    Carbs?

I was also confused about this. I have asked my doc about it multiple times and he always says they don't have carb, calorie restrictions. He says if you follow the rules of bariatric surgery you shouldn't have to. So that's what I have done and lost over 50 lbs in 3 months! Good luck! (null)
  2. I had my 12 week follow up with my gastric sleeve surgeon and I have lost 53lbs! She said everything looks great and I am above the norm for weight loss! Feeling amazing!!!!! (null)

Being Sleeved In The Real World

This is a good question. At thanksgiving, I was really worried. However, I woke up the day of festivities and simply told myself I was going to follow my eating rules: Protein first, then veggies, then starch. I stuck to that. Then, instead of getting potatoes or stuffing, I chose to use a couple bites of dessert as my starch. I was satisfied and not deprived. So when the Christmas festivities start I will be waking up and telling myself....I following the rules today. Good luck to you! You can do it!!! (null)
  4. My surgeon doesn't have a recommendation for how many calories or carbs to take in. I eat sugar free and stay under 1000 calories per day but I am curious what I should be shooting for. Have any of you been told how much to take in to achieve the greatest weight loss? For the first time since surgery 3 months ago, I stayed the same in weight. I'm wondering if I need to count closer. I have lost 52lbs so far but don't want to slow down yet! Any advice is appreciated!
  5. I weighed in for week 12 and didn't lose any weight. Didn't do anything different. Feel okay just disheartening I guess. Hope it doesn't last long.
  6. I have lost 52lbs so far though! Plus!
  7. I am almost 3 months out and to the point there are no foods off limits. I struggle with trying to figure out what to eat at each meal. My doc says protein first (1/2 plate), then veggies (1/4 plate), then carb (1/4 plate). Doing that is okay but I was just wanting some meal ideas to mix it up. Kind of getting in a rut with eating and don't want to stall. Thanks!
  8. I was sleeved 3 months ago and I have to say the mental aspect of this journey has been easier than I expected. I was worried that I would be an emotional wreck and not be able to follow the rules. However, the sleeve does something amazing. It takes away those strong hunger pains for junk and replaces it for (what I call normal) hunger signals. I no longer crave carbs and junk. I eat healthy and really only want healthy things. I know that will probably change in the near future but I am preparing myself for it and taking it one day at a time.

    Intake

I was the same way. I felt I was sipping too much but in reality it was okay. As long as you aren't getting pain you should be okay. I think getting in the habit of sipping all day is a good thing for after you are back on solid food. If it's habit you will meet your water goals every day.

    Gas & More Gas.....

I remember feeling my stomach was going to be inflated with gas forever. THe shoulder pain and gas bubbles were the worst!! It will get better! Mine went away right after 7 days post-op. Hang in there it gets better and you will love your sleeve!!
  11. In the beginning, I felt like I was taking in too much but in reality, the liquid phase is very different from the next phases in your diet. As long as you are not getting pain or vomiting you are doing what you should be. It wasn't until I had real food that I felt I was eating the recommended amount. Congrats on your journey!!
  12. I am 8 weeks out and have increases heart rate after every meal. I don't eat sweets or unhealthy foods. I thought it might be dumping but I'm not eating anything that should case it. Anyone else have this?
  13. Not uncommon. I had the same thing. Some of it can be anesthesia. It takes our bodies weeks to get rid of all of its effects. Plus, a drastic change in calorie intake can fluctuate blood sugars, not dangerous but annoying.
  14. 1) I have no regrets! Down 40lbs so far!! 2) Learning what our bodies and sleeves our capable of is a learning process. Taking the time to listen to them is important. Overeating by one bite is painful! 3) I do not miss soda...I thought I would. 4) Evreryone has their own journey. No one is the same and that is a good thing. 5) life changes after the sleeve. The way you think, feel, eat, everything. But it is all for the good. 6) I sometimes miss being able to eat a normal amount and miss drinking alcohol. Still worth it though. I LOVE MY SLEEVE!
  15. I am 7 weeks post op and still getting used to my sleeve. I take my time eating but sometimes it seems like I listen to my cues and take another bite them wait to see what it feels like. Then I feel nauseous. Is that what 1 bite too many feels like for anyone else? Any suggestions on how to really know what I need?

    Do the Staples scar over?

My surgeon explained it to me. He said the staples stay in place by our stomachs basically growing and adhering to them, forming a sealed edge. Our body heals around them and seals it shut.
  17. Holy cow they are amazing!!! 175 calories, 16g of protein, 3G of net carbs. They are delicious, small and tolerable. I would highly recommend. They have 3 flavors. I found them at Walgreens.

    Bloody Bowel Movements Post-op??

I know the diarrhea sucks in the beginning. Bright red blood means the source is near the end of the digestive tract. If it were dark, it would mean you were bleeding somewhere higher up, intestines, stomach, etc. Keep an eye on it. Maybe your irritated from the change in BMs. Regardless, I hope it gets better and you heal well!
  19. I think we are going through the exact same thing! I can't tolerate any shakes. I have tried so many. Seems like I like them for a day or two and then it's back to nausea. I can't wait until I can do bars. Good luck!
  20. I sometimes wondered (or forgot) this as well. Thanks. Thank goodness I can now get it from my meat and cheese!
  21. Hello! I am also 7 weeks today! It sounds like you are doing awesome. The one thing that my surgeon told me was each journey is our own. It's hard not to worry. I'm not allowed to eat whole cuts of meat yet. I have a hard time getting veggies too since I eat my protein first. I'm down 37lbs and feel pretty great. How are you doing with protein? I struggle a lot with it.
  22. I will have to listen closer I guess! Im especially nervous about going back to work tomorrow. I am a nurse on a busy floor and sometimes have limited time for lunch. I will do my best!
  23. I just posted a question about that. I think it's in the page before. I'm not sure about the picture thing!
