Surgery tues! Anyone have complications?
jillw8 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery is on Tuesday! I'm so excited. As it draws closer I'm just curious how common complications really are. Anyone on here have any problems at any time after the surgery? I know all of the possible issues, I am a nurse. I am young (27) so I know I am not a high risk but just wondering about the "what Ifs." Not scAred just curious! Thanks! -

Thanks, ladies! BlessednGA....same day! I will let you know how it goes and you do the same! Nurselisa22....good for you! I can't believe you went back so soon! I have 6 weeks of leave time....not sure how much I will take off! What kind of nursing do you do? I work in a hospital on a step-down unit with a cardiac focus. I love being a Nurse and just finished NP classes ad graduate in December! Good luck with the rest of your journey! -
Any binge eaters who had sleeve?
jillw8 replied to jillw8's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I love the the Botox reference! My friend (who had a boob job) was being very negative. I asked her how it was any different from her breast augmentation--she did it for appearance and self-confidence, only differnece is- my surgery does not require a revision every 10-15 years (which they do!!!) It just makes me so frustrated to think of all that our society accepts but when it comes to obesity, we are shunned and laughed at. Yet ,when we do something about it we are looked at and judged for it. Makes no sense!!! Thanks for the Botox reference!!!! -

Thanks! I am glad you are calling it a tool. So many people look at me like I am cheating to lose weight with surgery. However, when I explain it i use the word tool and make sure people realize the surgery is what I put into it. You can still fail with WLS. I have been preparing myself mentally for a while. I am ready to use this TOOL to meet my goals. -
Wow, I have to say your story is similar to mine (I am also 27, married at 23, and your emotions)....except I'm a woman. I was actually overweight as a child, then lost weightt in high school and became popular....which really messed with my psyche and self confidence...so when I gained over a 120lbs after high school, I felt I was worthless. Started missing functions because of embarrassment (even my five year reunion.) I am having my surgery on this Tuesday and am excited! I think I will start talking to a counselor right away to help me cope. Good luck!!

My surgery is next Tuesday and I couldn't be more excited!! I have thought about a surgery for years and I feel like the sleeve is the perfect choice for me. I am prepared to dedicate my life to being healthy. CAN NOT WAIT!!!!

I am so excited!! the surgery was approved on Friday and found out yesterday that it will be on the 30th, less than 2 weeks away!! From first appointment to surgery is a few days of a month. I am nervous but I am ready to start this journey! I have alreay started keeping a journal and included the feelings that I despise right now that will keep me motivated and on track.

Pre-op Upper GI- Shows hiatal hernia and Schatzki Ring!
jillw8 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, I am in the final stages of getting everything ready for my VSG. I had submitted everything and found out I have a hiatal hernia and a Schatzki ring (which is a birth defect that is a tight band of muscle around the esophagus making it narrowed; which can cause difficulty and painful swallowing- which I have). I am curious if anyone else had similar results and what effect it had on your surgery and the time process. My friend had it done and had a hernia that the surgeon fixed at the same time. I am just waiting now...... -
Hello! I am rapidly approaching the date of surgery. I do not have an official date but have 2 more things left to do before it is set. I was just wanting to hear some opinoins on the sleeve and see if there were some good success stories. The doctor offered me a bypass or a sleeve and I went with the sleeve for several reasons. Several of my family and friends are iffy about the situation and I would like to hear some good things!! Thanks!
