray Preheat oven to 350 degrees Cook the turkey (or regular) bacon in the microwave until crispy. Crumble bacon into mixing bowl (I used my bullet to make crumbles) Add all ingredients to the mixing bowl Stir until the jam is dissolved and everything is blended Spray the mini muffin pan with cooking spray Spoon the mixture into the cups Bake for 30 minutes Remove from oven and let cool Once cool, pop out of tins and enjoy! I think I will do a ham and cheese version later this weekend! **I forgot to mention this makes 18 mini muffins**

I tried kickboxing and karate seperately. I was good at kickboxing but sucked at karate. I don't have the coordination apparently. I am going to google Kenpo!

That is awesome!!!! My NSV for today is that I took the baby to the Fall Festival. It was in a big field and I walked around for 45 minutes going to all the booths and seeing the games. When we got home she wanted to go for a walk. I was talking on the phone and didn't realize that we did 3 laps around the neighborhood! She was in her little car and I was walking. Just a month ago, I couldn't make it around the neighborhood once without my back and knees screaming at me. YAY for NSVs!!! It makes the stall a bit more bearable.

Wondering if something is "wrong"
HDubSleevery replied to Shalon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The noises could be gas. I never think I have gas until I eat something and feel a burp from the displaced air. It's weird. I find that air in my tummy makes a LOT of noises! Good luck. -
I heard on the radio this week that the recent flooding impacted the pumpkin crops. A few years ago, there were problems with the pumpkin crops and you couldn't find canned pumpkin anywhere! Earlier this year Kroger had their cans on sale so I bought 20 cans. I thought I would never use that much, but I only have 7 cans left. LOL! I have a bit of an addiction to pumpkin spice muffins. You can go to sparkrecipes.com and type in pumpkin and you will get all sorts of interesting ideas. Good luck!

I have been stalled for 9 days, so I haven't been expecting much. This morning I tried to get my jeans on and they were super tight. I got them zipped but I looked like a blue sausage from the waist down. I looked in the closet and I had picked up the wrong pair! The ones I was wearing were the size FOURTEEN version and not the 18/20s that I have been wearing. I tried on some of my heels that I used to wear and my feet slipped into them with no pinching! My shoes didn't look like I was baking bread...THEY FIT!! SAY WHAT?! The jeans were too uncomfortable to wear very long but they were on long enough to do the happy dance. I did wear the heels to work though.

Buyers remorse ... not losing weight and kind of sad ...
HDubSleevery replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dramagirl28 you have such a great attitude about stalls. I am in one now too and I try to stay positive but sometimes I slip. I am going to come back to this post every week that I don't lose to remind myself to keep being positive. Thank you! -
So, three weeks and a day now

I have been playing with the same pound for the past 10 days. I am doing what I am supposed to do so it will eventually have to come off. At least that is what I am telling myself. -
Is there a difference between Nexxium and Prilosec? Are they both Omeprazole with a pretty package? Just wondering. Thanks! HDub

I was lazy too. I'm not tracking calories yet. I am trying to focus on Protein rich foods (It's only day 2 for me on solid food - LOL!) I find that I do better when I focus on one thing at a time with the WLS. You could certainly caramelize your own onions. The jam gives it that sweet flavor too. I wanted something fast (in case I didn't like it) and the onions would have taken a while. Plus the jam blended easily into the mix so I went with it. Oh and it said "roasted garlic" so I was drooling in the store. I made the baby blueberry mini-muffins this morning and I put my quiches in the oven for a couple of minutes with her muffins. They heated up great! I heated 2 but could only eat 1 before my sleeve was full.
