What Should I Ask My Dr?
welittle1 replied to Gene1970's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did they send you the emmi support video to watch? It will tell you about the different surgeries and let you post questions that you would like to ask the doctor that why he can answer them when you go to see him. I ask things like..........How many surgeries he had done, what were the most complications people had that he had done the surgeries on. I ask about the current meds I was taking, does he use a drain...how long I would be in the hospital...about the pre op and post op diets. I believe there is a link on here that will give you questions also that you might not have thought of. Good luck, I am self pay also hoping to have my surgery in October. Keep us posted please. -

My husbands name is Scott also and he is an amazing cook as well and alwasy seems to know what I want and need. We seem to be able to feel that about each other. Always have. Sometimes we can even finish each others sentences. I am so glad and fortunate to have him. He is my rock!!! Got to love them!!! By the way, I love reading your post! -

Just Saying Hi - Surgery Date 5/14
welittle1 replied to MyGastricSleeveLife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hope your journey so smooth with no complications. I'm in the process of starting mine. I'm self pay since my insurance doesn't cover it. I'm hoping to get my sleeve in October. Seems so far away. I have been over weight for so long and have type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure as well as severe heel pain. I'm a full time cook so not looking forward to my two week pre op but ready to get the ball rolling. I can't wait to feel healthier and be able to do things that I haven't been able to do for a long time. I have the same thoughts about failure that you mention but I think we all go through that. Please keep us posted as you continue on your way. -

Working While On The Liquid Diet Before Surgery
welittle1 replied to nancylovescats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a cook for a living so I've been trying to start now to prepare myself for the two week pre op liquid diet. I don't have a surgery date yet but soon I hope. It's going to be hard to do the pre op diet at work but I look at it as I have to do this for me! Good luck to you. -
3 Days Post Op- Can't Believe How Good I Already Feel
welittle1 replied to randalljohn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your progress so far. I hope that I will feel as good when I have my surgery! I just got back from vacation so if I have missed any ones post, I'm sorry. I saw a few but when I went to respond they were gone. -
Went to my information seminar today and found out that BC/BS of Kansas does not cover any kind of weight loss surgery what so ever. It's going to take me a long time to save up that kind of money.

Asking For A Friend Who Is Self-Pay.....cost And Recommendations?
welittle1 replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn'tsheclever...was it at the Tallgrass Center? That is where I'm going through..Dr. Hamilton but it's being performed at St. Francis hospital. He said since I'm only 5' that I'm a lot shorter then most and don't have as much room in there to move about so they do it at the hospital in case of emergencies. Who was your Dr.? -

Asking For A Friend Who Is Self-Pay.....cost And Recommendations?
welittle1 replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having mine done in Kansas and it's going to be $8100 plus a few extras...so I'm guess in the end will be around $1200. But so worth it. -
Prayers coming your way...you will do great..looking forward to the start of my journey...please keep us posted on how you are doing!

I'm posting on the post op board because I'm wondering if anyone that has had this surgery was told what I was yesterday at my consult with the surgeon. I told him that the main reason I want this surgery is because of my type 2 diabetes and he said that he would suggest the Roux-en-Y for the best results. I have read on here of peoples success stories with their diabetes with the sleeve and with that information and the fact that the sleeve is less invasive then the Roux-en-Y, I would prefer the sleeve and not to mention that it's cheaper. I want to do the right thing. I was just wondering if any of you had to make this choice and what your thoughts were on it. Thanks everyone in advance. My insurance does not cover any of the surgeries so I am on my own as far as payment.
-
Thanks Liberated....just a waiting game now...can't wait to get started.
-
Well I believe it's going to be the sleeve. It's less invasive and I think I can manage the cost of it over the other. Will probably shoot for October because I have to wait till my husbands busy season is over. Can't wait to get this journey started! Thanks again everyone for your input. I find this board very informative and useful and full of caring people.

Thank you everyone for your responses....I will definitely check out those links.

welittle1 replied to brandymarie81's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That's great!!! It always feels good to get a compliment, especially when you have worked so hard for it. -
Well I have my consultation with the surgeon on April 5th...nervous and excited...don't know how I'm ever going to be able to afford the cost since my insurance BC/BS of Kansas won't cover it. Guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it. Wish me luck everyone!
-
Thanks Liberated,,,,I will do that.

Thank you Courtney!
